KOUMIOTI TRIBUTE BAND

E/ On 1 October 2024, Stavros Tarlizos and Polis Efthimiadis met in Antwerp's Schipperskwartier. The two had not seen each other for 60 years.
Stavros and Polis came to practice singing for the Koumioti Tribute Band in the neighborhood where they started their careers in the 1960s.
Polis was for many years a member of the Trio Hellinique, the trio that made the music of Zorba the Greek (Mikis Theodorakis) world famous. Stavros was a member of the Faiaken. He opened his bouzoukia - the Rodos Palace - close to Antwerp Central Station. He is also the composer and singer of the anthem of the Greek football club AEK.
Both started working in "dancing Rotterdam". For Greek sailors, this was 'stou Koumioti'. This bouzoukia is known to all Greek sailors of last century.
Koumioti Tribute Band is an occasional orchestra for BOUZOUKIA.
This is a musical heritage event that happens on Sunday, October 6, at the place where it all began. It is an anchorpoint in the heritage project IN SKIPPERSTREET, which is about the influence of Greek sailors on Antwerp.
The musical accompaniment of the orchestra is in the hands of Stratos Stabourlos and Dimitris Rossidis. The group around Stavros and Polis is composed of seven born musicians. They honour the older generation from whom they took over the torch.
Playing along: Michael Stabourlos (bass guitar), Dimitris Gounakis (vocals), Georgia Dourountoudaki (vocals), Giorgos Babanis (accordion), Michael Tarlizos (drums) , Dimitris Rossidis (guitar, vocals) and Stratos Stabourlos (bouzouki). Like Polis and Stavros, all these musicians are based in Belgium. They are fantastic!
NL/Op 1 oktober 2024 ontmoetten Stavros Tarlizos en Polis Efthimiadis elkaar in het Antwerpse Schipperskwartier. De twee hadden elkaar zestig jaar niet meer gezien.
Stavros en Polis kwamen oefenen om te zingen voor de Koumioti Tribute Band in de wijk waar ze in de jaren zestig hun carrière zijn begonnen.
Polis was jarenlang lid van het Trio Hellinique, het trio dat de muziek van Zorba de Griek (Mikis Theodorakis) wereldberoemd heeft gemaakt. Stavros was lid van de Faiaken. Hij opende een bouzoukia - de Rodos Palace - dicht bij het Centraal station van Antwerpen. Hij is ook de componist en zanger van de hymne van de Griekse voetbalclub AEK.
Alle twee begonnen ze te werken in dancing Rotterdam. Voor de Griekse zeelui was dit 'stou Koumioti'. Deze bouzoukia is bekend bij alle Griekse zeelui van vorige eeuw.
Koumioti Tribute Band is een gelegenheidsorkest voor BOUZOUKIA.
Dit is een muzikaal erfgoedevent dat doorgaat op zondag 6 oktober op de plek waar alles is begonnen. Het is een ankerpunt in het erfgoedproject IN SKIPPERSTREET dat gaat over de invloed van Griekse zeemannen op Antwerpen.
De muzikale begeleiding van het orkest is in handen van Stratos Stabourlos en Dimitris Rossidis. De groep rond Stavros en Polis is samengesteld uit 7 rasmuzikanten van de nieuwe generatie. Zij eren de oudere generatie van wie zij de fakkel overnamen.
Spelen mee: Michael Stabourlos (basgitaar), Dimitris Gounakis (zang), Georgia Dourountoudaki (zang), Giorgos Babanis (accordeon), Michael Tarlizos (drums) , Dimitris Rossidis (gitaar, zang) en Stratos Stabourlos (bouzouki). Al deze muzikanten hebben net als Polis en Stavros hun thuisbasis in België. Zij zijn fantastisch!
