You could say when it comes to Live Action X-Men Films so far there looks like there is a Phoenix Curse where anytime they dive into The Phoenix Character in Film it is destined to go up in flames...pun intended...I feel the only right way to break that Curse is by doing a Ready Player One "The Oasis" CGI style type of X-Men Films....just saying that type of CGI world is 100% perfect for all Comic book Films in story telling and looking good

This was supposed to be a two part movie. The first part explained how Jean was able to use the phoenix in X-men apocalypse and how she became fully possessed by the Phoenix. It introduced the alien Shi'ar leader Lilandra(Chastain) and the Skrull. It reintroduced the Hellfire club. The 2nd movie jean is corrupted by the Hellfire club becomes Dark Phoenix ends up saving the x-men and earth.

So they had to make their movies different enough. Honestly, the aliens in this still came across like Skrull and none of the other options these could be. The people that have had the ownership of the Phoenix Force for the majority of the last 20,000 years in the comics do not shapeshift or mimic. They have hair made out of feathers and some times wings and/or "body hair" that is feathers. They, the Skrull, and many other peoples where both come from worship the Phoenix and believe they are descendants of it. Imagine if King Kong was real and countries were fighting over who gets to keep him. But then most people, not all, also developed religions around believing all of Humanity is descended from King Kong. That's the situation where the Phoenix Force comes from. Not everyone believes they are descended from it. But many faiths do. And there is nothing more awesome and powerful then having the Phoenix just to show off how cool your Empire is.
@@imnottwelve1126 there are plenty of skrull that copy powers in comics. Hell Elektra fought a copy of herself, one that had wolverine and cyclops and then another with colossus powers. Also the shiar empire are the ones that should’ve been in this storyline anyway.
Something about opening the video with “We have Covid” seems so relatable. We haven’t made a reaction video because we also got sick. And we are vaccinated so it wasn’t too bad. We live in Florida too soooo, yeah! Hope you guys get better soon. Lots of water!!!!
Sorry to hear about the covid, hope you guys bounce back. So, my final long X-Men fan rant for the final FoX-Men movie: What, an absolute dud of a movie, and ending to the main franchise. It both bombed critically and financially, what makes it worse was the said reshoots that ballooned the budget, and then the several delays it had, the main problem was the Fox buyout, which the company at time was like "Well, not out problem any more." After the Bryan Singer situation started, the directors chair had to be filled, now by constant X-Men screenwriter, and man who constantly fails upwards, Simon Kinberg. His first official movie he directed (besides the Fant4stick reshoots... Which you can easily tell) is kinda so basic in direction, that I'm surprised he got to direct more things with a bigger budget afterwards, like The 355 (which is/did WAY worse). This reminds me of David S Goyers filmography trajectory, so/so writer, to not a very good director. Fox initially had a plan to redo The Dark Phoenix Saga, but closer to the source material. They wanted it to be a two parter, bigger scale, actual known X-Men aliens, The Shi'Ar, and Skrulls... which fell apart, and what they do incorporate, doesn't exactly work. For one thing, it's established in both timelines that the Phoenix comes from Jean... Yet here, it also comes space? Those two can't really mix. The aliens, ohhh the aliens, the Fox X-Men series has stayed away from aliens for about 20 years, and then finally use them by dropping them in, and their sooooo booooooring. Like how do make Jessica Chastain so lame. This is the movie Jennifer Lawrence was finally free from the role, she doesn't have to wear the blue makeup anymore (which looks the cheapest it's ever looked). Man, this has the worst age gap yet, it's 1992 (get it, X-Men TAS debuted then), and no one has aged. I can't stop talking about it, it's so lazy, I'm so glad they can't do it again. Positives of the movie, McAvoy, Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult are giving it their all, the train scene is actually a good scene, even though they made Nightcrawler real blood thirsty...and Hans Zimmer's soundtrack help carry the movie. Final minor mutants/things who are bigger in everything else: Selene: She's an immortal vampire like mutant, here she's some eye twitching lady alongside dread lock dude. Dazzler: At least she looks exactly like she does in the comics, a disco queen who can turn sounds into light energy, and I'm glad Halston Sage got a big credit for 10 seconds of screen time lol Genosha: Magneto's compound, yeah, that's suppose the Mutant island city... What a far cry lol D'Bari: the alien race Dark Phoenix destroys in the comics, Jessica Chastain's character, Vuk (yeah, that's her name... And I don't think is ever said in the movie) is so minor, but yet instigates that original stories plot. (Huh, not that many characters in this to that section on.) Now, we wait for what Marvel does with them in live action, currently the animated series X-Men 97 is there first step into making mutant content... But I feel I have good faith that those movies will be constantly consistent and hopefully treat every major X-Men respectfully, in big or small ways.
I’ll bet you anything they bring over these XMen instead of making new ones. It’s already happening. I want the TRUE X-Men as much as anyone. I’m not convinced the MCU is going in the right direction. We’ll see what happens. I should ‘trust in Feige’ but these films have a lot of fans and it feels like Disney is going to compromise there.
@@DylanMadd This is honestly what worries me the most. Seeing these characters again would just reinforce their prior association with the overall shitshow that was the XCU (Fox-Verse). If Marvel goes through with it and brings them all back as mainstays, I don't know how I'd feel. I'd love McAvoy and Fassbender personally, but the rest are total misses.
Hope you guys feel better soon. Going into this film completely blind the other day for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it a lot. Hans Zimmer also killing it with the theme.

8:12 "Who the heck is this?" That is Dazzler, one of my personal favorite Mutants/X-Men. She has the power to absorb sound and transfer it into light which she can then use as anything from special effects for her concerts to energy blasts. In the comics, she's a disco/pop star as well as a member of the X-Men. Also, she's powerful enough to withstand the power of Black Bolt's voice and also turn it into immense amounts of light energy. Basically, her power set is super unique and versatile, and I think she deserves more than just a cameo
I think this movie is a study in character assassination. Everyone hates Charles for being controlling. Beast wants nothing more than to kill one of his students. Mystique is the heroic leader of the X-men instead of Cyclops. Nightcrawler being a bloodthirsty monster. I think the only character that wasn't completely changed by this movie was Magneto, and that's due in part to Michael Fassbender being great as always.
To be fair, Charles has been criticised for similar things in the comics before. In the comics it is really explored that Charles has his own downfalls, one of which is his inability to admit he was wrong in his decisions (iirc). But yeah, 100% agree that the handling of Beast was character assassination, alongside Nightcrawler and (once again) Cyclops.
@@MattRowland I agree. Grief can become a powerfully destructive force, and, for me, quite relatable how it nearly destroys both Charles and Hank. I think the scene in the kitchen with those two was both disturbing and very well done. Also, I like seeing the new Nightcrawler unleashed!
Oh man. I’m so sorry you guys got the COVID. I like the dynamic of one having seen a movie and getting the reaction of someone who hasn’t. The insight and factions you give are amazing. As others have likely already stated, this was originally supposed to be a 2-part film covering both the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix storylines. Disney and Fox were already having secret discussions behind closed doors regarding their potential buyout of the latter. After having previously rights-swapped some content for GOTG2 and Deadpool, as well as allowing Fox to develop the Legion TV series for FX and co-producing the Gifted TV directly series for Fox, both were building a relationship on good terms with one another. Leading up to the purchase, Disney requested to have the Skrulls, the original aliens of the film, removed, so they could be used in Captain Marvel and wanted to close out the series entirely so they could that much more quickly move the characters over to the MCU. Originally the movie was to have a giant battle sequence between teams in space, but Disney found it to be too similar to the Civil War airport sequence and content from their upcoming Captain Marvel film and had them scrap it. The last 40 minutes of the film was completely re-written and re-shot. Much of the production crew on the movie also left after the initial filming was completed and did not return for reshoots, seeking out new areas of employment knowing that Disney would ultimately lay off much of them once the sale of Fox was completed. So a lot of the new scenes and the final edited version of the film were completed by people unrelated to those involved when it had started production. It became somewhat a scab job to sew up all the pieces and just get a finished product ready that would be presentable. Also, after several years of not having released a female-centric superhero movie in the MCU, DC and Warner Bros had beaten Disney to the punch with Wonder Woman and much critical acclaim. Not wanting to be seen as late to the party a second time around with a female-driven X-Men film also hitting theaters before the MCU, Disney had the movie's release delayed yet again until after Captain Marvel was released.
Bravo to your editor! Those little bits of The Force Awakens at the beginning and Spider-Man: No Way Home during the train scene (while also changing the lighting to fit the tone of the scene) were brilliant!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Honestly Dark Phoenix is the perfect movie to be reacting when you have COVID. There's just so much stupid shit going on there that you can just die in front of the camera and it'll still look like you're watching cuz that's the face you'll be doing while watching this movie
Wasn't expecting Jenn to side with that quote. Everyone hated that quote cause woman was made from men & I never had an issue with the name. Yes Sophie is married to Joe Jonas and has a daughter too. At this point Jennifer who played Mystic was over playing the character so she was okay that her character died
Fans were done with her too. She kept complaining over something sge signed up for. The reason her character started wearing a suit is cuz she was sick of the several hours in the makeup chair then decided "forget the fans, this character ain't worth it"
Still annoys me how they have a movie where multiple characters want to kill Jean for killing Mystique, yet they didn't use Nightcrawler. Let alone still ever acknowledge in the movies that he is her son, and would have been a more interesting character to see struggling with the decision of keeping his usual Catholic outlook of "forgiveness & seeing the good in everyone", or give into revenge against the person who killed his mother.
And the fact that the Original 3rd Act was completly cut out is a crime against humanity. Jean Gray sacrificing herself to save the earth and her family from the Skrulls invasion, was a way more emotional ending. I want to see the 1st cut so badly
the scene in which nicholas holt and james mcavoy shared in the kitchen is by far the best acted scene in the entire franchise. the raw emotion that nicholas shows is phenomenal.
I actually quite liked Charles in this movie. I personally thought he seemed very agreeable and understandable in his actions, I would have done the same
I actually really love this movie. And I truly enjoy it every time I watch it. I know a lot of people don’t but I truly feel Sophie Turner was a the highlight. Her performance for me was mesmerizing especially when she was going against magneto and the Ending fights
There was one movie that was supposed to take place between Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. It's called New Mutants. It's original script was teased at the end of Apocalypse with in credits. They rewrote and reshot it to the point New Mutants came out after Dark Phoenix. At this point it is considered a standalone and disconnected. Even though one of the characters in New Mutants is the sibling of an X-Men.
Shoutout to Nicholas holt(beast) a severely underrated actor in the series and I’m glad he finally got to show it off a little bit in the kitchen scene with Charles
Honestly, the most clever part of this movie was on the train with the mutants being taken away in restraints, having the train guards labeled as the M.C.U. (their shoulder patches) was a pretty smooth Easter Egg considering what was going on with Fox and Disney at the time of release. Fassbender/Magneto does give an absolute master class in acting with your face in this movie when discovering Mystique is dead...one of the reasons he's solidly entrenched in my top 5 favorite actors. Hope y'all feel better soon; channel some of that Florida-man power and get through the COVID mess.
I watched it in 3D on an IMAX and effects look brilliant, I thought that the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer was very good. Unfortunately this film ended up being derailed by the considerable amount of uncertainty regarding Fox due to the extended negotiations involving Disney. Originally there was going to be a part 1 and 2 which would have been better in Part 1 Jean becomes the Phoenix and then in part 2 she turns into the Dark Phoenix, unfortunately the story was once again compressed into a single film and a lot of plot was sacrificed. BTW the author of the The Dark Phoenix Saga makes a cameo appearance in the film at the White House reception for Professor X. In order to get into the role Sophie Turner studied dissociative identity disorder and schizophrenia. I don't think that it's the worse X-Men film by any means as far as I'm concerned it's better than Wolverine Origins and X-Men Apocalypse.
You both always come first! Please rest & know even content providers have to take a break. Love your perspective & attitude. I enjoyed Dark Phoenix. The actors, visuals, & score was amazing. The writing was good considering they were trying to them this story all in one movie. To truly do dark Phoenix, it needs to be a TV series or a mini-infinity Saga. This is very much like the readers digest version of the story.

Days of future past is still a possibility in terms of the ending scene after this one because it’s implied that she isn’t dead whereas mystique wasn’t seen in the closing scene of the other movie.
What an intro 😆 this movie was actually better than I thought I put off watching it so long cuz I heard it wasn’t the best but I enjoyed it there were some moments I was like that doesn’t make sense but the timeline was all must up at that point they just ran with it.
Mystique: "the women are always saving the men around here. You should rethink the name!" Pretty sure Mystique named them, back in First Class, if memory serves.
She helped to nickname everyone, but it was actually Moira who coined the name "X-Men". Still ironic that it was a female character to name the team X-Men, just further reinforcing that "Men" is just a generalization of people overall.
Out of all the my girlfriend/fianceé watches I think the only movie Jen has disliked EVER was X-men origins: 1st class let's see how she reacts to what widely believed to be the worst X-Men movie ever.
The funny thing about this film’s reception is that people (mainly) call it the worst because they think the Dark Phoenix Saga is suppose to be about Jean being possessed and fighting the X-Men. So they try to view the movie through that lens. When in actuality it is suppose to be about Jean gradually descent into madness due to a series of traumatic events and is only Dark Phoenix for a brief moment. No possession was involved. That is what the movie was going for. To prove my point: watch Doug Walker’s (Nostalgia Critic) review. He jumps to the conclusion that Jean is possessed. He is a very high profile reviewer, so that means most reviewers didn’t grasp what the premise was.

Magneto on the train with the dozens of rifles behind him, shooting the hell out of her but she keeps walking toward him, and for a brief moment you can see a look of confusion/fear on his facial expression. Michael Fassbender is amazing. That's all I have to say about this movie.
What I like about the X-Men movies is the fact that they never tried to follow the MCU's formula or its tropes, especially after it became a trend They never relied on nostalgia, the tone always kept consistent, and they always focused on the present And Dark Phoenix kept that way They kept their sense of individuality. Even the score was different in each movie
They never relied on nostalgia? Yeah sure, bringing back the old casts and showing the same shit of Logan escaped for how many times now were definitely not relied on nostalgia. lmao

They did end up doing reshoots for the last 3rd of the movie. The reshoots happened because the studio said it was basicly the same ending as Captain Marvel. Not a 1 for 1 shot but there was supposed to be a long fight scene in space. So they scraped the last 33 minutes of the movie.
I am always surprised how much praise Fassbender gets for these films. Michael really struggles with the accent in the first two which are the best of his run as the character and the last two are so badly executed... fassbender is actually Irish. Throughout you can hear that warble and he drops into it on certain words. Ultimately his character has a lot of pathos but I actually wanted his villainyto be better portrayed and McKellan does that with such charming menace that I don’t see them as the same person. McAvoy’s performance is more subtle and he has to act around a wheelchair! It’s also much closer to Stewart’s ad overall less showy.
Because his acting is fantastic. Especially emotional scenes. Along with McAvoy they might be better than Stewart and McKellan. As non english speaker his accent doesn't bother me. Benedict Cumberbatch also struggles with accent in few of his movies but his acting is great.
I saw this movie when it first came out back in 2019 walked out dispointed and finshed a fan edit of this movie that took me no joke almost two years to redo. Love the reaction to this movie.

In the first movie, if you listen to Storm say "do you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning?" You can kinda hear the "accent" in question there lol.

Just for everyone confused about the name. Its called x-men because man is a term to refer to humans, regardless of gender. Thats why we say mankind, so the same is applied to the title. Now obviously I have no idea what the thoughts were during the origin of the name from the creators but logically speaking that is why
I'm glad someone is actually talking about this. I totally support equal gender opportunity and whatnot, but the name "X-Men" was NEVER about gender. It was a blank generalization referencing the X-gene that the mutant abilities are derived from.
I think your current state of health and energy is exactly how Dark Phoenix should be watched.... First time I saw it, I could have sworn I was in a fever dream...
I went to see X-Men: Dark Phoenix 2 months after I met Nicholas Hoult (Hank McCoy/Beast) in person and got his autograph I said to him "I think Dark Phoenix will be the best X-Men movie since Days of Future Past." and he liked what I said and agreed. X-Men: Dark Phoenix is a great movie. If the movie had done better at the Box Office and with critics, it could had earned Sophie Turner a Academy Award nomination for her performance as Jean Grey as the former Game of Thrones actress studied mental illnesses for the movie. I felt so bad for Jean Grey in the movie. I broke down and cried at 24:00. At the time when I went to see Dark Phoenix at the cinema, I was suffering from depression due to my grandmother passing away in March 2019 and Jean Grey's demise/transformation into the Phoenix brought the pain of my loss to the surface. It was the 2nd X-Men movie that made me cry. I cried watching Logan at the cinema. I think Dark Phoenix was better than Last Stand and it was more true to the Dark Phoenix storyline in the comics. Last Stand made Famke Janssen's Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. X-Men: Dark Phoenix marked the end of an era for the Fox X-Men film franchise (2000 - 2020).
Sorry about you guys getting COVID, hope you guys feel better and get better soon! for some reason I kinda loved the “I don’t give a f @ the moment Holden” I just busted out laughing when you were explaining the Fox/Marvel deal and just out of nowhere said “oh who even cares” 😂
I really enjoyed Dark Phoenix, I think many people crapped on it and never gave it a chance since at the time it was released it was already known Fox and Disney were merging and the rights would go to Marvel Studios so everybody knew they were going to be rebooted so nobody cared at that point anymore, which is unfortunate. Mind you I love the MCU but I feel like Fox's X-Men movies were a lot more mature and just overal liked a lot more their tone than anything MCU so far (besides the Netflix shows)

So, my final long X-Men fan rant for the final FoX-Men movie:
What, an absolute dud of a movie, and ending to the main franchise. It both bombed critically and financially, what makes it worse was the said reshoots that ballooned the budget, and then the several delays it had, the main problem was the Fox buyout, which the company at time was like "Well, not out problem any more."
After the Bryan Singer situation started, the directors chair had to be filled, now by constant X-Men screenwriter, and man who constantly fails upwards, Simon Kinberg.
Final minor mutants/things who are bigger in everything else:
Selene: She's an immortal vampire like mutant, here she's some eye twitching lady alongside dread lock dude.
Dazzler: At least she looks exactly like she does in the comics, a disco queen who can turn sounds into light energy, and I'm glad Halston Sage got a big credit for 10 seconds of screen time lol
Genosha: Magneto's compound, yeah, that's suppose the Mutant island city... What a far cry lol
D'Bari: the alien race Dark Phoenix destroys in the comics, Jessica Chastain's character, Vuk (yeah, that's her name... And I don't think is ever said in the movie) is so minor, but yet instigates that original stories plot.
(Huh, not that many characters in this to that section on.)
Now, we wait for what Marvel does with them in live action, currently the animated series X-Men 97 is there first step into making mutant content... But I feel I have good faith that those movies will be constantly consistent and hopefully treat every major X-Men respectfully, in big or small ways.
I ain't reading that but I either agree disagree or have no opinion
I’ll bet you anything they bring over these XMen instead of making new ones. It’s already happening. I want the TRUE X-Men as much as anyone. I’m not convinced the MCU is going in the right direction. We’ll see what happens. I should ‘trust in Feige’ but these films have a lot of fans and it feels like Disney is going to compromise there.
@@DylanMadd what do you mean by "it's already happening"?
@@DylanMadd There's no information about that, only baseless rumors.

8:12 "Who the heck is this?"
That is Dazzler, one of my personal favorite Mutants/X-Men.
So much wrong with this comment, but everyone has their opinion.

May I Stand Unshaken Holden gets High Honor
Wasn't expecting Jenn to side with that quote. Everyone hated that quote cause woman was made from men & I never had an issue with the name. Yes Sophie is married to Joe Jonas and has a daughter too. At this point Jennifer who played Mystic was over playing the character so she was okay that her character died
Fans were done with her too. She kept complaining over something sge signed up for. The reason her character started wearing a suit is cuz she was sick of the several hours in the makeup chair then decided "forget the fans, this character ain't worth it"
they took that " in sickness and in health " thing seriously. I feel like Jen is the type to like death note

LMAO!!! Did she just unironically agree with Mystique's whole "it's always the women saving the men" X-women spiel?
One more reason to hate Disney

Sure, he may not be a good writer, but that doesn't make him a bad filmmaker
He's still a great producer
It was because of him that we got FIRST CLASS, DEADPOOL and LOGAN
And THE MARTIAN too

Days of future past is still a possibility in terms of the ending scene after this one because it’s implied that she isn’t dead whereas mystique wasn’t seen in the closing scene of the other movie.
What an intro 😆 this movie was actually better than I thought I put off watching it so long cuz I heard it wasn’t the best but I enjoyed it there were some moments I was like that doesn’t make sense but the timeline was all must up at that point they just ran with it.
Mystique: "the women are always saving the men around here. You should rethink the name!"
Pretty sure Mystique named them, back in First Class, if memory serves.

That's all I have to say about this movie.
What I like about the X-Men movies is the fact that they never tried to follow the MCU's formula or its tropes, especially after it became a trend
They never relied on nostalgia, the tone always kept consistent, and they always focused on the present
And Dark Phoenix kept that way
They kept their sense of individuality.

What do you mean, that's just his accent.
Because his acting is fantastic. Especially emotional scenes. Along with McAvoy they might be better than Stewart and McKellan.
As non english speaker his accent doesn't bother me. Benedict Cumberbatch also struggles with accent in few of his movies but his acting is great.

Mind you I love the MCU but I feel like Fox's X-Men movies were a lot more mature and just overal liked a lot more their tone than anything MCU so far (besides the Netflix shows)
"it's 'X-MEN!' to this day!!!"... She really got me right there and i laughed out loud!!! 🤣🤣🤣
21:07 Holden laughing made me crack up! SO funny! 😂
I love the sassy side from both of y’all 😂. Also I laughed at the part where y’all inserted Spider-Man.
Mystique: you should call it x-women cuz we do all the saving around here.
