      Get IRL experience. It’s so easy to convince yourself you want to do stuff. You can think you’re 100% sure. But you won’t know till you see it firsthand.

    Family time?? Does surgeons have any days off, where they dont even get calls. Money made during residency and during individual practice.

    • @user-uf9lg3ue7y
      @user-uf9lg3ue7y 6 років тому +16

      Karan dhillon simple answer... no. Having a family is really hard as a surgeon as you devote most of your life to your practice. However, if family is a priority, I’m sure you’ll still manage to pull aside time for them

    I'd love to reference this channel in my personal statement for applying to med school, as I've learnt so much about the real life of a surgeon more from this channel as any book, however, I doubt any unis admissions would be woke enough to give it any validity. Kinda like the house with Zuckerburg !!!

    Woah so you don't work for the hospital, but a place that gets contracts with the hospital? So that does that mean you get paid more or less? Asking as a general question, money is nothing to me, medicine just intrigues me just as much as economics

    We do 24 hour shifts. 8AM to 8AM. And two to three shifts a week. Sooooooo, depending on the patient flow, it's quite busy. One unlucky b***ard gets the Sunday duty on rotation! 😂

    Thank you for your informative and entertaining videos! I would like to get your take on cross training and practice between primary care and a general surgeon practice. I love the primary care interaction between patients but the skills of a general surgeon and opportunity to use those skills, are very intriguing to me. Have you ever heard of any physician that operate in that business structure?

    Thanks for the videos but could you also record in the hospital and show what it is like ? Talking in a car means you're partially distracted and also doesn't give the real picture of what it's life. Otherwise the information you provide is much appreciated !

    When you talk about the "24 on -- 7,8,9...days" shifts.. does that mean yo go to work, start at 7am for example, and you literally don't leave the hospital? Or would you do like 48 hours and then get to go home for a day or something? It just sounds awful if you actually spend like all that time at work without going home.

    • @drbuckparker
      @drbuckparker  6 років тому +10

      Most of the time if I’m on 24/7 I do sleep at home. Sometimes I get called in the middle of the night and have to go im but it’s not often. More often I get called for nursing orders. Then u get woken up 3-7x per night. Inconvenient but not terrible

    I have a question from you.Actually I am a little bit confused about my career.I want to study BDS but people in my country say that there is no scope in it you should persue mbbs blah blah.I want to know that dentist has good life or not and there is scope in this field or not??
    Thanks in advance 😇😇😇

      Mbbs means (bachleor of medicine and bachleor of surgery) and bds means (bachleor of dental surgery).I want to become a dentist and I really love it but my parents want me to persue medicine beacuse there is more money in it 😢 So in your opinion what do I choose 😇
      I will be very thankful to you for your opinion 😇😇

      Apply just like everything else! Lots of them are "internal" like you know a person who knows a person. There are also "head-hunters" like reps that call u for jobs. Also there are some job-board just for docs.
