  • On March 11th, 2013, The Clone Wars was cancelled, leaving many of its stories untold, and their futures uncertain. In spite of this, Dave Filoni and Lucasfilm Animation endeavored to deliver as many of those stories as possible, even up to the recent final season of the show. This is the conclusion of the 12 year story of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

I always took the Jesse helmet scene to symbolise the death of the republic, covered in the blood of good men. With the birth of an evil empire in its wake.

The Venator does that as well. A symbol of the republic ripped apart from the inside by a Sith (specifically destroying the part for stability and to change course) and the poor people who died in its wake and those that made it out

It’s also a great parallel to the end of rotj when all of the storm trooper helmets are similarly propped on spears.
The track the plays at the end of rotj is called victory and celebration, the one that plays at the end of tcw is called victory and death which leads me to believe that this was an intentional parallel.

@@ArTorrPresentshey. I watched your video essays about clone wars back in the day and I loved them. I wanted to ask you, have you by change checked out sheevtalks' videos about clone wars not holding up. He brings up some good points, especially about the handling of characters, but I feel like he mostly just digresses a lot about minute details that don't really damage the show. You're the guy who made the best videos defending the clone wars I have ever watched, so I simply wanted to know your opinion about that. I think you having a discussion with sheev about the show would be interesting to hear

One of the biggest takeaways for me from the final scene was the intentional inclusion of an Anakins eyes showing through the Vader mask, as if it was to show anakin still lived on inside that suit, remembering all the things he and Ahsoka had been through, and it shows that he still held onto it even after all those years

This documentary series was absolutely incredible. I've always loved this show and held it in higher regard than any Star Wars project or TV show I've ever seen, but I feel like I've never truly understood it, and appreciated it, more than after watching this series. This might as well have been professionally made with how well done it was and I am very happy that I found this series and your channel.
This show's been such an important part of my life. It's been a source of strength and inspiration, an escape when I needed an escape, and a tool to enhance many of the friendships I've had over the years. The characters and stories in this series make up the majority of my favorites not just in Star Wars, but for all time, and I thank George Lucas, Dave Filoni, and the cast and crew of Star Wars the Clone Wars for making me the person that I am today.

32:45 I have a theory that George and Dave had written the stories, but when D/LF became what it did then, they hadn't finished *The Clone Wars* and split the stories into *The Bad Batch, Rebels* and other things because there were other priorities, and they hadn't given it that much thought. After deciding to complete it, Dave may have variated *The Bad Batch* even more.

You took me on one of the greatest rides I've ever been on. This show is the reason I am who I am, I haven't ever been able to put into words how much this show impacted me as a kid and now as a young adult, but you did. You took the time to make all of this. I will admit, this was just a recommended video for me (it actually recommended part 2 first! I started from one though) but after I was done, I was ready to scroll down and give my subscription to a guy with 100k+ subs because THAT is the level of work and quality that I saw. So when I saw you only had 338 subscribers? I was blown away and knew I had to say SOMETHING about this.
You know, this may sound cheesy, but when you explained about your life (in the latter part of this video) and how you watched these as a kid that went to a Christian Private school, then your beliefs were challenged in a public school (run-on sentence, my bad), that part gave me chills. No exaggeration, that exact scenario happened to me. I know that a little hard to believe and I myself had to double-take when watching your video. As I watch this show and think about my morals and how I look critically at things, I begin to see that it's all because of this show.
This is getting a bit long and personal for a public youtube comment, so ill put my discord tag here: Electro_#2665 I'd love to talk more with you about this show and life in general (it's a little mind-blowing to hear someone describe your exact life as theirs, especially when you feel like no one could ever understand)
All and all, This was a phenomenal 3 part video Essay and I hope you plan to continue your creative path, you have huge potential. You've got a Sub, Bell, likes, and Shares from me.

Anakin, "feels," Ahsoka's presence in the first Walkabout episode, like she feels his. It's an inseparable bond they have formed, through the Force, over the course of their time together.
And, it's something I just realized explains the appearance of Ahsoka's, "Spirit Animal," Maori, in the season finale, flying over Vader's head when he finds Ahsoka's lightsaber amongst the wreckage of the Jedi Cruiser she was last known to have been aboard, as far as he knew, anyway.
Undoubtedly he would have been able to sense her presence through the Force, particularly when he picked up her lightsaber.
So, to effectively mask that connection Maori is shown flying overhead, to account for any connections he may have been sensing in that moment.
Allowing him to accept the possibility that she had been killed in the crash, despite still being able to feel her through the Force.
It makes perfect sense. (pun not intended lol)
If he has not seen the Owl circling above, he would have almost certainly been unable to accept the possibility that she had died, because he would be struggling against still being able to sense her, espescially when touching her lightsaber.
Maori gives that internal, "conflict," a resolution.
At least enough for him to walk away at that moment, and leave the wreckage behind without any further investigation into her fate.
    (Absolutely brilliant. 👍)

I'd like a Clone Wars season made exclusively of the scrapped arcs that involve the villains:
-The Bounty Hunter Arc with Boba Fett & Cad Bane
-The Ventress Arc involving Asajj & Quinlan Vos
-The Son of Dathomir Arc (This one I'd love to see the most because Maul gets to interact with both Grievous & Dooku; the Sith who replaced him as his master's apprentice)
The main reason why I'd like to see these arcs specifically (aside from focusing primarily on the series villains) is because they fill in important information regarding the villains. It explains how Cade Bane played a part in making Boba the bounty hunter he is, it gives closure to Ventress's story arc throughout the series, it explains what happened to Maul in between the seasons of 5 & 7 and much more.

just finished your 3 part series, this documentary series is truly a work of art. You’ve put into words what we were all feeling about the clone wars. This part in particular made me emotional because it serves as a reminder to me that the clone wars is more than just a tv show, it’s my childhood. I grew up alongside ahsoka. We made the same mistakes at the same time and age, and by the time we were both young adults, we had grown into our own individuals.
Like ahsoka growing up had been about the jedi order, mine had been about my religion and the church. I preached in many different high schools, and had done my work to spread the Bible in a few different countries. I was held to a high regard in my church. Then things started to happen where I felt betrayed and hurt by my church and the leaders I had looked up to. My faith began to be seriously challenged, keeping it alive became increasingly difficult, and sadly ended up having to leave it behind. I had seen many people fall away from the faith, but their attitudes in doing so where out of rebellious motivations. My experience was much like ahsokas when walking away from the Jedi temple for the last time. Righteous, but still sad and hurt by what she must leave behind.
Thank you for putting this all together, I have a much deeper appreciation of the show because of it!

Patience more than any, for when the time had come, these same fans became a family that fought together for so many years and never stopped hoping and believing that the show could get it's well deserved finale by the hands of Dave. These are the values Clone Wars taught us and there is a bright future ahead of our beloved franchise. May the force be with all of us my friends.

But it was the most thought-provoking for me - giving us a rare glimpse into the "normal people" on Coruscant. It also has appropriate connections to the Ahsoka novel.

Seeing Rex’s tear was great. It was amazing at solidifying how much he grew to care for Ashoka enough to kill his own brothers, and you could see how much to hurt him. The clones not being in control of their actions was a great excuse for them to try not to kill. The only other show that I can remember did something like this with that much of an emotional impact was season 3 of daredevil where Matt is pushed to his absolute breaking point, or with Batman in under the red hood where Batman admits that if he started killing, he wouldn’t be able to stop because of how broken he is. With Matt and the bat, their reasons for choosing not to kill is a part of who they are, and it would destroy them personally if they went through with it. It would break everything they are and stand for, and it works so much better than the “it will make you just like them” argument that is equivalent to bulldozing a rotting corpse of a dead horse. Don’t make the reasoning come from something that arbitrary in a story, but make it something that is extremely important to who the character is

Everything you have said is something that I've been saying to myself for the better part of 6 or 7 years. I also grew up watching the clone wars, but soon began to stop. It kind of became..shameful for me, because of all the bullying that I received from my love of star wars in general. I was "reintroduced" to it once it was put back on Netflix and honestly, I didn't realize I had never seen season 4 or 5 until I got to that point in my rewatch, and so in a way I was experiencing a whole new show. From that point on I decided to really embrace my love for Star Wars and, more specifically, the Clone Wars.
In doing that, I came to many of the same conclusions that you did. The takeover of the Star Wars License by Disney and it's subsequent suppression of anything regarding the prequels, to the tragedy of the Clones themselves. If the combination of the Prequels and the Original trilogies is the Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker - his rise, fall, and eventual redemption, then in many ways the Clone Wars is the Tragedy of the Clones. There is so much darkness and heartache surrounding their entire existence and while they had plenty of good personal stories in which they weren't simply a background to be used in action sequences, I think they would have better been explored in the final 3 seasons, but to finally see someone else recognize their "tragedy" is super exciting and makes me feel less insane when I think about the show. Overall you did what I've been looking for - a creator who takes the time to understand that the Clone Wars is more than just a kid show and to recognize the fact that there is so much more beneath the surface, and you took the time to do that, to deconstruct it's characters, scores, themes, and even the least-liked episodes that many only do for big blockbuster movies or cape flicks. (I stand by you in saying that D-Squad does not deserve all of it's hate)
So, thank you. Thank you for making this video series. I'm a 20 year old Sophmore in College waiting to move back to school, and so it was no issue to absolutely body this series in one day. Here's a subscription, I'll be sure to watch every other one of your videos when I get the chance!
P.S - The Anakin vs. Dooku fight scene at the end of the SW: TCW Movie on Tatooine is criminally underrated and on top of being Sir Christopher Lees last performance as Count Dooku, has a disgustingly good score that companies an important scene in the movie

Listening to your reaction about Clone Wars being cancelled reminds me of how I felt in the mid eighties when I found out that Return of the Jedi would be the "last" Star Wars movie. Previous to that, Lucas had said that he planned on making nine or twelve movies. I had never known a world without Star Wars, and I thought it would be around forever. It was an existential crisis lol
Nowadays I'm still constantly amazed that, despite some highs and lows, Star Wars is alive and vibrant with so many different branches. I just watched the end of Clone Wars and the beginning of Bad Batch, and they really stand up as some of the best Star Wars. I can only imagine what little me would have thought if I could have seen a glimpse of this back in the dark days when there was no Star Wars.

"The way of the Dark Side is to never move on."
I disagree. Sidious, the most powerful Sith to ever live, moved on as easily as the wind. He disposed of everyone ever connected to him with inhuman ease. He was one of if not THE most attuned to the Dark Side, and yet he "moved on" so often he could be described as being in a constant state of "moving on." First he had Plagueis, then he disposed of Plagueis and replaced him with Dooku. Then he disposed of Dooku and replaced him with Anakin.
The way of the Dark Side is not to never move on, that is the trap that the weaker adherents inevitably fall into. The true Way of the Dark Side is to never care at all, to never invest any emotion into your companions and those close to you and instead use them to further your own goals and ensure your own ascension.

You mentioned how much this series has inspired you as I am sure it has inspired so many other people as well, especially those who have taken the time to sit down and watch through this entire series. This is all well and good but I really wanted to tell you how much you have inspired me through this video. The hard work you put into constructing this series really shows and i felt extremely moved and found my self emotional by the end of it. Not only because of the somber ending of the show, but the deep and meaningful connection that you were vulnerable to share. Something which I also felt as you described it. I felt drawn to the stories you told growing up and how you used the lessons of the clone wars throughout it. It helped me realize that I too was shaped by this show in a similar way that I had not seen before. But I was really inspired by how much work you put into something that you were so passionate about. The passion is so evident in every word and that is something that is so lacking in the world and especially on social media. While sharing this short story at the end may not have seemed like a big deal (obviously I have no idea) it was a big deal for me because I have never been able to articulate how much this show ahs done for me and seeing it put to words so well by you moved me.
I was much younger when this show came out and watched it more for the lazer and flashy “fun”. For me growing up this show was more of a fun cartoon than anything else. In rewatching it in preparation for season 7 I began to see these themes but it was more a call back to my childhood. Watching this video has given me a new perspective on star wars that I was only beginning to grasp. I now see this series as more complex than I expected too at all and this is because of the amazing work you put into analyzing every aspect of the show. I’ve felt my love for the show draining especially with the poor quality of shows recently but this reminded me of why I fell in love with this show, and this style of storytelling.
Honestly I just wanted to tell you how much your video essay moved me, not because of the context you observed by the way you did it and the personality that was so evident throughout. You have inspired me and you deserve to hear that. I know this video is super old and you might not see this at all but I hope you hear this and know that the work you are doing is already doing what Dave Filoni has. Inspire people to examine the world critically, tell good stores, and be compassionate.
Ps. I tried to find you on Instagram to send this but the link isn’t working. I'm sure you know this already but what do I have to lose

This is the best summary of the clone wars themes I've ever seen. I had heard many of these ideas before, but hearing them together and hearing the new ideas that you shared is very impactful. Thank you for making these videos!

Hang on. So you're telling me that you're about 21, born in PA, grew up near Philly, went to a very small Christian (Quaker?) school, and immeasurably love Star Wars? Would you happen to be my long-lost twin?
Similarities to my life aside, thank you for putting this together. TCW was easily my all-time favorite show as a kid (my uncle would pirate S1 episodes onto DVDs for me to watch at home, and because his C's look like O's, when he wrote each episode's title on each disc I thought Rookies was actually titled Rockies for the longest time), and it had a profound impact on me even to this day, 13 years after I saw the movie in the theater. But I could never put it into words, could never fully express or understand why this show meant so much to me. Other UA-camrs like Full Fat Videos and Cosmonaut Variety Hour gave some voice to my sentiments, but you by far gave me the most compelling and exhaustive (in a good way) explanation for why I hold The Clone Wars in such high regard.
    Thank you.

I’ve come back to this video a while after I first watched it. I gotta say, you should definitely have more subs. Not as a pure popularity thing on the platform, but so more people not necessarily just Star Wars, mass effect, or whatever have you can see these things through such an analytical and depth lens. Many of the things you point out in these videos or ideas that I always had in my thoughts or even discussed with my peers multiple times. The sheer effort put into your videos really shows, and I think, regardless of the sub count, that the number of views per video I see on your channel really speaks for itself whether it be people coming back to rewatch, or even new people seeing your videos much past their upload date. Every time you upload, it’s a treat. I actually recently watched your bad batch video again, and I paid it much more mind as I’m transitioning out of the marine corps soon. Can’t wait for your newest videos, especially hopefully for mass effect 3 if you decide to make one as it would be a nice conclusion to that series.

When I first saw the videos I rolled my eyes. Three parts, each stretched out unnecessarily long to real in that ad money. I'm so happy I have it a chance. By the end of the first chapter I was captivated by your own storytelling and analysis. Bravo, great work. Looking forward to checking out your other videos.

I found you yesterday and have watched your clone wars videos. I have to say, thank you so much for changing my perspective. I never realised how deep the meanings were and I had goosebumps more often than not. Also, your editing is amazing. Thank you so much for making this video and making me fall in love with SWTCW all over again.

Currently cooped up on my couch due to a broken foot and stumbled across your videos. I am absolutely blown away with what you’ve created in these three videos. Firstly, they are so incredibly well done and the time and effort you’ve put into them is very obvious. Secondly, your takes on nearly everything are spot on, at least in my humble opinion. Your passion is fu€king awesome, dude. I really hope somehow, someway, Dave stumbles across your videos one day. It’s literally a beautiful love letter to his work. You got yourself a new subscriber. Absolute fabulous job.

Across 3 videos you've put into words a sentiment I've felt for over a decade. I could never explain to my friends or family why this series meant so much to me. An absolute privilege to have grown up with this show - and I'm glad for those only discovering it now when they can watch the whole show without waiting between seasons. Thank you!

What a great series about one of the, if not THE, greatest animated shows of all time.
I watched all three episodes back to back today and now I want to re-watch the entire TCW series.
It is documentaries like this that make me appreciate exactly what we have and are as Star Wars fans!

30:15 Did anyone else tear up here? I grew up on Star Wars and TCW was a big part of that. I remember watching it all the way through middle school. Heck, I appreciate TCW now as a college student than I did as a kid. In my eyes, Dave Filoni and others like him are the ones who deserve to carry George’s Legacy into the future. Not the corporate overlords at Disney, who would see our childhood love milked for every penny, until there is nothing left, only to discard it in the end.

This video filled me with emotions. I just finished Clone Wars the other day and during some episodes I even cried. Like when Anakin showed Ahsoka his team bearing her markings. It's been so long since I loved a series so much. These last seasons just cemented to me how great this story is. How much I love Ahsoka, Rex and Maul... I'm so grateful for your videos on this.
