      Scotty. I have an 01 regal with 181k. I have a weird knock and some dippy mechanic messed with the supercharger. I have new brakes, suspension and other window parts like regulators. Always had a good oil change and mechanics say is great car. So question is should i dump more money in it or let it die?

      @@j.pershing2197 hey j. I've been a mechanic myself 4 over 20 years even worked at GM for 5 when these cars were under Warranty new. I've owned a grand prix gtp which has the same motor and drove that to a lil over 300k. So I would definitely say as long as the transmission is still good and strong keep fixing it and driving it. They're fun cars if u want 2 play a lil and still get decent mileage.. if the supercharger is gettin weak u can get them rebuilt cheap enough if I remember correctly its a couple bearings 3 or 4 seals and a gasket. U really don't need 2 b a rocket scientist to rebuild 1. I had even taught a friend of mine on a Saturday while we drank some tequila 🤪 how 2 do his. Hope this helps and for God's sake and ur own safety keep ur car away from dip $hits. If enough people stop going to them maybe we can get most of the bad 1s out this trade and keep the good 1s in

She’s still driving it, it’s got over 320,000 miles on it by now and still runs like a charm. For the transmission, it's most likely the conductor plate that needs to be changed out. Transmission fluid leaks into the connector and shorts it out, common problem. $100 DIY and you'll have a mostly perfect shifting transmission again. Changed my W208 CLK55 out just in case when I got it and it's been bulletproof alongside my 1996 Camry for years!

    • @jbenzjr7690

      You hit it right on the head with this because my 99 e320 I used to have to pull over shut off then start up and tranny was fine but its a warning to owner that transmission needs service and conductor plate is the culprit and is made of plastic and metal so the plastic wears out and cracks. $1000 job if a mechanic does it but you gotta get it done before it gets to limp mode and check engine comes on because the car won't move otherwise

    That acceleration problem that goes away after turning off the engine and then works again probably is because a faulty accelerator pedal sensor or the kick down button. No codes. It happened to my 200 E430 when I bought it 8 years ago. Replaced the accelerator pedal sensor under the hood and revs and goes like a maniac. Transmission with 228k does not slip. Changed oil every 40k. Excellent engine and trans.

    Very cool Scotty, I'm still working on my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee I paid 400 dollars for. It now has new tiers, new coil and complete tune up. Putting new radiator hoses on tomorrow. It now has just over 170,000 miles and runs great. If you do your own work you can make them last.👍👍👍👍👍👍❤🇺🇸

    Scotty I’m shocked!! A Mercedes you actually like? At last!!! The transmission sounds like it could very much benefit from a conductor plate replacement and fluid change.

    • @asdf-dt4bh
      @asdf-dt4bh 2 роки тому +1

      Two changes within 2000 miles would be best. It's very important to reset the oilcounter with a scantool afer each change to prevent slipping. So the transmission will relearn the new values.

      I’ve got 194,000 on a 2006 C230 V6……. To go with my (original owner) 1981 Mercedes 300SD with 275,000 miles…… and a 2003 C230 1.8 Supercharged Coupe…. Only 95,000 miles on the odometer. All are great if reasonably cared for and no car payments or high insurance costs. If I can find a $2,500 20 year old 120,000 mile CLK convertible I’d grabs it, get it detailed, put seat covers on and have another toy. Just sayin’ 😎😇😜

    OBD on this model has two ports; the main port is the 38 pin under the hood. It's also a lot faster and it will go deep into all modules, including transmission. The OBD standard port is limited and the reason it's present is mostly for the emission testing facilities. Cheers. The car is fine, but it needs a lot of love. It deserves it; don't go el cheapo !

    My mother has this same car but with the V6, identical modular design to the V8. Scotty is right, 300k miles later and the car will fall apart around the engine which continues to run. If you're mechanically inclined or have a good mechanic that won't charge a fortune to maintain it, these CLKs and E-Classes from this era are a good value into the Mercedes brand. Just make sure you have maintenance records!

My passenger seat won’t go back…seat only goes forward. Thankfully there are 3 preset seat settings that work fine. The switches are downfall but easy enough to replace.
