Definitely. I have to remember when buying online to always look at the material, because I can't handle most polyester blends. Viscose is fine with me if it's a bamboo viscose, but my favorites are always cotton and silk.
100%!! I will not buy something that’s 100% polyester lol. It’s actually pretty helpful because it really limits what I buy, but particularly 90s and Y2K pieces are guilty of being terrible fabric😢
@@LadyCynthianameeee. i dont regulate heat very well. when i see more than 40% acrylic or polyester i know im gunna be a sweaty, overheated, overstimulated mess. especially if its a knit as opposed to a woven fabric. always makes me feel like my skin is burning. i used to think i just hated wearing clothes + layering but nope… just have an aversion to fully synthetic fabrics
To add to the fabric texture thingy, I also absolutely have to look at labels, but I also learned the hard way how to (not) care for woolen clothes... But also makes me care really well for the items, as I don't want to lose the nicest feeling ones!
I also have become super aware of fabrics and will not go for most things if they are not cotton/linen/viscose (depending) because I don't like the way it wears or feels. Plus breath-ability. I overheat so easily and so fast that I need fabrics that aren't going to make it worse. This was fun and cute!
I HATE polyester and avoid it at all costs, even blends. I wish I knew more about fabrics when I was younger and use my knowledge of it now to help curb my purchases bc I know certain fabric contents will not last. Thank you for helping others learn about this clothing aspect!
I love the idea of reusing older clothes in more contemporary ways. I love to sometimes even alter things slightly to get more use like changing a hemline or taking off sleeves to turn into tanks. We shouldn’t keep throwing our clothes (or even just donating over and over) just because it’s not on trend and try to make a closet that’s versatile and timeless. I love how ur video shows that. 🥰
totally agree with this!! I am so in favor of altering, updating, and mending whenever possible. I'm definitely not perfect but I'm always trying to maximize use:)
The lacy mint shirt is soo excellent. Sheer, mermaid adjacent… Especially with your hair! It would look adorable also with denim or browns I think so yes! Definitely a keeper.
I really appreciate you talking about fabrics! I hate polyester and when I'm trying to find something online but the fabric isn't listed that's my biggest pet peeve. Polyester is the most uncomfortable because you are essentially wrapping yourself in plastic. Your videos always inspire me to try different looks with things already in my closet!!
Things I love about you: Intelligent commentary Creativity Authentic style Its obvious you have your own personal style which is very rare now since everyone tends to follow a social media core aesthetic. Love it!
This is a great video idea, it feels like a smart inversion of the "haul" fast fashion vids where the thumbnail is them dumping out a huge box of plastic bags
I like that you talk about materials and like that many comments agree. As consumers we can, hopefully, change the industry to stop using materials that bad not only for environment but not comfortable to wear either, sometimes even can cause health issues
love this so much!! i feel like this is a peak sustainable fashion challenge - thrifting cool vintage stuff is fun and sustainable but it’s so hard to hold onto recently-out-of-trend pieces!!! thank you for the inspo and for setting a good example!
I really appreciate that you talk about the importance of fabric choice! Because it doesn’t matter how cute an item is, if it feels icky on the skin or will age terribly in terms of quality, it is not worth the fit.
you bouncing into transitions makes me think of The Sims or something and I love it. I am very on board with this series!! Fun to see what you do with each piece and gives inspiration for how to bring freshness to your older wardrobe items
Since getting more into sewing my own clothes, fabric content is always something i consider now when shopping, whether for fabric itself or clothes. No more plastic clothing for me!!
Once more I am in awe of your layering skills and styling creativity. I immediately felt the impulse to dive deep into my closet and experiment. It didn't happen because of the heat today, but it will! The last look was my favorite ❤
Material is SO relevant! When I thrift I am much more tactile than visual in how I choose items. It can be an incredible fit, in great condition, with solid construction, but if the material doesn't feel good on my hands that is a quick, confident 'Nope'.
you're absolutely so real and correct about that GD shirt knot I get so sad when I see a great shirt and it's ruined by this weird tie who decided this!?
I’m so happy my mum taught me from childhood how to tell fabrics apart and the quality. She took me thrifting so much as a kid, (out of necessity, we were poor) and I learned so many skills from her.
I so appreciate you taking about the fabrics! I remember in one video you talked about polyester getting smelly & that’s honestly been so helpful! I had noticed that about one of my shirts but didn’t realize why! You putting such emphasis on that has encouraged me to consider it more when I shop. Thank you!
The last look is giving garden gnome. Angela Benedict is allover fabric content, garment structure and finishings like seams, darts etc. And she is goth but softer goth which makes her even more endearing.
I would loveee to style that lacy top in a pastel princess style :D and omg yes to fabric texture because: 1) I didn't realized the reason why going out was so grating on my nerves was because I hated the textures of certain pieces. Now I take textures into account when styling and buying and it makes a sky of difference. 2) I'm trying to buy more "natural" fabrics so there's less microplastic released into the water source through washing 🥲 but alas linen/cotton clothes don't always fit the style I want
I love how much you talk about material! Because that is something that I really care about and look for when thrifting. (yes the knot detail on shirts in the 2010s is sooooooo ugly XD)
I completely agree about the fabric. I've been doing some thread up browsing lately and have forcibly talked myself out of several beautiful dresses because they were made of synthetics that I know would be ultimately too uncomfortable to wear. I can tolerate a blended fabric as a skirt and I don't mind a little stretch in trousers but on tops or dresses I simply can't wear a fabric that is stiff, itchy, or doesn't breathe so it gets stinky
omg I have this experience at the thrift store all the time haha, & I've definitely given in on occasion. But at this point I've learned enough to be more resistant lol!!
I couldn’t agree more with you I HATE when a cute simple shirt is ruined by a knot or those flappy triangles thingies to tie it into a knot😒 anyway love the concept of this video!!!
Autumnal garden witch is my absolute favorite! I've got to remember to pair a frilly blouse and boots with my lightweight overalls. That sounds perfect for a breezy but still warm early fall day.
viscose is definitely the worst of the 'natural' fibers (because is it truly natural after all it's been through?), and the best of the processed ones. it exists in a bizarro liminal space that I am kinda but not really here for
Fabric content is So important to me. I'm so excited whenever i find a linen or linen blend item. I now shop at a salvage store because it has better selection and prices than the small thrift stores in my area.
I'm sooooooooooooo onboard with you on materials!!! I am always drawn to cottons, linens, silks, anything natural based. Having a quality material means it looks nicer and can be kept soooo much longer. Please continue to drag polyester and viscose and rayon!!!🗣🗣🗣🗣
I watched the other thrifted mystery bag video today, so this was meant to be!! I really like how you styled these items, especially that floral blouse you were iffy about. I would love a thrift haul tho bc I keep seeing some gorgeous pieces that seem to be new!!! I’m kind of tired of people saying outfits need to be updated and trendy to be fashionable; I know that’s kind of the point of this video, but I feel like there’s so much versatility that comes with getting dressed when we are free of other people’s opinions and focus on what we like and how we feel. So I like that you give less trendy pieces a chance. (Not trying to act preachy, I have some bright coral-colored pieces that I struggle to style bc I don’t want to look like an early to mid 2000s mommy blogger as that’s just not my style)
The autumnal garden witch (such a cool name btw) outfit was my fave! I love those dark flower prints and you kinda made me excited about styling them in garden witchy way for fall.
I love this new video subject, I haven't seen anyone else do it! It's so creative, useful, and is a great way to show that trends are irrelevant. Anything can be styled. I loved the outfit with the plain grey tank! If i saw it on the rack I would've thought nothing of it, but you made it look super cool. Love these!
Autumnal garden witch for the win~!! I love that kind of sleeves so much. I think it's great that you are vocal about fabrics. I may not be too particular about how fabrics feel myself, but just being aware of what clothes are made of is a step in the right direction and something we should be discussing a lot more.
Material gurlz unite! Fabric is literally make or break! My rant cam would be about wendy from peter pan fashion / nightgown chic 😂i love the lacey blue shirt!
You made some impressive outfits with this box! I actually have a knotted top that I think I could style under a dress I have, thanks for the inspiration!
I am an expert at knowing if I'll like an item when thrifting just based on the fabric. Im autistic and quite a few fabrics totally overstimulate me. I have no time for things that aren't comfortable to wear!!
Thrift shopping is so much more sensory friendly in general for me - they're usually darker, quieter, there are more options, and the staff aren't trying to make you buy something!
Your outfits are just gorgeous, I can't even pick a favorite one!)) Regarding the fabrics, I kinda feel like I'm the only person in the world like this, but I honestly love most of the synthetic fabrics - they either do not bother me at all, or help me keep warm, as I'm always freezing... So probably all those pieces in the thrift stores are just waiting for me x))
aaah I'm late but I LOVE the video concept, when I saw the items I thought they were all ugly as hell and could never be turned into something cute but you did it! it's so inspiring to see, keep it up
The blazer look is really cute in my opinion!💜 If you wanted to make it more artsy you could accessorize it more or add colorful stockings! :) I dress super feminine so I'd probably just add more of the ribbons/bows elements haha.
Look 6!! I love. I'm with you on polyester. 🤮 I'm very heat sensitive -- it triggers migraines, no fun -- and l live in the south. It took me way too long to realize my cheap polyester clothes were contributing to my overheating problem!! Now I try to only bring natural fibers into my wardrobe whenever possible and it is truly making a huge difference in my life.
I once walked into a boutique next to my yoga studio because the clothes in the window were pretty cute. Everything was polyester and felt horrible. Fabric is SO important!!
Liz, i need to say that I am totally in awe of how pretty that illustration of yourself is!!! lol i've seen it a lot but I still need to press pause when it comes up cause it is so cute. loveddd this video (and also last week's!) I've been trying to style dresses over pants lately, using you as motivation to be weird in fashion lolll ily
Omg this is so sweet Ceci, thank you so much!! :’) so glad you enjoy that artwork hehe, & glad you’re enjoying the vids & hopefully getting some good inspo!! I support u and your dress over pants endeavors🫡
Yea! I completely agree about material quality. My favourite looks overall were the garden witch and the grey tank top! I need to try a garden witch look now!
Congrats on the Etsy shop! I feel you so much with the fabric rant, many polyester fabrics make my skin crawl just by looking at them 😅... Oh, and - fantastic styling video as always, I love these so much! It's so good to get inspo on how to style outdated items in a more current way.
One fashion youtuber who talks about material a lot is Daily Helen, her style is quite different from yours, Liz, but I LOOVE her advice on styling, especially for petite girlies! I too have become so picky with the material over the years (but viscose is actually one of my favs, I can wear it year-round and it's very easy to care for), I had a very pretty dress, but it was polyester and really unbreathable, and I searched for like 3 months for almost the same exact dress, but in viscose, to swap it ☠
Favorite piece and outfit was the long sleeve black floral. I too have sensory issues with fabric and have had to pass up some really cute things because the feel of it was so bad.
It's SUCH a shame that the thrift stores get inundated with clothing made from bad fabrics and are poorly made. For people who go to the thrift store for financial reasons, it makes finding long lasting clothes so much harder to find.
New subbie here. I found you from your seasonal analysis vid and thought you made some really great points. Thanks for the critical analysis you add to the conversation! Very cool🤘
I'm a vegan and my only options for fabric material in new clothes are mostly cotton and polyester. That's why I love thrifting. I can buy high quality material like silk or cashmere, without hurting any animal. :3
Trust me you are far from being alone regarding the material/sensory thing! There are materials that make my skin crawl just touching them in the thrift store. Even if the item is cute I wouldn't even dare try it on my body. Sadly over the years gotten more and more sensitive to materials, have even had to give away much loved vintage items. So basically : it probably doesn't get better from here so best stick to the comfiest materials possible 😅
Now I know better and avoid polyester when buying clothes but I still have leftover pieces. They can kinda work when you layer underneath something made from nice material. I still need to sell some that were bought by younger me and don't feel like current me at all
Only recently I started to give more importance to fabric, because I noticed that the clothes I was donating were usually made of polyester or had some uncomfortable fabric. Which makes me sad, since I don't want to own those clothes because of the fabric feeling, so I imagine someone else wouldn't want them either, but throwing them into the trash would be even worse. Also I noticed that polyester clothing tends to look older/more used and feel icky more quickly than natural fabrics. I do usually enjoy viscose/rayon though, at least in the clothes that I own, since they're breathable and feel nice.
just discovered your channel 2 days ago and binged like half of your videos 💖💖 also, i love this kind of video, u should definitely do more of them ( maybe with pants too 😳). youre an absolute cutie pie. art, fashion are my top interests as well and i also just finished my psych degree lol so your channel is perfect. i was wondering, how did you get started with graphic design? i took a very long hiatus from art and was thinking about trying to do some stuff digitally and even selling it. thank u!!
omg this is so sweet, I'm so glad you're enjoying my channel!! :') I've sort of kept up my art and drawing throughout my life, but for graphic design I actually spent several months learning Adobe Illustrator via youtube and skillshare and coming up with projects for myself and trying to execute them to build my portfolio!
I unabashedly love the ice blue shirt. But I'm with you on polyester. I take stimulants for my ADHD, and menopause is not that far off for me, so I sweat a lot. Polyester just feels gross when I'm sweaty. I almost never wear it from May to October, and I'm phasing it out more generally.
fabric is totally relevant to me which is why I don't buy fast fashion and one of many reasons I prefer to thrift and buy secondhand because I prefer good quality fabrics but I am on a budget! I will save up to buy a quality piece of clothing rather than a cheap piece of crap!
fabric texture is supremely important to me THANK YOU for addressing that omg
so glad this is resonating omg, it is the biggest factor for me in purchasing decisions!!
Definitely. I have to remember when buying online to always look at the material, because I can't handle most polyester blends. Viscose is fine with me if it's a bamboo viscose, but my favorites are always cotton and silk.

This is a polyester snark channel and I love it 😈😈😈 (also blue lacy shirt was a sleeper hit!!!)
Polyester is the literal worst you cannot wear it outside without overheating or overcooling I stg
hahaha despite owning soooome polyester (usually just for layering,) I love to be a hater.
Also sleeper hit is the perfect description hahah

totally mermaid-y!! currently I'm planning on hanging on to it, we'll see if it gets wear despite the fabric feel hahah

Me having autism (includes sensory disorder for me) and loving fashion … texture is huge!!!

Since getting more into sewing my own clothes, fabric content is always something i consider now when shopping, whether for fabric itself or clothes. No more plastic clothing for me!!
i am SO thankful i finally found someone who discusses fabric texture instead of just calling everything cute and soft!! so please keep being you
Once more I am in awe of your layering skills and styling creativity. I immediately felt the impulse to dive deep into my closet and experiment. It didn't happen because of the heat today, but it will! The last look was my favorite ❤
Thank you so much😀 Hope you have fun experimenting soon hehe
I was so amazed how adding the neck scarf changed outfit 5! It was my least favorite but the scarf and bold earrings turned it around.
Material is SO relevant! When I thrift I am much more tactile than visual in how I choose items. It can be an incredible fit, in great condition, with solid construction, but if the material doesn't feel good on my hands that is a quick, confident 'Nope'.
you're absolutely so real and correct about that GD shirt knot

i love that your cat joined in this video, they're so cute!!
hehe she's the real star!!

Love your creativity! The lacy top is so pretty, it's like a slightly more wearable version of the lingerie as outerwear trend.
thank you!! & ooh yes totally
The all in one sleeve of the pink tee looks so good under the spaghetti strap dress! Honestly changing my mind about tees under dresses 👀
omg I love tees under dresses so I am honored 👀
I so appreciate you taking about the fabrics! I remember in one video you talked about polyester getting smelly & that’s honestly been so helpful! I had noticed that about one of my shirts but didn’t realize why!
You putting such emphasis on that has encouraged me to consider it more when I shop. Thank you!

Material is super important, I like that you talk about it
I'm so glad!!
It is truly the number one factor in my purchasing decisions!! Very glad it resonates haha
I would loveee to style that lacy top in a pastel princess style :D
and omg yes to fabric texture because:
1) I didn't realized the reason why going out was so grating on my nerves was because I hated the textures of certain pieces. Now I take textures into account when styling and buying and it makes a sky of difference.
2) I'm trying to buy more "natural" fabrics so there's less microplastic released into the water source through washing 🥲 but alas linen/cotton clothes don't always fit the style I want

Autumnal garden witch is my absolute favorite! I've got to remember to pair a frilly blouse and boots with my lightweight overalls. That sounds perfect for a breezy but still warm early fall day.

I loooove these kinds of videos, styling challenges are always 🔥🔥🔥
I always love a challenge!!!
These videos are fun. Also, here for cat involvement. Very calming.
Fabric content is So important to me. I'm so excited whenever i find a linen or linen blend item. I now shop at a salvage store because it has better selection and prices than the small thrift stores in my area.

My favorite was the black floral top and overalls. It was a little dark cottage core and a little garden witch. Great job.
I actually have a knotted top that I think I could style under a dress I have, thanks for the inspiration!
hahah thank you so much!! So glad you got some inspo
omg i hate that sewn in knot too!! i immediately wanna crop it lol :P
I love the fact that you mention material! I always consider it when I'm deciding whether to purchase an item or not-- polyester is a total no
I am an expert at knowing if I'll like an item when thrifting just based on the fabric. Im autistic and quite a few fabrics totally overstimulate me. I have no time for things that aren't comfortable to wear!!
Thrift shopping is so much more sensory friendly in general for me - they're usually darker, quieter, there are more options, and the staff aren't trying to make you buy something!
YES please keep talking about the fabric!! I always look at the material too, polyester haters unite
Fabric is Super important, number one reason for me for choosing anything.
You are so creative :)
Your outfits are just gorgeous, I can't even pick a favorite one!))

Love love these types of videos!! Hope you keep them as a series
Look 3 is my fave!!!! Adding baseball cap, tote bag and sneakers! Genius!
thank you!! my go-to casual-ify strategy hehe
I once walked into a boutique next to my yoga studio because the clothes in the window were pretty cute. Everything was polyester and felt horrible. Fabric is SO important!!
look 6 is so amazingly 90's movie witch!
My dream fall aesthetic!!!
Every outfit is so chef’s kissssss
Love this idea! Definitely inspires me to try new outfit combos in my wardrobe
yay!! glad you got some inspo:))
The materials of clothes are super important to me, too.
Okay, wow, tshirt under button up dress.. damn, you're INSPIRED. I'm so excited to use this, so sad I hadn't thought of it before!
Your are so creative, it's so impressive that you could make this outdated clothes look GOOD !!
ADORE look #6 ahhh!!!!! the colors, the boots, the shirt work perfectly together ah 🖤🖤🖤
Liz, i need to say that I am totally in awe of how pretty that illustration of yourself is!!! lol i've seen it a lot but I still need to press pause when it comes up cause it is so cute. loveddd this video (and also last week's!) Yea! I completely agree about material quality.
My favourite looks overall were the garden witch and the grey tank top! I need to try a garden witch look now!
garden witch may be the look of fall 2023 for me I fear👀
Congrats on the Etsy shop! I feel you so much with the fabric rant, many polyester fabrics make my skin crawl just by looking at them 😅... Oh, and - fantastic styling video as always, I love these so much! It's so good to get inspo on how to style outdated items in a more current way.
Look 6, yeeeesssss. The season of the witch becomes you!
*season of the witch by donovan starts playing*
omg why do i love your styling so much! just found ur channel and subbed.
these are all soooo good but esp 2 and 4!!! impressed and inspired as always
I love your ideas! I loved the red boot/black overalls look -very
One fashion youtuber who talks about material a lot is Daily Helen, her style is quite different from yours, Liz, but I LOOVE her advice on styling, especially for petite girlies! Omg yes I love Daily Helen!!! Her style is so great & I agree she has such good tips on making quality purchases
Favorite piece and outfit was the long sleeve black floral. I too have sensory issues with fabric and have had to pass up some really cute things because the feel of it was so bad.
I think the floral blouse could also be styled in a whimsygoth way
totally agree!!!
Girl I had no faith for any of these items but you’re a genious
Hahaha thank you sm 🙏🏻
You did a great job with all of the pieces! I really liked all of them❣️
My favourit piece is the mint shirt and my favourite outfit is the last one.
look 1 is sooo cute!
It's SUCH a shame that the thrift stores get inundated with clothing made from bad fabrics and are poorly made. For people who go to the thrift store for financial reasons, it makes finding long lasting clothes so much harder to find.
Material is most important, if something is itchy or feels weird then I feel weird lol
New subbie here. I found you from your seasonal analysis vid and thought you made some really great points. Thanks for the critical analysis you add to the conversation! Very cool🤘
love love love every outfit!!!
thank you so much!!
I'm a vegan and my only options for fabric material in new clothes are mostly cotton and polyester. That's why I love thrifting. I can buy high quality material like silk or cashmere, without hurting any animal. :3
you should request more from sponsors if you start the sponsor plug with a shot of your cat.
LMAO going to factor this in from now on✍️✍️
I haaaaate it when cute stuff out of polyester. 😂😅 i always Look for Natural Materials 🎉❤ Love your Content 😊
The headband!!! slay!!!!!!
Omg thank you I’m so excited to wear it
I ❤ these, especially Look 6!😊
Trust me you are far from being alone regarding the material/sensory thing! There are materials that make my skin crawl just touching them in the thrift store. Even if the item is cute I wouldn't even dare try it on my body. Sadly over the years gotten more and more sensitive to materials, have even had to give away much loved vintage items. So basically : it probably doesn't get better from here so best stick to the comfiest materials possible 😅
That blue top is so cute - would look so great with those scandi style blue pyjama bottoms and sneakers 😊
ooo I love this vision
o[ooooh I love how you styled the last one!! that was so cute with the hat
thank you!!! one of my faves hehe
Now I know better and avoid polyester when buying clothes but I still have leftover pieces. They can kinda work when you layer underneath something made from nice material. I still need to sell some that were bought by younger me and don't feel like current me at all
Ah! The shirt I'm wearing right now has that knot detail!
girl this is my favorite series!!! I needed this!
I am knot down with that style either! 😆
just discovered your channel 2 days ago and binged like half of your videos 💖💖 also, i love this kind of video, u should definitely do more of them ( maybe with pants too 😳). youre an absolute cutie pie. art, fashion are my top interests as well and i also just finished my psych degree lol so your channel is perfect. i was wondering, how did you get started with graphic design? i took a very long hiatus from art and was thinking about trying to do some stuff digitally and even selling it. thank u!!
omg this is so sweet, I'm so glad you're enjoying my channel!! :')
I've sort of kept up my art and drawing throughout my life, but for graphic design I actually spent several months learning Adobe Illustrator via youtube and skillshare and coming up with projects for myself and trying to execute them to build my portfolio!
I love it too!!! hopefully it is still wearable for me despite being some degree of synthetic haha bc yeah synthetics like polyester are not it!!
I've also noticed that I tend to avoid my polyester clothes
fabric is totally relevant to me which is why I don't buy fast fashion and one of many reasons I prefer to thrift and buy secondhand because I prefer good quality fabrics but I am on a budget! I will save up to buy a quality piece of clothing rather than a cheap piece of crap!
Your cat is SO CUTE :3
