UITZONDERLIJK VERVOER / CONVOI EXCEPTIONNEL ! (EXCEPTIONAL CONVOY) - AFTERMOVIE

On Saturday 20th of May 2023 a boatful of people transported a bouzouki from Brussels to Antwerp. Amongst them a great deal of musicians that were playing music throughout the whole trip. This bouzouki was not just any bouzouki.
The instrument is a gift from the Greek superstar George Dalaras. By this much appreciated gesture he supports our heritage project concerning the impact of Greek sailors on the city of Antwerp in the previous century.
While staying in Antwerp musical entertainment was an essential element for the Greek sailors to feel at home. One of these musicians was Loukas Daralas, the father of George Dalaras. Hence his sympathy for our project. The instrument that we transported in this exceptional way was built by Giorgos Matsikas, a well known bouzouki builder. From that day on it is exposed in the Museum Vleeshuis I Klank van de Stad, that collects the music of the city of Antwerp throughout the centuries. The museum is situated in the old sailor quarters of Antwerp. The presence of the bouzouki in this Flemish museum honors not only all Greek musicians that enriched the sound of the city of Antwerp but also all the Greek sailors who gave life to the great harbor of Antwerp.
