The thing
I was the projectionist at a movie theater in the 90's. One of the most fun jobs I ever had. I had keys to the place and my friends and I hung out playing pool, arcade games and watching movies after hours every weekend. All the free candy, popcorn and drinks we wanted, too. Probably helped that It wasn't owned by a big corporation.
My brother had a similar setup but in the early 2000s. Nothing like falling asleep in an empty theater at 4AM watching the new Pirates of the Caribbean lol
That's kinda worse that it wasn't owned by a big corporation. Unless you had permission that's theft and from a small business owner? I don't think it's that cool.
@@diy_mushroomguyAgreed!
You stole concessions from the guy signing your check? Not very nice.
@@lomarsweed6604 We had permission. Nobody cared as long as we weren't greedy about it. Especially popcorn. We'd throw away full trash bags of it every night.
I remember watching Texas chainsaw massacre with a group of friends on a Friday night, drinking beer and getting high, it was hilarious ! We couldn't stop laughing at the absurdity of it. Ten years later I watched it again, alone, in an empty house and it scared the bejesus out of me.
Saw it in the theater with a friend a few months ago. It was a riot. Plenty of booze but I didn't smell any weed lol.
my only memory of that film is being roughly 8 years old and staying at a family friend's house (ig he was about 15), falling asleep on his bottom bunk looking at a (3x1 foot) screenshot of the TCM on his wall, with the lady being fishhooked/hung by her eyeball. Worst nights sleep i'm yet to have.
only plusside was playing halo 3 & guitar hero for the first time.
I didn't see that switch up coming. Yeah I laugh at movies that try too hard to be scary. It has to have that balance, you know?
Watch Don't Kill It
I was scared and i laughed my ass off
Remake or original?
I was in my mid 30s when Blair Witch came out, a buddy and I went up to the cabin for some deer hunting and I brought the movie along. This cabin sits in the middle of 40 wooded acres so when its dark out, its DARK out. Anyway, we put the movie in, Im across the room on one bunk and my buddy is on the futon by the sliding glass front door, closer to the tv than I was.
About half way thru the movie he jumps up and shouts "Fuck this!" and he pulls the curtain across the door to block that big, scary black door that was 3' away from him. I laughed so hard it wasnt funny, seeing a grown man jump up all scared like, the movie had made me jump a few times by this point so I got where he was coming from. He muttered how looking at that goddamn door was freaking him out. We still laugh about it today.
Watching that movie while camping is like watching Jaws while wading in the ocean at night.

Blair Witch Project scared the hell out of me- I saw it as an advanced screening before it was released in theatres. I thought it was a legit documentary- after that i walked into the parking lot catatonic. Woke up in the middle of the night in sweats and screaming out loud. Most visceral experience ever and i was instantly convinced that witches are out there
I remember seeing this with my friends when I was in high school. Saw it with two of my friends, was a little freaked out. Anyways we take train home, they lived closer to train station, I had to walk like 3 miles to get home at night like 10-11ish.
What sucked was there’s a spot near my house that allowed you to cut thru a trail and would literally lead you 3 doors from my house, or you could walk around 3 blocks to bring you to other side of trail.
So I’m standing at that spot deciding for like 5 mins if I’m going thru trail or walking around the block. I decided to walk thru the trail. I take few steps and I step on a branch and my jacket gets caught on a bush so it feels like I’m being pulled back… scared the fuck out of me, I ran thru that trail lol. When I get out on other sides I see friends from neighborhood hanging out, they’re like dude wtf is wrong with you… I didn’t even bother trying to explain whatever, I just went home and didn’t sleep at all that night.
I laughed during that movie. It was terrible…so terrible it was hilarious. Anyone who was scared has some issues.

Oh I was cured alright.
Off topic, but yeah, I loved that too!
I am still traumatized by the original exorcist. I saw it when I was 10 and I believe in God. That shit hit me way different than just being scared.
I’m 48 and to this day if I see a picture of Reagan I’ll have nightmares for a week, that movie totally wrecked me lol
I watched it 2 years ago with my brothers.
I don't think I've laughed more in a horror movie.
As a kid it scared me but if you watch it now.
Trust me.
It's a unintentional comedy.
Amen, saw this at the drive in theaters in 1978 with my mother and hid in the floorboards of the car until the cartoons at the end came on!
I was 4 years old and never watched this alone until I was in my 40s and born again and it no longer frightened me.
I love bill burr. he just makes me want to kick back relax and listen to some stories. His outlook on life is just so relatable. He never let the money and fame get to his head.

The scariest movie I have ever seen has never been touched by any other horror movie I have seen. No other movie has left me with real fear like this movie has. To this day, I cannot stand swimming in water I cannot see through clearly because of this movie. The movie I am talking about is called Piranha. Probably because I have swam where the movie was filmed in 1978 at Aquarena Springs in San Marcos Tx.
Lights out . Very under rated
I remember as a kid my older sister and her then bf took me to see Nightmare on Elm Street at a drive-in. The crazy thing is we actually lived on a street called Elm street in So-Cal it's by the famous Randy's Donuts with the big donut. I was like 11 and although I knew it was just a movie my imagination at that age took over and imagined it was happening in our neighborhood. I really miss watching scary movies at drive-ins there was something about being outdoors and at that age the screen looked like a big portal to me lol it really adds to the experience.
I saw blair witch before everybody knew it was fake. I was very relieved when it came out as fake.
I am 66 years old, and have been a horror film fan since the age of six, so I became numb to things that might scare others. I can honestly say, that the only two horror films out of the thousands I have seen that gave me a "real" scare was "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and "The Exorcist". I saw "The Exorcist" alone when I was 13, but I didn't see TTCM until I was in my thirties. John Carpenter's "The Thing" scared me just the same, but although it contains many excellent horror elements, I consider belonging more in the science fiction genre.
When people go "That movie didn't scare me"
sucks for you. I want to get pulled in. I want to experience that visceral sensation of emotion.
I saw Paranormal Activity at SFF. It was essentiallyban indie, no ads, no shots fort films. We were one of the first audiences to see it. People shit their pants. I'm not suprised it got huge distribution + killed the box.
The ending lmap 😂 “Jamie im sweating like a ….” Wonder what Joe sweated like!!

The 5th kind… I’ll always remember looking back in the movie theatre and seeing everyone’s face. Literally everyone’s jaw dropped, I just laughed. I was still scared too 😆
This movie has stuck with me for so many years. For a long time after watching it if I woke up in the middle of the night I would pick up the landline phone next to my bed and pretend to call someone. My reasoning was just in case they were watching me, maybe they would skip me that night bc I was on the phone.
In hindsight, I'm sure they wouldnt have cared too much about interrupting my phone call.
"What was the movie about flipping the lights on and off called?"
_Lights Out._
Seriously, it's practically a punchline in itself.
Like Bill, I saw the last showing, only it was opening day. The last scene jolted me, and went to bed late that night, especially scrolling their website with more of their backstory. It was only days later that they put out their disclaimer.
Bill burr’s voice is hilarious alone. When he screams I’m rolling dead 😂
I worked at a movie theater when The Blair Witch Project came out. It was awesome. I got to see it before anyone. We KNEW it was fake and it scared the crap out of us.
Mom's voice is awesome
LOVE LOVE Old Dads! It's a must watch!
The Exorcist and Exorcist 3 pure horror classics.
Poltergeist. I saw it by myself on tv when I was like 8.
That was the River Oaks Plaza, built in the 30s, still has the original Art Deco wood carvings on the wall. I saw many midnight movies there, took many dates there. Saw Blair Witch there, the whole audience hated it and booed it and threw stuff at the screen.
Closed due to COVID impacting business....but was recently bought by Star Theater and is set to reopen soon. Cannot wait!
I remember that trailer! I thought it was a short film!!
The animations really made this one for me! Better than actually watching their faces lol.
I saw Blaire Witch for the first time at 4am after I woke from the flu throwing up and couldn’t go back to sleep, watching the movie in the kitchen by myself with our tv having had been moved out of the family room because our carpets had been torn up. I also tried to eat a banana while watching it but I was so sick it just didn’t happen.
I love horror movies but I watched The Conjuring a few years ago and was terrified! It was kinda scary and then the exorcism comes and I just felt like I let demons out. I naturally felt myself saying like “the power of Christ compels you”. I was Panicked looking for a bible. I have never felt something so real and evil until then. Never really believed in spirits or demons but now I truly question it
I love horror movies. I watched him by myself all the time. I just realize this makes me sound like a huge loser I guess I am. Lol But I cannot watch the conjuring by myself. Absolutely terrifies me. Like right now even just thinking about it I’m scared and I’m not going back into the basement tonight to switch my laundry. Lol
Saw Conjuring 1 in theatre with my cousins - midnight show...

Omg! I said the same, Scarface chain saw scene! Brutal!
Bill’s parents were right! I saw terminator 2 in theaters when I was 7…it was amazing!
When The Exorcist was in the theaters, back in the day. My brother was fifteen and got permission from mom to walk to and from the theatre for an night time showing.
She worked nights, so us younger kids were asleep by the time he got home. He walked alone the three miles from town, mostly without any streetlights. Mom called that night to ensure he made it back. He was turned into a little boy wanting his mommy.
my parents took us to mature movies too, i relate
I not sure if this applies but I seen Evil dead 2 as my first very real movie? There’s might of been other movies at the time but that movie alone over laps them just saying‼️👻 IT Scared the ghost out of me I’m sure… 😅 Been different even since…. 🤔
Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is a "Let's play" with Bill Burr playing through the entirety of "P.T" by himself, in the dark, and with an awesome TV and awesome sound system.

Dude it is such a shame that game got cancelled and all we ever had was that teaser. I was so hyped for that. It had crazy talent behind it too kojima, Guillermo del toro plus Norman reedus as the lead. Man that was gonna be something special. Atleast kojima is finally making another horror game again with Jordan peele

When I was a kid growing up in South FL, there was a Lionsgate theater me & my friends would always sneak into. I vividly remember being high af & sneaking in to watch Deuce Bigalo & laughing like idiots in a completely empty theater in the middle of the day.
Good times lol
I remember going to the movies with a few friends after a night out. We had been drinking so we decided that watching a horror movie was the best idea.... i honestly dont even remember which one it was but it was really late and we were the only ones watching that movie. At some point i got up to take a leak and noticed that the entire theater was closed off and nobody was there anymore. Not even staff. It was really creepy and kind of awesome. In the end we left through an emergency exit.
I used to get free movie tickets from someone who used to be my friend. We also did the same shit, going there after they close to watch movies. It was awesome. I remember feeling like a big shot when we invited girls to watch movies after they had closed. The girls loved that shit. They had like normal movie reels, but you could also use USB sticks, so we could watch what ever we wanted. Im still in my 20's for a little while longer so that was a thing then.
I’m a 25 year old man and I get scared by horror movies it’s a little embarrassing lol

I just start thinking weird shit at night before going to sleep. If i'm sleeping with a chick, then there's no worries cuz, fuk it, we both goin to die. But if i'm solo? Lol...
I'm also a 29 year old "man" 😂
Why embarrassing that is the point
Not embarrassing, it's just a really good movie.
Good movies are supposed to invoke emotions and get you engaged. It would be a bad comedy if you didn't laugh or bad romance movie if you didn't feel the warmth and happiness from it.
It means youre fun to watch horror movies with. embrace it it's something that makes you interesting (:
I loved Grave Encounters
Billy Loomis: "Movies don't create psychos, movies make psychos more creative!"
I believe this line from the movie Scream to be true. Without the movie Scarface I don't think the internet would have been "graced" with horrifying videos like Funkytown Gore and Two Guys One Chainsaw.
Yea I always imagine myself in the movie and get really absorbed into it, if its any good
The fact that no one wants to talk about how BB has hair when talking to his mom and no one talked about it……great detail.

What movie is Bill talking about?? It sounds kinda new
5:01 back when parents were in charge 😂😂
The most disturbing scene ever is in Scarface, beginning of movie, the guy cut in half in the shower! You could hear that saw buzzing and see blood splattering, but it was you imagination that makes it so horrific!
Marketing for Blair Witch was a genius thing. I remember how nobody knew if it’s real or fake, even tv news got confused. And then i saw that fuckin movie. I could not sleep in the woods for years. No other movie had that kinda impact on my life. Jaws? Pfff, there are no sharks in freshwater lake, but i can’t sleep in a tent anymore.
What was the movie he was describing?
Blair witch was the only movie I saw where my bud who I saw the movie with were no where near on the same page by the end. The credits rolled and I thought it was barely engaging, he said it was the scariest movie he's ever seen.
Lights Out is the short film and movie he's referring to btw.
Bill Burr is the next Bruce Willis. Can't wait for his next movie. This guy might be a superstar.
He reminds me of my mom with the song lyrics lol “What’s the song that goes.. Well I don’t know if I’m wrong or I’m right”
Hereditary is the best horror movie ive seen in a long time. Any recommendations???
Last time I remember being scared by a movie was in late 80s with Ghoulies.... I was like 5 maybe... somehow I though that green monster in the toilet was 10x more scary than Freddy Krueger
The slasher movies I can't do. It's like the entire plot is based around how many creative ways they can show people getting killed. After watching the 10th person get hacked up I throw in the towel. 😅
The first movie they're talking about is lights out
Well the first horror movie I ever saw was A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, when I was 3 or 4 years old, still remember sitting in the car at the Drive In Movie Theater. It sparked my love of horror and fear growing up. These days though, I find horror movies to be shit, but to be fair I haven't watched any in quite some time. Regardless though, I still love horror and fear, and there are other forms of media for it, and lovely holidays like Halloween.
Its funny, cus i was around 3 or 4 when i saw Childs play 1st and eventually a nightmare on elmstreet. The chucky movie got me so scared. I had a my buddy doll. Got rid of it. Two years later i found it at my grandparents and thought it was trying to kill me. When i watched nightmare on elmstreet, strangely i stopped having nightmares. Everytime a nightmare would start, freddy would come and kill my nightmares. Somehow he turned into a protective uncle. l in my dreams. I find it highly ironic.
@@rab46290 Nice, I had one of the my buddy dolls too, child's play was also one of my favorites as a kid, still is.
Try some new ones. 2022 especially was one of the best years for horror since the mid-80s if you ask me.

I watched so many r rated movies as a kid too
When it first came out there was this is it real or is it not made it that much more terrifying.

A horror movie is nothing but an action or drama movie that tries to scare you and fails.
The last 5 minutes of Blair witch are the scariest of the entire movie
Joes head look so normal back then
I went on a night time backpacking trip literally the night after watching the Blair Witch Project. I was genuinely freaked out. I kept hearing deer or something moving around in the woods but i couldn't see WTF it was.
First scary movie I ever watched was Nightmare On Elm Street.i was 7 years old and I sat up by myself while everyone else slept and it never bothered me.most horror movies still don't bother me unless they have a jump scare when I'm actually not expecting it but it doesn't make me stop watching the movie
When I was like 7, I watched "The Leprechaun" series. I was too little to understand that it's a comedy and parody. It scared the shit out of me, imagining a tiny evil murderous midget in my room at night. At bed height.
Same here!! I’m starting to find out a lot of us were shown Nightmare on Elm St. at an early age.😂😂😂
"Most horror movies still don't bother me unless they have a jump scare when I'm actually not expecting it..."
You're either watching the wrong movies, or you're not fully letting go, and able to put yourself into the shoes of the protagonist.
A good horror film SHOULD make you feel scared or uncomfortable.
... and if it's a really great movie and that's still not the case...
That doesn't mean you're an incredible badass. It just means you don't know how to "let go" and truly get lost in the movie.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not immune to that shit either. I have ridiculous ADHD, and that can make it very hard to get into a protagonist's head, in the worst cases.
But when the film is great, and I'm able to fully commit to the experience of that movie, I can very much be affected.
(Meaning, in this genre, that I can feel intense anxiety and suspense.)
And let me tell you, those are some of the greatest movie-going experiences of my life.
Like I wish and pray for a horror movie good enough to shake me, and make me feel a little fucked up.
I've been a serious horror fan for about 40 years now... (lol)
When you've been around that long and seen enough crap, it can make you start to feel jaded. A little bit numb to "basic" horror...
But that's not always the case, and I absolutely LIVE for those horror movies that can serve as an exception to the rule.
But don't let yourself be afraid to be afraid. That's what the genre is there for-- not to prove how much of a badass you are by never being affected.
Because absolutely nothing will affect you, if you don't ALLOW it to!
(Pro Tip: IRL life works exactly the same way... it's just a little harder effectively to put into practice.)
That horror movie exists to help you feel more alive.
... maybe in the form of a momentary creepiness, or even brief terror... but it strives to make you feel more alive, nonetheless.
intentionally suppressing those feelings makes you more weak, not more brave
You're stronger / braver when you feel that fear and press on anyway.
TBH there's nothing "cool" about not being scared by horror. that's just sad, because you're missing out on a fundamental human experience, because you somehow feel like you should be "above it" and unaffected.
But that "affect" is the entire goddamn point.
Your comment is like saying "I shoot heroin every single day, and I don't ever feel high-- not even a little bit."
Really dude? Are you sure you understand why people actually want to do this...?
Let yourself "be affected."
And if you're not sure how, then figure it out.
It's worth it-- I Promise.
@@aaronmerrill4730 did you realy write this? If so, name some horror movie that everyone must see, tha tis terrifying.
@@aaronmerrill4730 I think you're........ overthinking it lol. I believe all the original commenter meant was they know it's not real so all the monsters and ghostly figures don't really terrify them like that. Even if you think about a monumental classic such as 'The Exorcist,' it naturally has less of an effect on people that aren't religious and never were believers in the first place, much less in possession. The fact they said they still get a bit of a thrill from the intended 'jump scares' (which are ironically to people like us who love horror cinema considered mostly cheap and overdone the majority of the time) shows they weren't going out of their way to come off as 'badass' in their comment...
I saw zodiac and was terrified walking across the parking lot afterwards. Especially since they never caught the guy
Reality is all that scares me anymore.
Only couple movies have scared me but I made sure to watch Antichrist alone in the night and goddamn it get's intense at the end especially if you have actually watched the dynamic from beginning to end. Since most of it is about grief and how the building frustration gives the window for something to interfere. If you don't know about the worst parts it is better.
The Audition is structured kinda the same way, you have to pay attention for it to get bonkers. I still think movies like Irreversible or The Piano Teacher are more intense than horror horror. Like US horror especially is so gimmicky. That's why Cabin in the Woods for example is great since it plays with that. Og Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Shining etc. are ofc great movies even without being scared. Just like this uuh Freddy x Jason bs. The Tale of Two Sisters is great at building tension, rare ones that atleast worked on me yeaars ago I last watched it.
I dont get Audition. I love Japanese movies, but that Just dissappointed me.
@@pioneernut7487 when did you see it? Because I think it needs to have been seen at minimum like between 10-15 years ago (maybe even the 15 years) or it can feel like it doesn't hold up anymore. Also if you were previously into Takashi Miike the movie is kinda way too you thinking what's up with this and just seeing the weard richrich asian "dating" culture. Like you do get hints that she is not normal and something is going on, but it's a lot about the end shock of how far they go with showing her process and joy in it (she acts very well in it). A lot of the thing being the anyone can really be a serial killer, even a small beautifull woman.
Also even if now it can look like tearing into a puppet meat, it just didn't back in the day. I remember looking it again and the end didn't look to me as realistic as it had when I first saw it, I still haven't seen it in recent years. Maybe the second time was partly for focusing on it more for knowing it's coming but partly for over-saturation of all kinda thriller horror serial killer stuff and it's in general by the decade harder and harder to shock people. Like a lot about Audition's end is about how sensless and super bad luck it is while making sense as something that could happen. There is now like multiple Ted Bundy movies (that never actually goes How Crazy Depraved he was) and Dahmer series etc. and people going thru true crime so much from yt and podcasts that it for sure have made Audition to loose a lot about the thing it has. Still if you did saw it yeears ago the feeling of the movie does stay with you heavy. If it wasn't back then someones/your thing, I think the build up might simply feel too long or something. I did like it. It isn't like the french movie Irreversible that has a very shocking scene but doesn't completely rely in it as a movie. The scene is more so the explanation that put the unfortunate things in motion. Audition kinda relies on the one trick which can be bad for lasting, but it did it's thing SO well for those around 15 years that it cannot imo just be pushed aside. I don't think it would anyway hold up to Me aswell anymore for having done so much researche about why someone is sadistic/serial killer etc. for being interested in extremes so the unknown/senslessness wouldn't be as prevelant.
It's just those movies where is something in it that keeps intrique anyway even tho it's very cold movie, that might actually be a big thing. It's about choosing partner and is very cold and streamlined movie to pick one when it's supposed to be essentially about love. Like making love efficient and then only true high emotion being on her sadistic tendencies. That juxtaposition might be why it works (worked) so very well + the shock it atleast used to be able to give. Usually serial killer were when it came out in 99 Still in movies portrayed as these shaggy/weard loonies and not calculating whoevers. It was around the time that was Just changing. Like Se7en in 97. Which look/feel many thrillers still tries to copy (even the newest Batman is basically not as harsh Se7en with Saw elements).
Like many, my friend had a bootleg copy on the Blair Witch Project on VHS before anybody had ever heard about it and we all thought it was the real deal.
Blair Witch had me shook AF. I was in middle school watched in the theatre
