It is important on older cars to change the fuel pump and the alternator sometimes. They will leave you stranded if those two parts go bad and they will go bad after 20 years. There is just no way to know when they will go bad.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Scotty. Appreciate everything you do. And boy do I still love early-90s Preludes and Integras (with VTEC engines, of course).
SK- will you please do a in depth video on the recent 🇨🇦🇺🇸 border bridge crash? The news reports say the car was a newer Bentley Motors sedan. The car may of been broken, stuck pedal. Any input?
The Crown Vic/ Grand Marquis Panther-platform cars were bullet proof. There's just something about a body-on-frame vehicle that makes SOOO MUCH more sense than uni-body construction. Sure the 4.6L Modular V8 isn't the most efficient with the large steel frame and body, but it's a good alternative to large SUV. And they work a lot better with simple live rear-axle and leaf spring suspension.
That’s exactly how I feel about the V8 Tundra’s (2007-2021). They drink gas but they just don’t ever break. There’s a few guys that have gotten 1 Million miles on theirs, with very little repairs. It’s crazy impressive. My Dad has a 2009 with over 200K miles. It cranks right up and shifts like butter. It feels like a new truck. Reliability > Everything Else, including MPG.
crown victorias get better mileage than today's non hybrid suv's and are much faster of course too.. plus cheaper, more comfortable and more reliable.. and parts availability is still tops for the cheapest unbelievable prices, new ford front bumper for 45 bucks? yup.. stock powder coated front coil springs and a hydroformed box steel frame bumper to bumper.. the 4.6 is a chain driven overhead cam design with a forged crank and hypereutectic pistons.. cracked cap rods.. look up the rods if you don't know, it's expensive race technology.. all in a mass produced high revving high torque unstoppable motor.. pour some used motor oil in with dead crickets from the catch pan after 200k and it will still run smoother than many 3 year old overpriced cars lol.. yes I pour bugs right in 😅, it's fine
Nice Grand Marquette. I miss the good ol' made cars. I had a 89 Ford Crown Vic from my grandmother and it was great. It had a 5.0L, white with a dark blue top. I miss it. I sold it to my brother only because i had 2 vehicles and he needed one amd i thought my grandmother would've wanted me to so i did but he didn't take care of it like i did and broke it then scraped it. It was sad. Anyway, that was a nice luxury car that i miss alot. Good video ,Scotty. ✌️
Years back I purchased a 2004 Mazda Protege 5 with 86,000 miles on it. I ran it to 256,000 miles. I did have a problem with the transmission shifting weird at about 150,000 miles. I added some Lucas transmission fix and it cleared the problem.
My wife and I had a 2000 Protege LX, a manager's lease model that we bought with just 14k on it, priced on clearance at a little over a dollar a mile. We kept up basic maintenance and drove that thing until the winter salt caught up with it 22 years and 217,000 miles later. Still ran great, but the body rust had finally started infiltrating the door latches, so we had to sell it to a scrapyard. Best deal on any car either of us had ever had.
Ive always wanted a prelude. Been a Honda guy pretty much since i could drive. Have a 92 Accord and a 99 integra and they honestly have been the most reliable and fun cars ive ever owned. Its just those blasted timing belts.. i hate them so much.
Same here, I started buying Hondas in the early 80’s as soon as I started driving. Being a motorcycle rider since I was a kid I knew the Japanese made the best bikes so the cars had to be pretty good too. If Yamaha made cars I’d be driving one.
Watch a couple videos and get a repair manual, you may just shock yourself, it’s not hard at all and you’ll be that much more familiar with your vehicles.
My first car was a 99 Mazda protege, bought it for 400$ sold it when it was up to about 190 something thousand. Today she has 400 something thousand miles and still purrs like a kitten. (I sold it to a family friend so I see it all the time) My current car is a 2005 Nissan Altima she’s got 208 something thousand miles on it. I take very good care of my cars. lol 😅
The only reason my wife and I had to retire our 2000 Protege LX was because despite our best efforts, the salt & chemicals put on these Minnesota roads in winter had eaten it up to the point where the door latches were getting iffy. It had 231k on it, and ran so good, I think it could have lasted another 200k. Now of course, when we upgraded it was to a Camry, a 2007, so we probably won't need another car for another 20 years, unless we need 2 cars instead of one. But that Protege was more reliable than taxes being a headache.
Loved my grandmothers 1989 gran marque had a hood ornament my grandmother used to say point and Drive use the ornament to line up with the line in the road! 😂 fuel injected V8 rear wheel drive with pos trac and she had it in CT for 32 years and was still in show room condition with those real Crome bumpers and the slate blue was gorgeous car only had 80k miles in its 32 years on the road
My daughter's 2016 Scion IA/Mazda2 with 88,000 miles mostly hwy miles . It still runs like a clock . I service it quarterly clean the throttle body every 25,000 and it still has the zoom zoom
My current SUV is a Mazda 5 - 2019. Easily the best vehicle that I have ever owned. No turbo on this one, 2.5 and a 6 speed transmission. Brakes, tires and spark plugs only at the 75k mile marker. The plugs made a noticeable difference in performance. Another really well kept secret.
Oh lord don’t get me started with those panther platform cars Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Town Cars, those cars are reliable as hell. I own a 2006 town car, had it since 2012 and the only thing I had to change are the tires and oil lol. Still runs smooth. 😊
I have a 2000 Protege and it's like the Energizer Bunny, it just keeps going and going. The A/C works, the power windows all work. It just turned 200,000 miles. It still passes it's Clean Air test every year. The paint is thinning in places and it needs a hubcap, but all that is just cosmetic. That just reinforces the notion that no one would want to steal it I plan to keep it until either the engine or transmission fail, but so far there's no indication of either. One of the most reliable cars I've ever owned.
I liked the celica like Scotty’s car but in convertible GT My favorite car owned was my 5spd manual 2001 Acura integra Handled like it was on rails and was even good in snow surprisingly
The 1/2 car with divorced sign…I used to drive past it twice a day when driving through Edgerton, Kansas on my work commute. I think it’s gone now, no longer on display.
As of January 1, 2023, California will be placing roadside emissions monitoring devices (REMD) at locations around the state. These devices check emissions on any vehicle that passes it. If the device determines a vehicle may be a high emitter, the owner will receive a Notice to Submit to Testing. This will require the vehicle to be brought in to a “referee” location where the emissions and emissions components can be inspected.
So it has been in service that long. This was to inform. old Toyota and Honda drivers pouring out blue smoke. CARB has a phone number too to report smoking cars. I called it a few times.🤣@@sdcoinshooter
I had a 2002 Mazda Protege for 16 years . Never had anything go wrong with it accept a wheel bearing. The only reason I got rid of it is because the body rusted out so bad even the gas tank started leaking. I live in the north unfortunately salt from the roads.
my pops got grandma 90s grand marguqios omg what a strong durable car best american car ever made i say they last as long as toyota sister crashed it but it kept her safe car was so comfy truly comfort . I wish they still made town cars grand marquis most durable cars ever
I remember the new Protege with a manual being a fun little car. The old fox body Fords were boring but more of a grand tourer than most "GT" cars. I like them but "sports car" is a very generous description of a Prelude.
My 18 year old grandson just purchased a 2001 Lincoln Continental. We knew the transmission needed work. It just him $1800.00 for the car and another $3000.00 for the transmission to be rebuilt. So less than $6000.00 total. He loves it. I do too. And I don't even mind that is front wheel drive. I actually would trade my 2012 Nissan Frontier 4x4 for this car.. that's how much I like that car.

Nice retread on the Merc. video, Scotty! Never been a Ford guy, but those old cop cruisers were great cars.
I had a Mazda Astina (close to same as that one at the start of the video) I had one in Australia with 160k kms in2021 and crashed it at 180kms in 2023, had decent power (it is a Mazda), auto transmission can get bad but if has low kms it is good. The original disk brakes can tend to get warped all the time so expect to replace them. It was a sp20 model and was quite fast, probably faster than a Camry. Was about 20 or so years old and it was made in 2002/2003. Most of the time the auto transmission was working ok, had a few engine misfires in the end. Bought a newer car because it had old and original engine mounts, old original suspension, and electric problems
I remember getting Letters from my Chevy dealership offering to buy my 2018 Silverado 1500 back. Bec of cov19 some nonsense bout computers chips lol used car inventory was low. Southern California was given away unemployment $ to everyone but didn't give ppl enough to buy new house money but more then enough to buy used cars$ .
My 81 year old grandparents are on their 3rd Lincoln Town Car (pretty much same thing as the mercury grand marquis). Their current town car is a 2006 model that my grandpa bought used with around 80,000 miles on it. It now has around 250,000 miles on it and with him keeping up on the regular maintenance, it still runs, drives, and looks brand new. It’s a pretty nice car, and he says he’ll probably keep it until he dies because it’s done him very well. Those things are very, very reliable. My 25 year old cousin is also currently daily driving a 2003 mercury grand marquis with about 125,000 miles on it. He loves it because it is dead reliable, has room for a family of elephants inside 😂 , and just because the seats are so comfy and cushy. I might actually buy one when I get out of high school just for fun 😅
Paid 4k otd with 93k miles and timing belt done at 75k, no rust Virginia car, at 110k now done radiator, tires, and dealing with cracked exhaust manifold
in a somewhat wealthy area on Long Island in New York, there is a little old Mazda protege that sits in a parking lot in front of a store.. it seems to me the store owner uses it as a smoking room lol.. it sits there with the driver window opened whether it's raining or snowing.... it's been there for many years as a little break room 😅
That clicking sound from the prelude is the tensioner clicking. Tell the owner. Get a manual tensioner swap and clean his EGR valve clog carbon dirty build up.
Mazda's recent, excellent quality has NOTHING to do with Toyota. Mazda’s quality took off a decade ago when they split from Ford. Only the brand new Mazda CX-50 is jointly made with Toyota in their new plant in Alabama starting in 2021.
Idk about that bro. I recently bought a 2024 Toyota Camry and I looked at Mazda Miatas. They have the exact same push button start, definitely think they’re coming together on ideas.
My dad was a dodge man until he bought his first Grand Marquis in the late 80s. Nothing but Grand Marquis after that, the last being a 2004 that we sold in 2018 with less than 36k on it. Great cars.
Try a '99 Prizm, 90% of the parts are a Corolla but that other 10% is impossible to find, it was only made 2 years, huge differences from the former 2 years models.
Well, we know about it now. Following you blurbs for years. Except for those with problems, desirable used cars are almost impossible to find (except a few on dealer lots). We lost our extra car last year, still haven't found a good one yet.
Not a Ford fan by any means but Mercurys seem to be pretty dang good cars. I have an 06 Mercury Mariner (Escape with jewelry and fancy tech) and I gotta say I really love it. I have a Mercury and my roommate has a Lincoln. Once you go luxury it’s hard to drive anything else.
Hey Scott, I have a 21 Mazda three at love but I have a car drive back for to work is a 07 Chevy Malibu government car with 50,000 miles on it I love it is a Malibu a good car
Actually I was a certified Mazda tech for 8 years, I replaced very very few of those transmissions that were properly maintained. Mostly the supercharged Millennia’s and all 2.5 v6 cars. Lots of clutch jobs though on them all.
I found a 98 prelude someone is selling for 3200. 155k miles. Overall interior and exterior is in great condition. I think I’m going to make an offer. Oh……. And it’s vtech engine!
in laws had a late 90s protege, was an excellent car at the time. would that same car be good right now? not sure. but it was a trouble free fun little car then
I'm confused. The video segment (around 12:27 in) days Honda Predule. Tsk-tsk-tsk Btw, I had one, '98 manual. Put 140k miles on it -- ran like a clock. Sold for $3k 😭. Now they run x3 that money...
I am not sure if anybody has said what I am about to say here before, but the '91 Prelude Scotty makes reference to in his video is not actually a 1991-year model. It must be a 1992- or 1993-year model, judging by the wheels. I currently have a 1992 Honda Prelude Si that has the same body style.
If i viewed a Honda Prelude and it sounded like that, id a run a mile. I'm English but own a 1986 Chevvy Squarebody and the engine is as quiet as a mouse
That 21-year-old car is obviously in really great condition because it was owned by grandma who probably didn’t drive every day. She probably at the most drove an hour a week for those 20 years.
I had a friend she made a comment in conversation years ago, mechanics always drive old broken Cars. And that stayed with me bec for most part she right but at the time didn't know why. Mechanics fix cars and deal in all things in cars how could a guy pass on a 88 Toyota Camry LX for $200 3100 original miles and has been garaged since 97 pass due tags.
Nice. I have a 2015 6 also. But with 221k miles on it. Timing and everything is still perfect because i had a friend check with their tool. And the tranny is still slick and quick as new. I gave a complete trans fluid change at 160k miles and have had no problems, if anything it brought some life back/ added more life. I love driving my 6.
when my late maternal grandmother bought her used 1984 Buick Skylark from Avis Rent a Car in 1988 she paid about 5 K for it then she traded that in on presidents day 1990 for a 1990 Toyota Camry which she paid 9,300 for due to that trade in and Presidents day Cash incentives which was roughly 20% off the MSRP granted that was the base level CE trim when we bought her, her 2005 LE model my younger brother currently drives we got 8.3% off the MSRP for paying cash and a couple of missing options such as Satellite Radio which for 5 years back then would've cost around 300.00 total for the option where as now the cost for a base monthly subscription is 11.00 per month so 660.00 for 5 years
Happy Thanksgiving!

That Marquis is a Grandma Car. They’re the best finds there are. Never been abused, typically garaged, and maintenance intervals consistently done.

Crown Vic/Grand Marquis are some of the best cars ever built. I seriously bums me out to think that they will never make cars like those anymore.

Bought a newer car because it had old and original engine mounts, old original suspension, and electric problems
i love the retro thunderbird remake they did.. even smaller V8 than the 4.6
My daily driver is a 2007 Camry LE with 289,000 on the tach and the damn thing is rock solid.
Man that thing gets better mpg then my 08 coupe with a v6, fricken hell.
Honda vehicles in general are known for the lifter tick. Even the Odyssey has it.
If it’s dead than how is it reliable? 🤔
I thought about getting one, but ended up getting a 6th gen civic lx with 100k miles hopefully it lasts I didn’t want a v8
@The1stRealVR around 08 ford started to put mustang heads on the 4.6s going into the panther. The power output jumped to 235
@@OFFICIALBROTHERBOLDLYMUSICTV I didn't mean it that way. I just meant that it is a super reliable car especially with the 4.6 V8 thats in it.
Dang, that 99 Mercury is mint! ❤
I have a 96 Honda prelude with the same motor with 300k. It does not make that much noise under the Hood. He needs a valve adjustment asap
I had a 1991 Honda Prelude which had hideaway headlights. I think this one is a 1992. Not a big deal, but rather a clarification.
Mazda's recent, excellent quality has NOTHING to do with Toyota. Mazda’s quality took off a decade ago when they split from Ford. Only the brand new Mazda CX-50 is jointly made with Toyota in their new plant in Alabama starting in 2021.
Finally someone else gets it
It’s funny thr cx 50 and cx 90 r thr most advertised Mazdas I see them on UA-cam all the time .
I have a 1996 Mazda b4000 with 240,000 on it and it runs perfect, but it's not a Mazda it's a Ford.
Idk about that bro. I recently bought a 2024 Toyota Camry and I looked at Mazda Miatas. They have the exact same push button start, definitely think they’re coming together on ideas.
@@MCole713 Maybe ... but it doesn't just go one way. Toyota sold Mazda 2s as Yarises for years.
4.6 for life!
Hey Scotty, check your typo at 12:28. I don't think Honda made Predules! LOL
The best looking Prelude is the late 90s BB6 model.
If the Mazda hadn't caused her any issues idk why it would even be a question! Keep it!
My dad was a dodge man until he bought his first Grand Marquis in the late 80s. Nothing but Grand Marquis after that, the last being a 2004 that we sold in 2018 with less than 36k on it. Great cars.
The panther platform cars are bulletproof.
Love my cx5 bulletproof
Mercury Grand Marquis
with digital dash is hard to find. Every model that i found for sale had analog clocks.
Gotta love the grand marquis wish ford never stopped making them
12:38 that horse picture had me rolling lol
that mercury is a beauty
I had the same problem with parts on my 90 integra gs. I was shocked finding out how many parts where not interchangeable 🤦
My first car 1967 Cougar. 289 ran like a champ.
Mercs and Fords with the 5.0 V8 were pretty darn good.
Mercs are great. I have owned several.
Long live the Ford panther platform 👌
Hey Scott, I have a 21 Mazda three at love but I have a car drive back for to work is a 07 Chevy Malibu government car with 50,000 miles on it I love it is a Malibu a good car
my friend had a prelude with the rear steering.. of course the rear steering was no longer functional lol.. not surprising
Oh……. And it’s vtech engine!
in laws had a late 90s protege, was an excellent car at the time. would that same car be good right now? not sure. but it was a trouble free fun little car then
I owned a brand new Honda prelude si 1995 in green with gold trim and tan leather and 5-speed manual. Awesome car drove it till 280,000 miles
Prelude?
@@williambarringer6513 yes sir… my first new Honda was a 1989 crx 5 speed… I’ve always had Hondas as my daily drivers
@@petroskaramichalakos5891 I have a 98 civic lx, I had a 5th gen civic si hatchback and a 7th gen coupe before that
I'm confused. The video segment (around 12:27 in) days Honda Predule. Tsk-tsk-tsk
Btw, I had one, '98 manual. Put 140k miles on it -- ran like a clock. Sold for $3k 😭. Now they run x3 that money...
Spelt Prelude ‘Predule’.
I vote for the Grand Marquis.
The Grand Marquis is a great car and will run forever
I am not sure if anybody has said what I am about to say here before, but the '91 Prelude Scotty makes reference to in his video is not actually a 1991-year model. It must be a 1992- or 1993-year model, judging by the wheels. I currently have a 1992 Honda Prelude Si that has the same body style.
A big plus with the Mazda with a dent on the trunk - nobody wants to steal it.
I mean if Scotty can have a Scotty video in the back seat you know that grand marquis is colossal
love the grand marquis! ford really messed up when they stopped making them and the crown vics and town cars!
If i viewed a Honda Prelude and it sounded like that, id a run a mile.
I'm English but own a 1986 Chevvy Squarebody and the engine is as quiet as a mouse
Been looking at the Protege for a while
That 21-year-old car is obviously in really great condition because it was owned by grandma who probably didn’t drive every day.
Man I’d love to find a Marquis or Crown Vic, the perfect everyday driver.
This is a amazing video with epic quality!
Just picked up a 99 accord coupe 2.3 vtec with the 5mt for 2500 181,000 mi and runs great, paint not so much
Mazda Protege, Mercury Grand Marquis, and a Honda Prelude (incorrectly spelled Predule)
Scotty could you do a video on your anthropology interests? Thanks!
RE: the Mazda, if those two modules affect gas mileage, it might be worth replacing them, considering how much she drives.
I love the prelude. I had a 94 accord and that car was so good.
I got a 98 civic with 93k miles no rust for 4k a few years ago I got 110k now and the exhaust manifold is cracked I already did the radiator
My 2015 Mazda6 is still running well after 159k miles.
Crazy bout a mercury 55,000 Nice rear 🛞 drive
Best car to purchase from one elderly person 😊
Scotty can you PLEASE do a video on a 97-04 F150? With the 4.6L?
when my late maternal grandmother bought her used 1984 Buick Skylark from Avis Rent a Car in 1988 she paid about 5 K for it then she traded that in on presidents day 1990 for a 1990 Toyota Camry which she paid 9,300 for due to that trade in and Presidents day Cash incentives which was roughly 20% off the MSRP granted that was the base level CE trim when we bought her, her 2005 LE model my younger brother currently drives we got 8.3% off the MSRP for paying cash and a couple of missing options such as Satellite Radio which for 5 years back then would've cost around 300.00 total for the option where as now the cost for a base monthly subscription is 11.00 per month so 660.00 for 5 years
I had a 65 Chevy Nove SS and when I went to the gas station we told the guy to check the gas, and fill up the oil! 🤣
The fifth gen prelude is the most sought after one I’m pretty sure I like them I’d get one, but you could get an Acura tsx for that much
I Miss My 2000 Ford Crown Vic I'm really thinking about getting me another one
Honda is bringing back the Prelude. Probably going to be a high bread.
How about the Pontiac Vibe?
