@timdanklin played this 60 this weekend, four matches, four wins. Eats Stage 2 decks that aren't able to respond KOs quickly. Most difficult match ups are Miraidon and Regidrago. With a deck thats all gas, you have to be careful when you pop Noirs so to not burn though stretchers and patches and relying on Vstar to bail you out. All around, an amazing deck, thanks for sharing and the great content!
Great and very well put video! I really enjoyed the pacing and the explanations, I find that ptcgl videos can be very helpful, they highlight the thought process behind choices and can make decks click in some players heads :)
Saw this decklist last night, instantly built it on live and started testing. It's super fun! So far I've further cut a trek for a boss's orders just to grab it off lumineon. I also like the name Darkrai Box tbh because that's what it really feels like we're doing. Finally getting comfy with it and I'm excited to test it at locals and league events
That's great to hear! Best of luck at the league events 🫡 if you've got the 1 of boss and Roxanne I'd recommend trying to find the space for a palpad too
This is a great video and something in the style I have been looking for in Pokemon TCG space for a while. Deck breakdown, why counts are what they are, other options, and matchups. While some Live clips might be cool to see the interactions for those who haven’t been in the game for as long as I have, I don’t think they’re necessary. Looking forward to another deck breakdown in the future!
I only play pokemon a couple times a year and I'm going to Baltimore regionals with your deck. Happened to see your twitter decklist and been playing it online since and its super fun. Thank you for the deck breakdown, it helped re-contextualize a lot of the card choices and when I should be going first or second. If a yugioh player randomly does well in Blatimore, it will be because of this video.
@@timdanklin Update in case ur curious. i scrubbed out the main event because I'm terrible. I went 0-3 and it was definitely all my misplays the deck performed great. Thankfully the side events i played way better and i wound up with a booster box out of it. Was a good time, will be tuning into your videos when i see them in my sub box.
i did wind up cutting a pokestop for a second roxanne tho. i felt like i kept bricking drawing multiple stops and also wanted to make sure i could roxanne when i needed to in case i prized or had to discard it early
Long time Magic player here who started pokemone recently. This deck is great and just my style. Love these kind of breakdown videos. Some game play would be nice as well but maybe separately.
I just came across this video when making a dark type deck (I'm new to pokemon, so I'm trying to stay with one type). You gave me so much helpful information and maybe buying a few cards for my deck I'm building. Thank you so much, and it was really informative and interesting to hear your strategies. instant sub
Very cool list, I love me some Dark Patch play. I would say TCG play is more helpful for this type of deck than most so that we can see the sequencing in action.
Such a sick deck, would love to see some gameplay footage to show how the sequencing actually plays out. Awesome deck though, im excited to give it a try!
Having some gameplay via TCG Live is very helpful imo so you can see the deck in action and potentially see how to play out of less than ideal hands/situations. I might try this deck out at some point since before I took my most recent hiatus from the game(about 5 years or so back when Pikarom was a deck). I did really enjoy playing Darkrai Ex back in B/W format with Dark Patch and the other dark support at the time.
Been playing irl with the deck against meta decks. I've sometimes feel the match is in my grasp but I failed to draw a winning card from a research out of 10 cards. Morpeko might be too good by the 4th turn where you can't pecha into the active and you used all your switch options, forcing you to attach the retreat which defeats the purpose of pecharunt 2 attack, might as well roaring moon. I'll try morepeko instead of switch cart. Also... I thought that i might want to test with pelipper Hearsey. I dunno how to fit it in but i have a feeling it might be just what the deck needs.
Went to a league today with morpeko. It definetly helped 2 out 3 games I needed it. But i was thinking, wouldn't 1 or 2 rescue board work better? went 3/2/0 where I lost against gardevoir fml, and against raging bolt with stellar... won the 2-2 race until iono to1 and couldnt attack with pecha.
Went 1-2 at a challenge with this! I started to get a good feel for it by the last round, excited to run it at the weekly league tonight! L- Raging bolt ( got donked) L- Regidrago (good start, lost steam) W- ancient box(the 3rd eye was opened)
played this to locals last night! Went 2-0 WW - United Wings WW - Snorlax LL - Espathra ex Deck feels great, espathra was just an awful match. locals was crazy ln lol. BUT i do think this deck could very much benefit from a way to put some cards from ur discard back into your deck. idk which card would be best tho. love the deck ty for sharing!
I have tested this list and I want to build it irl to play at local cups out of all the decks I've played this format this has been the funniest deck to play
To answer the tcglive gameplay question - I also find it boring. I think having clips of key plays or moments could be good to show while you discuss the deck, though.
Glad I'm not the only one, that seems like a good middle ground! I'll definitely try out including some screenshots of board states or quick clips in the future
Went 3/0/1 this week at my locals to get 2nd (1st was my round 4 opponent, and we intentionally drew because our store has a bounty system where players whop go undefeated get their names on the board as a bounty, where the next week, each opponent who manages to beat them get a free pack, so we wanted there to be more people on the bounty board)
do you think a 2nd Sada could be worth finding space for in the list? it would make going 2nd gameplan a bit more consistent and give the deck a bit extra gas in the late game to close out games, but the space does look VERY tight
It's 100% worth considering! I tried heavier counts of Sada for a while, but came to the conclusion that research is just stronger - 1 is usually enough for the turn 1 attack since it's searchable, and in the late game you'd usually rather attack with pecharunt anyway
@@timdanklin that's pretty fair, prizing the 1-of is concerning and having the extra out to not be as obligated to Lumineon for it could be worth it, but yeah 1-of should be fine been enjoying using the deck on Live, but my luck has been a little rough, too many fish starts haha, but the deck is straight gas when it sets up properly, I love the creativity!
I've been playing this deck online and it has been fun. i know you mentioned a few cards you considered, but after taking it to worlds, would you make any changes to it?
Glad you're enjoying the deck! So far every card has felt great and I'm not changing anything for my own locals just yet, but if I were to, I think my first change would be finding space for a 1 prize attacker
This deck is crazy I played it on the ranked ladder on live and I won 14 straight. Also wondering if there's any changes that need to happen because of stellar crown and how well this deck is against terapagos
14 in a row is crazy!!! I haven't thought about it too much yet - I'd like to see how the meta shakes out, but I think it's still relatively well positioned going forward ☺️
Been testing this deck for the past few days and have absolutely been loving it, but how do you see it converting into the Stellar Crown format? I’m not going to Baltimore so I’m looking to test for events past that and would love to hear your thoughts!
I haven't thought about it TOO much yet - but I think it'll definitely stay relevant! You can shut down noctowls before they evolve and have good prize control to get around Briar!
I think it's pretty hard to substitute prime catcher, secret box might need you to add some other cards to get full value - if you have it, you could try unfair stamp!
Gameplay would be incredibly useful. I've tried playing a ton of matches yesterday and today and feels like a complete brick. Either im not benching the right stuff for the situation or my sequencing is off. Love the idea and its great when it works but double dusknoir turn 2 feels impossible. Im almost always starting with 2 research or a Roxanne in hand with no nest balls or ultra balls or concealing in to even more energy! Im used to playing these types of control decks Banette/Gard (which i've won challenges with) and Banette/Noir which I can say is almost always guaranteed to get double dusknoir all the time. So list feels a little unfocused or I just can't switch the game plan on the fly. Either way would love to see some gameplay with reasoning for decisions in the moment and props to playing this at worlds!
Im specifically trying to practice the turn 2 double dusknoir frenzied gouging and I've done it about twice out of 12 tries 😭😭 Deck is skill gapping me so hard
Is there any line to take if you get a 2 prizer ko’d t1 by like raging bolt or moon besides Roxanne and pray? Feels not great to pop double Dusknoir to put them to 2 prizes but I can’t really see any other good way to keep up.
Whoops noticed you had mentioned it in your matchup piece. I’ve been going blind first on TCGL but keep getting bodied by the turbo decks if they get the t1 gust on Darkrai. I’m almost considering just going for only a 1 prize board if I see that on the other end
Yeah it's a bit difficult when you're basically playing best of one and going blind first, it's a bit easier when you can counter pick second - a one prize board state is hard to manage cause it means you can't squawk or start hand attaching to moon
Dudee!! I just stumbled across your channel. You are truly building masterpieces. I just got into this tcg because of a friend and so far enjoying it a lot. I dont even have 100 games on PTCGL and even with a winning record. However I don’t just want to play Pult/Noir even though I love it, also just tired of 3/5 matches being Zard/Pidgeot/Noir. So i started looking for alternatives and trying to cook with other decks. I crafted a Turbo Okidogi/Darkrai that I like a lot. Still have to iron out some things. Then I started to build theoretically a Turbo Darkrai with the inclusion of Glass Trumpet. Things like Cornerstone, Bloodmoon and even the inclusion of Arceus V since its colorless and basic. The acceleration of 8 energies in a turn for Darkrai sounds broken and fun. You think you could explore this option? Also, if you want I can send you the list. Like I said, is a work in progress and the idea is to be ultra minimalistic in Trainers and heavy on items.
