I'm pretty sure I couldn't do 4 months of darkness. I live in the North East of the US, and get slightly down when we turn our clocks back, and it's dark at 4:30. But one year, I tracked the sunrise/sunset times for a year, and that actually helped my mindset. For every day after December 21, when I start to see the sun 'come back' it helps me.
    Enjoy your polar nights. 😀

Pick up thermal tops and socks in Primark ! And a good winter coat, thats waterproof and windproof and that's long enough to come down past your bum ,is essential to keeping warm ,Brands like super dry or regatta are great for the type of climate in the UK and Ireland.
M&M direct is a great website for boots ,coats and jackets for a really good price too😁👌

If I recall correctly you didn’t visit Portugal last winter? I think making sure to spend a week or ten days there in the middle of the Polar night would really help with winter health. Pills can help but not really replace the benefit you get from actual sunshine!

Hello Cecilia!! The Aurora in the far north location of Svalbard is AMAZING. So beautiful!! We recently visited Fairbanks, Alaska to see the Northern Lights. What your video shows of them from Svalbard is MUCH better than what we were able to see. THANK YOU for sharing this with us!! Wishing you, Christopher and Grim all the best. We are enjoying your videos VERY MUCH :) I find your life in Svalbard such an adventure... amazing and beautiful!!!

Very interesting vid, I am always interested to see what day to day life is like where you live, even the mundane errands. Glad to hear that your Vitamin D levels are excellent and that you are prepping for the Polar Nights. It’s always good to do a blood panel and wellness check every year if you can. The “white coat hypertension” that Christoffer experienced is not uncommon - my husband is the same, he doesn’t feel comfortable in hospital situations. Check his BP when he is outside of hospital and it’s perfect! Wonderful to hear he is ok after doing the home monitoring. Much love to you all from CA, USA❤

I'm so jealous hearing how accessible the heathcare is. In MN is the U.S., with my healthcare plan, it costs a minimum of $60 to go to the Dr. And to get my vitamin D tested is an extra cost (about $20).
Glad to hear you all are in good health!

Michelle Reed is a UA-camr in Texas who has chronicled her experience of going off of hormonal birth control and dealing with acne. It's taking her a long time to have regular periods again. I've followed you for several years & don't recall you mentioning the use of light boxes as I see mentioned in another comment. SAD may very well be an evolutionary adaption for humans to slow down so they would need less food during a period it was less available.

I watch a few Norwegian and Swedish channels and try to pick up some words in between their speaking English.

Cecilia, my daughter is a nurse here in United States, and she tells me that it’s not uncommon for people here to have occasional vitamin D deficiency. I personally was prescribed on two different occasions, vitamin D pills. You’re not supposed to take them for long periods of time. Usually it’s one pill per week for a period of two months. Glad to hear that your test came out good!

I live in southern California and your vitamin D is higher than mine! I take 10,000 µg of vitamin D a day just to get into the low 50s. Our range is a little different, normal is considered 30 to 100. I’m a colder weather girl, though, so I am inside in the air conditioning nine months of the year. Getting ready to move to the snow! Thank you for another lovely video. Love you guys! Kiss for Grim.

I hope you read this and respond. Cecile, you should for this winter do a few things. 1) Go bck and work part time-this is good for mental health, 2) Go to the gym more often which is good for mental and physical health and 3) Maybe go again on vacation to portugal mid winter- that seems to help you.

I really enjoy your videos! My maternal grandmother was born in Oslo way back in 1888 and came to America in 1912. I have 3rd cousins living near Lillehammer that I've been in touch with the last few years, and hope to visit them in the next year or two. Watching your videos gives me a glimpse of what Nordic life is like! I'd love to visit Svalbard during my trip, probably during the summer, just to experience a true polar day...the furthest North I've traveled during the solstice is Elgin, Scotland, where it was "dusk" at about 2 am, with the sun rising again around 4 am...I would think that it is much brighter than that in Svalbard during the solstice...

As one who lives in CA, these late fall, winter nights, the darkness at 5 pm, I'm so ready to good night world......
Spring and summer, as a night owl, I struggle going to sleep, staying asleep or really falling asleep, truly think I make up my 💤 in the winter. During these times, if it were up to me, I could sleep naturally from 3 am -10 am.
I can't even imagine 24 sunlight and also pitch blackness....I definitely would like to experience both, what time of year can a tourist experience both?
