I'm unashamed that I have re-watched several of Martina's vids over this past weekend as I was recovering from the stomach flu - made a shitty situation a lot less worse (but then I realised I couldn't eat any of the food Martina was eating for a good while until my tummy recovers welp)

      My memory of Tokyo pizza is that it was ridiculously expensive and that fish and squid are much more normal common than the toppings Americans are used to.
      I loved every single moment living around Japan.
      I thought this was going to be the Royal restaurant, it was in Okinawa though, and the best curry and gyoza, the best fried rice, anywhere across the Asian islands.
      I had never seen this many American style dishes in a Tokyo restaurant but it’s been decades.

    • @NinjaDimes
      @NinjaDimes 2 місяці тому +1

      @@kelleywyskiel8513 You're wrong about the Tokyo Pizza scene. Maybe Dominos Japan and that kind of ilk are expensive and have a lot of weird toppings, but Japan actually has hundreds of Italian style Pizza places, you can find them almost everywhere. They are legit places-- a lot of the chefs trained in Naples, and some of them are as good as places you find in Italy, and are DOC certified. For example: Salvatore Cuomo, Da Michele, Pizzeria Ciro, Da Isa, Frey’s Famous Pizzeria, Savoy Pizza, Pizza Studio Tamaki, Pizza Marumo, Seirinkan Pizza... there's even a fried Pizza place called NAPD by Dicoprio (タリアンバル NAPD ナップデ) by a Japanese guy that is famous in Italy for speaking Neapolitan dialect. These are all Neopolitan style pizza places in Tokyo that are extremely high rated. No squid in sight. And there are probably dozens more, I didn't bookmark them all because there are too many.

    I effing love Royal Host!! I first went to RH in Japan a few years ago and got their Hamburg steak and I LOVED it. (It was a set and came with the onion soup as a starter and it was so good too). Since then every time I go to asia (Korea, Taiwan, etc) I look if they have Royal Host somewhere and eat there at least once (always go for the Hamburg steak lol). I don't even like hamburger patties or meatloaf style stuff much but this made me a convert. Love Royal Host! Unfortunately I think the Korea ones are gone now but there were still plenty in Taiwan. I love them. I'm going to Japan soon and I can't wait to have it again.

    Very nice clip! I love Royal Host and it is also a bit patriotic since we lived in Nakasu, Fukuoka for years. You are right, a hamburger in these places is not like an American hamburger. Japanese say hambagu or even hambraga, it is soft, often mix between beef and pork with egg and breadcrumbs and comes with a sauce. In England and Sweden it is called a pan steak. It is very good. I also like the tonkatsu in Royal Host. The onion soup is also great as you say. Arigato!

    This is a great suggestion for my family trip with my kiddos! Thank you! I was telling my husband that japan doesn't scam you, what it looks like on the menu is what it looks like in real life!

      Yeah, Japan is not a scammy place. Even the taxis are honest. And if you drop a wallet, people run to give it back. They are in their own little bubble, which is why many Japanese people who go to Europe for vacation often get pickpocketed and have their phones stolen super easily! They are too innocent 😂

    Hi Martina! Great video!! This had the exact charm that the old FAPFAPs had it was such a delight, I know this video will be a comfort video for years to come. I'm going to Japan in October for two weeks for my honeymoon and my to-be-husband and I are at a total loss on what to do - we want to try ryokans with the tubs in the room (tattoos), I'd love a guide of relaxing things to do in Tokyo, Kawaguchiko, and Kyoto!

      oh, a bit late reply I guess. Just wanted to say about ryokans and bath houses, do not worry so much about tattoos. I have lived in Japan for years and have many tats, never had any trouble going to public onsens or baths. People in Japan are mainly worried about yakuzas and no one think a gaijin is a yakuza really. If one is respectful, polite and calm no problem. I hope you had a great time.

    I love going to local diners while on road trips! The Royal Host looks better than any US diner chain I've been too imo. There's a chain of gas stations in the Mid-Atlantic called Royal Farms, which some people call RoFo (they have great, extra salty, but great fried chicken).
