- How Do You Pick Which Area Of Medicine to Go Into?! Dr. Buck tells a personal story about how he found his strengths and interests that lead him to want to be a surgeon. As a medical student or resident, it can get a little confusing figuring out if you want to be a nurse, doctor, or surgeon, let alone deciding what specialty in those careers. Finding out what your strengths and weaknesses are early on can be a huge deciding factor for what medical field to enter. Figuring out what your interests are can say a lot as well.
