The song Money by Pink Floyd was released when I was 20, over fifty years ago! I was a junior in college and could not see how music could get any better! Never ever give up on pink floyd!
I began with PF in high school. Gilmour joining the group and Waters taking the lead on writing lyrics launched the unimaginable. So I’m 55 years into their music. I may age all together but Pink Floyd is timeless
The true beauty is the natural talent and zero digital recording. All of the sound was reel to reel 8track and loops had to be cut and spliced by hand. No computer showing where to cut, either. This is 3 levels higher that ANYTHING done today. You could not find 3 people on the planet that can do this today.
Great choice Jay. Anything off of Dark Side Of The Moon is brilliant. The only thing that's strange for me is listening to an individual track. I've never done that! For me if you play DSOTM, it starts with Speak To Me/Breathe and ends 43:09 later with Eclipse. Brilliant album, great reaction ✌🇦🇺🙃
The song “Time” from the same album as this is wonderful. Really makes you think about the time we have here and encourages us to get a move on with what we want to do. 👍🏼😀
"All of those sounds" come courtesy of genius DSOTM Sound Engineer and legendary recording artist Alan Parsons. You've reacted to "Eye in the Sky" by his group, "The Alan Parsons Project". One of their songs that is reminiscent of the grittiness of Pink Floyd's "Money" is "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You". Also check out The Alan Parsons Project songs "Time", "Games People Play", "Breakdown", and "Old and Wise".
He also react to one of my all time favourites with Parsons in the booth: Al Steward's YEAR OF THE CAT. This man has magic! OH! And with The Beatles!!!
I only heard "Money" many years after listening to the entire Alan Parsons Project back catalogue many, many times over and I almost thought it was an APP track! Some research came up with the Alan Parsons connection of course and it then made sense. Never been a Pink Floyd fan though - APP were better IMHO :-)
Really cool part of this song is the second verse is also the poem in Another brick in the wall, the one the kid is writing and the teacher reads out. Always love this little fact 👍 "Money get back / I'm all right, Jack / Keep your hands off my stack / New car / Caviar / Four star daydream / Think I'll buy me a football team."
This is the song that turned me on to hi fidelity. I grew up poor and while I absolutely loved music, I had never heard a good stereo. Then I needed a ride home from work one day (back in 1978) and my buddy offered to help me out. I sat in the passenger seat of his 1969 Camaro SS and as we pulled out of the parking lot, he played this through his after market Alpine deck at very high volume. I had never heard music the way it was supposed to be heard before and this masterpiece instantly put me on a mission to get a good stereo.
Jay - I'm loving the diversity that you're coming with today. You've got this one - a CLASSIC - the Beasties 'No Sleep Till Brooklyn'; and Adele. Keep up this great work, young gun. Luv ya!

You had to listen, they played this so loud. We loved it. Would dance in her living room. Again, I am 61 now and I never tire, EVER from hearing Pink Floyd. Most likely that "sound" is Gilmore's guitar run through an old reverb amp. Back in the day, reverb effects like that were made by running the sound through a metal box with two long springs strung across it. That's the springy sound you hear. The reverb box usually sat in the bottom of the amplifier just below the speaker. So if you happened to bump it, it would sound like lightning. It's old technology from the vacuum tube era. But, delivers a sound hard to reproduce digitally. CCR used it a lot too.
Hey Jay, that noise you were asking about was done by a wah wah pedal (I think). The noises at the beginning were from a cash register tape loop, the sounds of tearing paper and bags of coins being thrown into an industrial food-mixing bowl. This album stayed on the Billboard Top 100 for 778 weeks. That's 14 years! @@marcieharreld286 I'm 53. We both got to grow up to some wickedly good music. And you got to hear The Beatles as the records were released! That must have been fantastic! They broke up when I was 3, the rotters 😂
The main theme of the Dark Side of the Moon album is “what drives people crazy”. If work can drive people crazy; (Breathe). If the frantic rush of life can drive people crazy; (On The Run). If the time that passes too quickly can drive people crazy; (Time). If the inevitable end, death can drive people crazy; (The Great Gig In The Sky). If money can drive people crazy; (Money). If the illusion of being able to choose can drive people crazy; (Any Color You Like). If what a soldier endure on a battlefield can drive people crazy; (Us And Them). All of this can certainly result in; (Brain Damage). Even though the bright side of the moon may be eclipsed; (Eclipse). But anyway, (I'll see you on the dark side of the moon).
Had forgotten how good this was. Thank you for re-introducing me to this one. Brilliant reaction too, your enthusiasm is infectious and caught me up. You are the bomb Chief.
You should watch their move The Wall, its amazing. The best way to listen to Floyd is in a quiet room with the lights low and no distractions, you end up hearing and experiencing so much more.
Do a long episode listening to Jean-Michel Jarre's "Equinoxe" or "Oxygene". You get stuff flying over your head, round the back of your head, past your eyes, in one ear through your head and out the other ear, you get my point. Just close your eyes and relax while the incredible sci-fi sounds give you an auditory experience.
Agreed, my friend. In my very humble opinion, Jean-Michel Jarre is the Grandfather of modern electronic music. Your suggestions are excellent. Absolutely mesmerising stuff ….
I used to listen to this and “Momentary Lapse of Reason” on my Walkman cassette player while in college in the late 80s. The songs totally envelop your brain.
Instruments all over the place in your head, STEREO TRICKS MAXIMUS!!! This is why people explored other Floyd songs! Other bands like Queen and too many others, made it their mission to blow your mind, on or off drugs! Amazing work on this game changer!
Wow!!! what an impact reaction!, id forgotten just how MASSIVE this track actually is and i've heard it a 1000's times in so many years. A lesson for US in remembering what was truly great and influential within music through the medium of being able to watch a new generation cast their judgement. I'm floored!
There is never been another band like Pink Floyd. I think they started around 1970 and just finally broke up and retired not long ago. David gilmour on the guitar and lead vocals is another one of the greatest guitarists there has ever been. When you watch him play on my video it's like he's barely doing anything and all that magic just blows out. Then he sings while playing, the man is incredible and probably pushing 70 years old.
In the film clip for "Another brick in the wall" the poem the boy is writing are actually the lyrics to "Money @ 3:00 on this reaction, "I'm alright Jack, get your hands off of my stack"
The UK might be very small but it's HUGE in music...Pink Floyd, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Supertramp, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, E.L.O., UB40, The Police, The Kinks, Slade, Queen, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, The Moody Blues, The Pet Shop Boys, Simply Red, The Who, Bad Company, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, etc, etc, and I'm only including some bands that came to my mind here.
That what I was thinking, we also had groups like Genesis, Greenslade, The Jam, T. Rex, The Bee Gees, singers like David Bowie, Kate Bush, Amy Winehouse, and on and on.
Oooh, you picked a good one, Jay. Love the time signature of this song; that slightly off-putting clever 7/8. Creates that tension and urgency. An immaculately produced song.
It’s a damn shame people only getting to hear this perfection that is Pink Floyd. I used to listen to DSOTM on repeat for many years. Guess we all have to start somewhere. This is the first track I heard by them when I was 9 years of age. It blew my mind! Never looked back. Still my favourite album of all time.
David Gilmore was such an awesome guitar player and his voice just had that "Dark Side of the Moon" sound! This LP was on the Billboard Top 100 albums for YEARS! I think longer than any other LP! 💙❤️🎸🎼✌️
❤️❤️❤️❤️👍 This was there first Hit - It finally got them recognition and radio play. The entire album is a Masterpiece and should be heard from beginning to end.👍
Pink Floyd is a band that is a must listened to in entirety. Though certain individual songs are great and legendary on their own, listening to the story within, the album uninterrupted, and the flow between tracks is what makes listening to Pink Floyd special. Listen to the ENTIRE Dark Side of the Moon album from beginning to end. You will then see why it was ^once the greatest selling album in history!!
The soud you wanted to know about is just a guitar with an effects pedal. I think it's the "wah-wah" pedal. If you ever get a chance, you need to see a Pink Floyd show at a Planetarium. The one we had in Vancouver showed Pink Floyd every weekend for something like 30 years straight. It's a laser show projected on the ceiling and you lie on the floor in complete blackness and the album is blasted from end to end, Dark Side or the Wall, start to finish. We used to get high on pot and go and it was just the most amazing music-listening experience in the world. So, just do some searching for "pink floyd laser show" and planetariums in your part of the world and maybe one day you'll get lucky. :)
I saw the tribute band Brit Floyd 2 years ago. They do a great light laser show. They are the closest thing you'll get to Pink Floyd. They have Roger Waters blessing. They don't disappoint. I was very nicely surprised. I'd definitely go see them again. I've seen them on TV. Their on UA-cam. Check them out. Just thought I'd give you a heads up if you're interested.
It gets better when you listen to Pink Floyd albums from start to finish. The songs blend into each other and tell a story. The Wall album is the best/ my favorite.
Honey, it was the 70s at its best! Wish you coulda been there!!! That's why we were called hippies!!! Bhip from East Tennessee!!! 63 and going strong!!!
Can't beat it. That was what made you buy the best head set. Can't beat the turn table for the best sound. 65 now but it still sound like the first time over 50yrs ago. Have fun. There's a lot of sounds to follow.
I think the "he was cruising for a bruising" at the end was said by Linda McCartney by the way, it was in response to some questions Floyd asked people who were around "When was the last time you were violent" and then "Did they deserve it"
Dark Side of the Moon, is phenomenal. Seen them live at the Cleveland Browns stadium in Cleveland back in the day. So so awesome, especially if you are smoking some fine weed. The 70's and early 80's were the best years for rock music!

I'm 53. We both got to grow up to some wickedly good music. And you got to hear The Beatles as the records were released! That must have been fantastic! They broke up when I was 3, the rotters 😂
My personal favourite track from Pink Floyd.
You always surprise me with what you're reacting to! Love this ❤️
They were phenomenal in concert too... sounded awesome!!!
Brilliant group. great songs and they music. they sure can play music 👌
Jay as you can now tell, You Can Never Go Wrong With Pink Floyd. They never disappoint.Dark Side of the Moon is one of my all time favorites.
One of my favorite bands and songs! LOVE THEM!
Had forgotten how good this was. Thank you for re-introducing me to this one. Brilliant reaction too, your enthusiasm is infectious and caught me up. You are the bomb Chief.
This album was on the charts for 14 yrs, it's one of the greatest ever.
Loved these too.
Pink Floyd has great individual songs, but their albums are really meant to be enjoyed as a whole work
I used to listen to this and “Momentary Lapse of Reason” on my Walkman cassette player while in college in the late 80s. The songs totally envelop your brain.
You feel the music so well!!!!
Memories of me and my girlfriends roaming the streets and singing this song. ❤️
This song REALLY gets fun when you know it well enough to sing along with the Sax and lead guitar.
You’re right - Pink Floyd are a whole different level
Instruments all over the place in your head, STEREO TRICKS MAXIMUS!!! This is why people explored other Floyd songs! Other bands like Queen and too many others, made it their mission to blow your mind, on or off drugs! Amazing work on this game changer!
Saw them in Indianapolis in 1994 on the Division Bell Tour. Hands down the most impressive live performance I've ever seen.
Wow!!! what an impact reaction!, id forgotten just how MASSIVE this track actually is and i've heard it a 1000's times in so many years. A lesson for US in remembering what was truly great and influential within music through the medium of being able to watch a new generation cast their judgement. I'm floored!
When I think of this group, this is the song that comes to mind
There is never been another band like Pink Floyd. I think they started around 1970 and just finally broke up and retired not long ago. David gilmour on the guitar and lead vocals is another one of the greatest guitarists there has ever been. When you watch him play on my video it's like he's barely doing anything and all that magic just blows out. Then he sings while playing, the man is incredible and probably pushing 70 years old.
To get the full immersive experience of the Darkside of the moon album - you have to sit and listen to it in the dark.
In a bean bag
Or lying on the grass staring
up at the moon and the stars ❤️
Yep chilling with a joint!
This is a marvellous trip through midtempo, jazz, swing, rock'n'roll....
I will never tire of this song
Thanks. I believe this song hold the record for the longest song in the charts several decades
In the film clip for "Another brick in the wall" the poem the boy is writing are actually the lyrics to "Money @ 3:00 on this reaction,
"I'm alright Jack, get your hands off of my stack"
Such a GREAT song. I enjoyed your reaction! 💕
New song? It was released in 1973. Such a joy to see young folks experience true classics.
This was such a big hit back in the day and it still can't be touched by anything that came after! These guys were truly Rock Gods!
Bay City Rollers, Bucks Fizz, Marilyn. The good with the bad.
My favourites: On The Run (I love synths)/Shine On You Crazy Diamond/The Great Gig In The Sky
As others have mentioned, “Have a Cigar” is a must!
Oooh, you picked a good one, Jay. Love the time signature of this song; that slightly off-putting clever 7/8. Creates that tension and urgency. An immaculately produced song.
That base line, over and over again, in 7, seven days a week. Rinse and repeat over and over: the obsession with money. Brilliant Waters.
Yeah, super smooth! That bass, that beat, then killin it with that sax 🔥 This and Have A Cigar will always be my picks.
I was really surprised you haven't heard this song after all these years lol.
pink floyd are a national british treasure . legends.
My very first album purchase in the seventies... a loooong time ago.❤️❤️❤️❤️
👍👍👍👍
It’s a damn shame people only getting to hear this perfection that is Pink Floyd. I used to listen to DSOTM on repeat for many years. Guess we all have to start somewhere.
This is the first track I heard by them when I was 9 years of age. It blew my mind! Never looked back. Still my favourite album of all time.
One of the if not THE most famous and successfull 7/8th songs ever creatde and a true masterpiece!
David Gilmore was such an awesome guitar player and his voice just had that "Dark Side of the Moon" sound! This LP was on the Billboard Top 100 albums for YEARS! I think longer than any other LP! 💙❤️🎸🎼✌️
❤️❤️❤️❤️👍 This was there first Hit -
It finally got them recognition
and radio play. The entire album
is a Masterpiece and should be
heard from beginning to end.👍
@Rose Madder Hey, did you ever see one? :D
This album was released in 1973.. almost 50 years ago and it’s still blowing minds to this day
It gets better when you listen to Pink Floyd albums from start to finish. The songs blend into each other and tell a story. The Wall album is the best/ my favorite.
Honey, it was the 70s at its best!
Wish you coulda been there!!!
That's why we were called hippies!!!
Bhip from East Tennessee!!!
63 and going strong!!!
It is art . You nailed it 👏
Super cool, from a great Album. The impact this had, when it first came out was the business! Glad you love it Jovaughn.

Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon is meant to be listened to as a soundscape, from beginning to end, in a toasty state of mind.
Thanks for reacting to this one, it's a personal fave. Love what you do, as always...big hug from Atlantic Canada👍🤗🤗🤘
Can't beat it. That was what made you buy the best head set. Can't beat the turn table for the best sound. 65 now but it still sound like the first time over 50yrs ago. Have fun. There's a lot of sounds to follow.
It's amazing all the elements they use to make their music. Super artistic....that Sax had me like woah!! They always take you on such a journey!
I just heard this on my car radio yesterday and I was thinking that I hadn't heard anybody react to it yet and hear you are!
