  • Many newbies to the Big Island of Hawaii cant get over the fact that the price of land is so cheap on the south side of the big island and also dont understand why there arent more resorts or camp sites etc.

Brah, I have roots in Hilo (not native, Filipino and Portuguese) and everything you're saying is 100%. That land is different. Beautiful but that whole end of the island gives me chicken skin. Even my grandpa and grandpa used to say all the same stuff about Puna and South. They used to camp down there but there was always stories. That land is alive and has an energy. My recommendation to visitors is to stay in Hilo, Kona side, the north end, pass through the south side and enjoy the beauty and (mostly) delightful hospitality, but if you decide to stay there, don't be surprised when things change after dark. It's a different kind of land.

I don't know about magnetism, but I do know about vog. More than other parts of the island, Kau and far south Kona get choked with vog. That's enough to explain it for me. And even if you have lungs/sinuses of steel, and you don't mind so much vog, dropping tons of money on property and improvements down there is risky given Mauna Loa's status, getting overdue for an eruption.
And I noticed that same abandoned golf course/tiki huts. Like a ghost town. Real weird.

Pavlo and Jeff My email is, paultorres49@gmail.com or if you go on Facebook and look up professor offgrid then pick Apolinar blas and you will see who we are instead of just a name across the bottom of a reply, send any info or advice you can time willing and it would be highly appreciated and someday would like to show up thank you guys in person , Paul . The locals of the Ka'u District, the southernmost district, of the south side of Hawaii Island will welcome with you in the spirit of aloha, basically unconditional love. They will respect you because they believe that "God" sent/brought you there for a reason. No, you will not to be boiled alive in a giant black pot by those horrible, racist locals (humor) like you might have imagined while viewing this video, but instead you will grow spiritually. There is a special energy there that strips people of their ego. In many cases visitors have to deal with important personal issues that surface all of a sudden. Visitors leave there stronger, more alert, and more enlightened. Slow down, respect the place, and you'll be just fine. It's not a "creepy" place -- it's a high-energy place. Your deep-seated repressed emotions might erupt, giving you the opportunity to do some emotional house cleaning/therapy. Your heart chakra might open, too. Aloha.

After WWII a large number of Marshall islanders who were displaced from their homeislands as a result of nuclear-testing radiation contamination, moved into the area integrated with land. Culture and have been living there ever since. Many of them are still seeing effects of the nuclear radiation in their children up till present. So you can very much expect to find some superheroes there that are still mad at CPT. America.

A few times every century, the southern flank of Mauna Loa "leaks" lava. Meaning all that lush green land gets wiped out by lava. Which is why it is thought to be "cursed." That is why there are no resorts there. That is also why the land is so cheap. If you buy land there with your hard earned money and lava comes along and covers said land, it becomes Public Land again and is no longer your private land.

For all intents and purposes, living in HI is like living in a foreign country. Nice people yes, but my experience is that the nicety is only skin deep. I've been told a few times to go back to my own country, for no reason. But I have never had any threats or violence because of that. Rewriters of history have induced a bunch of locals that the whites have stolen their land, culture, heritage etc, the usual hate the white man BS, and some are resentful as a result. The real problems here are the white druggie homeless freeloaders who have messed thins up for everyone. There are virtually no public restrooms here because these creeps abuse any and every hospitality or convenience provided for the public as is done on the mainland. It is also very expensive to live here. The standard of living is a big step down from the mainland generally, unless you have lots of money.
