Kryten: "You'd risk your life for me? Is this the human value you call 'friendship'?"
Lister: "Don't give me that Star-Trek crap. It's too early in the morning."
Kinda bummed we here on UA-cam didn't see the Gallifrey Gals reaction I'm sure it was in the Patreon version but still
@@solrachernandez3389 id like to have seen Captain Picard's reaction to him watching Lister say that!
"Jim Reaper" is also played by Kryten actor Robert Llewellyn. Jim Reaper is essentially Kryten without his mask on. :)
Wow. I had no idea. That boggles my mind a bit
There are actually quite a few times this happens throughout RD. Pretty much anyone human linked to Kryten or his manufacture (apart from one woman) is played by Robert. Keep an eye out for them.👍😀
It must have been uncomfortable in the mask and costume every filming day . Only the voice and expressions give a clue it's Robert and I'm not surprised some didn't recognise him .
And his name is obviously a play on ‘grim reaper’
We are about to really see Kryten without makeup of any kind
"Don't give me this Star Trek crap, it's too early in the morning" is one of my favorite lines in the whole series.
I was screaming at them to stop talking and listen when that line was approaching, then it never even made the cut : (
@@laserpanda94 Yeah, I was gobsmacked they didn't include that zinger! That was one of the first audio files I saved when I first accessed the internet in 1996. Whenever I hear some schmaltzy dialogue about compassion in some show or another, I'll quote Lister's line, doing my best to capture his accent (and woefully failing, usually).
I love occasionally saying "Where would all the calculators go?" when with my brother and oldest Dwarf loving friends
Feeling old? Body hurting? Realizing that it's all happening....you are getting older?
Not to worry, your new replacement Gals are on their way!
"No such place as UA-cam Heaven? But where do all the reactors go?"
"No such thing as Silicon Heaven?...but where do all the calculators go?!" or "Is this the feeling that human call friendship? It's too early in the morning for that Star Trek crap!" No matter if the Crew annoy, hate, or care for each other, they are still the BOYS FROM THE DWARF!!!
“ .. and his powerful groin.” 😸
Marilyn Monroe droid charges randomly through a steel bulkhead...
'Don't apologise Sir, it's those cute little flaws that keep a guy interested.'
The actor that plays Kryten is actually the guy on the screen breaking the news that his service time has expired.
More than most of us get. Most of us get, mind that bus, what bus? Splat!
Kryten: Is this the human concept they call Friendship?
Lister: Don't give me any of that Star Trek crap. It's too early in the morning.
If Me2 is when the writers started to understand what they could do with Rimmer, The Last Day is when they realised the potential of Kryten.
The bloopers of Red Dwarf are called Smeg Ups, btw.
This episode was when I felt they had decided he was a permanent cast member .
incase you didnt realize it, the man in the message about dismantling Kryten is Kryten actor Robert Llewellyn without makeup on
Kryten telling Lister he might get a job as a disc jockey after his mental and physical functions cease may well be my favourite Red Dwarf one-liner. Mind you, Lister’s “don’t give me that Star Trek crap, it’s too early in the morning” is pretty good too…
I always like the episodes where Lister and Rimmer get along even for a scene or two just because it changes things up a bit
What makes it more interesting is that, I believe, in the early series, the two actors couldn’t stand each other
@@badger_shorts7708Did they ever explain why they hated each other?
@@francescoxiv762 I believe they said in an interview that they had a strong, mutual dislike towards one another in an early series, though I can't remember the reasons, though I believe the kick starter was when Craig Charles found out that, when filming series 1, he was being paid £600 per episode whereas Chris Barrie was being paid more then double that amount
It's a nice touch Hudzen singing 'Goodbye' from 'Oh, What A Lovely War' because that musical's author Charles Chilton also wrote 'Journey Into Space' the hit 1950's BBC radio series and the four protagonists do have a similar dynamic to the Boys from the Dwarf.
“We’re on a mining ship…3 million years into deep space…can someone explain to me…where the smeg I got this traffic cone?!”
One of my favourite lines in the entire show
The ladies' synchronised cackle at the gag was a thing of beauty too.
That was a REALLY well paced/timed piece of dialogue. Craig could NOT have delivered it better.
That's what you call a great night 😅
We got a bit of Lister backstory that will actually stick too!
"One was a wrong number". One of the best lines in any show.... Ever!
Absolutely love Cat, 'Give him mine, Give him mine' Proceeds to give him a real crappy gift
At the start of series 3, you guys were not sure at all about Robert Lewellyn's version of Kryten. We said he'd grow on you. I think you gals are feeling it now. Kryten has a ton of great lines and wonderful moments to come.
…but where would all the calculators gooo? ;)
“It’s a box that goes ‘VZZT!’, just what I always wanted!”
I honestly think "Where would all the calculators go?" is one of the funniest lines I've ever heard, love this episode
sure, they're jerks, but sometimes an outsider shows up and lets "The Boys From The Dwarf" be jerks to a common target
and Lister responding to Kryten making the standard 'androids struggle to understand human emotions' comment with "Don't give me the Star Trek crap, it's too early in the morning!" is an all time fan favorite Red Dwarf line. And few better sum up the Red Dwarf attitude/approach to science fiction.
I think the Gallifrey Gals will love Series 4!
Someone else has probably already mentioned it, but the salesman, that's Robert Llewellyn without all his Kryten prosthetics on and doing his normal accent.
11:22 Kat's best comment followed by Paula's best laugh.
I think if you want to show an episode that truly displays all of the characters this is it. It checks all of the boxes
Character development
Drunken stories
Robot religion
Cat giving a f... a gift
Kooky special effects
Kryten out of makeup
Action sequence
Rimmer being a coward
Lister saying "Montmartre"
Throughout much of Series 3, the crew occasionally addressed Rimmer as "Captain Emerald". This was a reference to one of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's puppet shows.
Cap-Tain Scar-Lett! (Duum dadummda duum)!
Cap-Tain Scar-Lett! (Duum dadummda duum)!
The actor who was on the screen telling Kryten that he was being replaced was the actor who plays Kryten without the robot make-up on if no-one told you.
The Marylin Monroe droid would have been right at home in Classic Who tbh.
Cyber-Mon?
"I'm not a 'FRYING-PANTHIEST'!".
Another classic episode with some great philosophical commentary. Also, if you have an Alexa, try asking if she believes in Silicon Heaven...
Ha! I do, and I just asked her! Brilliant!
Ah yes, that missing Doctor Who adventure 'The Hoppists', when the Ninth Doctor and Rose attended a prayer meeting of the Seventh-Day Advent Hoppists and the Doctor happened to mention "That was a bit rubbish! Null points!" - which worked them up even further than the Darksome Night Of The Great Bunion Leap which they had been circling and chanting only minutes before - and they both had to hop for their lives.
You've got the whole "Series" vs "Season" nailed now!
I'm curious how long it took Paula to recover from "and one of them was a wrong number..." - it's a genuinely great line!
Silicon heaven... where the iron shall lie down with the lamp... 😂
Hey Gals..., Did you spot that the Robotics company guy was indeed Robert Llewellyn ! 🤣😎
To this day, when asked about my religious beliefs, I often think "Of course there's a Silicon Heaven! Where would all the calculators go?"
Season 4 and 5 just get better and better!!
Worth asking Alexa if she believes in Silicon Heaven.
She'll probably say, "Of course...it's in the cloud."
@@captmurdock no seriously, try it
@@duncmcraeOf course it's real....where do you think all the calculators go?
One thing to mention is that the theme tune composer sings the title of the show four times through a vocoder during the new opening theme tune. It was only announced recently, but if you listen to, say, around 19 seconds in, you can hear him going "Reeeeeeeeeeed Dwarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfffffffffffffff". No joke. It's hard to hear at first, but once you hear it, you'll not be able to unhear it.
This has blown my mind
@@InvisibleTower Same, when I first heard it. Kind of tacky in a way, isn't it? It'd be like someone singing "Doctor Who" all the way through it.
@ItsTerryTime Yeah, but this was the 80s, lots of shows did that. He-Man, The Fall Guy, even the original Star Trek had some vocals during the theme song.
@@Rocket1377 I kind of like it in other ways, though.
@@Rocket1377 And the theme to "Some mothers do 'ave 'em" is the morse code for the title, which blew my mind when I found that out.
I love how Kryten's actor gets to deliver the bad news.
Love how kryten actor robert lewellyn plays the person in the message informing of kryten's replacement. They do a similar joke in an episode of series 8 where robert plays another on monitor character.
Two hours in and what can I say that hasn't already been said, except there are some fan favourites coming. We got two bangers this week, I love this format. 😀
A nice character building episode for Kryten. Not bad for a story that was a last minute replacement for an abandoned script. I got a big kick out of your reactions to Rimmer's stories about working on the phone helpline and his parents being 7th Day Advent Hoppists 😊
Robert Llewellyn was a great addition to the cast, just added something they were missing in the first couple of series. And of course red dwarf going beyond a joke to have him double as Jim Grim Reaper the Divadroid salesperson 😄
A nice little comparison to the future sentiment made by Dr Who favourite David Tennent,
“I don’t want to go “
I was midway through secondary school when this came out. Avoided spoilers for the whole day but, as I left, someone twigged. He yelled at me as I charged home and did the post-brick-break-gyrate in the middle of a large group of classmates..... he quickly thought better of it!
Even back then, the show was never super popular... just this wonderfully silly show that a few folks (out of any large social group) would gel with, and retell the plots/jokes from, for the rest of that week.
he didnt know that kryten was an android capable of lying so he just believed it as gospel, brilliant
It's kind of a plot hole as in the next series Lister is teaching him how to lie.
They’re good calculators, Kat.
Except for photocopiers that go straight to silicon Hell
Great to see you finish series 3 gals , I really enjoy your reactions .If you were curious about Robert Llewellyn and his accent he's on screen twice in this one . A nice ending to the series with Kryten being the focus . Great invention to give him a party with Android home brew and the loyalty shown by the others towards him cements him firmly as one of the Boys from the Dwarf . Silicon Heaven can wait .
Oh sweet. I guess they haven't gone to once a week quite yet.
Red Dwarf reactions will go to once a week when the SAG-AFTRA strike ends, and they start reacting to their other usual content as well.
Do you girls know, that the man in the droid fault video at the end, is the actor who plays Kryten? - the Physical Dichotomy line
I wonder if there's also a sock Heaven. Those guys seem to disappear at a staggering rate.
Keep up the good work, Gal pals. I look forward to you watching Series 4!
every episode from here till the end of season 6 is pure gold. (Not to suggest you haven't had some nuggets already)
If you've got any kind of Amazon smart device, ask Alexa if she believes in Silicon Heaven 😉
Well didn't take you long to liking Kryten on 6 episodes, which we all knew you would.
I dusted of my 20th anniversary Red dwarf DVD box set and started a re-watching, so good seasons 3, 4, 5 and 6 are great, you have lots of fantasic episodes to come.
This show can have some surprisingly touching moments despite how fucking bonkers it usually is it's really what gives it its vitality you genuinely love the characters even if they're bastards
So many great episodes coming up, the Boys from the Dwarf deliver.
All calculators go to heaven
If you want to hear what Gordon Kennedy, who played the replacement Android Hudzen, sounds like (ish) in real life, google Stoneybridge Ceilidh
The imperfections of being human is what makes us all beautiful. Live and let live. Ttfn
The guy at 4:40 is the guy playing Kryten.
The series 3 reactions have been so much fun, series 4 is even better... it's funnier, there is more of an emphasis on sci-fi and has better plots, it's going to be a wild ride... big Rimmer salute to both you smeg heads!
Even Rimmer was nice to Kryten
Still here for the Dwarf journey and thoroughly enjoying it. Excellent reactions.
Pleasant surprise. I thought you were going back to one ep a week. I didn't expect a reaction today, at least not a Red Dwarf reaction. I also love how Red Dwarf is able to provide some light hearted commentary on some otherwise rather heavy topics at times.
We'll be going back to one episode a week once the SAG-AFTRA strike is over! So in the meantime we're still at two a week :) - Kat
@@GallifreyGals Nice, well not nice that there is a strike. But nice to still get two episodes :)
I've seen this episode probably thousands of times since it was originally broadcast, and I've even watched this reaction multiple times.
This is the first time I noticed that the pending death notification video featured a character named "Jim Reaper".
You two have this ability to make you think we are in the room with you watching a episode of Red Dwarf, having a laugh about the characters and uptake on them , thank you 🤟
The Last Day is easily my favorite of the series 3 episodes. So many hilarious moments from beginning to end.
Did anyone tell the gals that the guy playing "Jim Reaper" is the actor that plays Kryten, Robert Llewellyn?
Loving these. You gals lucky to discover this.
Where would Talkie Toaster go?
Out the smeggin airlock
Silicon Hell!
IIRC, the books clarify that Talkie Toaster was such a cheap model that his manufacturers didn't bother fitting him with a belief chip. He doesn't believe in Silicon Heaven.
This episode was worked up at fairly short notice once they decided to ditch the linking episode at the start of series 3, "Dad". Notice this episode calls Kryten a Series III Mechanoid, for some reason they changed their mind and in future series his model is (consistently) called a Series 4000.
Also, I think this is the first time they mention dollarpounds in the series (they're mentioned more often in the books). The future currency is 1 dollarpound (slang 'buckquid' or 'quidbucks') divided into 100 pennycents.
Series 5 & 6 are my favourite, don't lose any enthusiasm after 4!
One of the ongoing threads of Red Dwarf is the continuing attempts to make Krytron more and more human…
I love that these cone out on a Friday evening, just as it did so many years ago when I was a teenager.
series 4 has some great stuff! some more of my favourite episodes coming up :3
The guy in the video is Kryten's actor.
Looked like you were really ‘enjoying’ Hudson singing there!😂
Second person from Absolutely sketch show - Gordon Kennedy playing Hudzen 10.
For some strange reason the Scots have good American accents.
Great reaction, looking forward to season 4
Groin power lol
As usual, ladies, great video. You make me love RD even more. I want to give spoilers about what's to come. Instead, I'll be like a kid on Christmas Eve wanting to open his presents. And being told to wait. Look forward to the next one.
DYING TIME! LOLOLOL always has me on the floor! This whole episode is not safe to watch while eating or drinking!
Boys from the Dwarf
How'd you know about this text I sent my mom yesterday?
"I sat wrong and it's taking me a while to be able to straighten my knee"
NO RD Episode WAS "NORMAL"!
Series 4 and 5 are my favourite. :)
If New-Kryten hadn't won you over by "Polymorph" this is the one that really does it. 😁
This used to be my least favourite ep of series III but on a recent rewatch it’s now one of my favourites. Does a great job of meshing a series II smaller story with the new more action driven format.
Kryten could finally lie in this episode
And in true Red Dwarf continuity style, he isn't taught how until the next episode! 😂
Normally I loathe any and all forms of ties (I’m a guy, we bloody hate ties!) but I will say that on Kat, bow ties are actually cool ;) but only on Kat…
i wasn't warned! .. i had to hide my digital watch, pronto!
Always nice to see Bob without the Kryten suit. Fun fact, he was the only member of the original cast that was in the aborted American pilot of Red Dwarf, and the only good thing about the experience was the more comfy Krytenhead. As for Rimmer, he shouldn't be killable without destroying the hologram suite, but they retcon things a bit in the next season. As with smelling the burning wood, the joke is worth it.
This one always reminds me of my misspent youth... I managed to get the traffic cone, but the police woman arrested me.
The ending is a little anti-climactic... although how it is ended is wonderful, and of course set up at the start. The fight against the newer model could perhaps have been prolonged, but really it was about Kryten's last day, not about the battle to save him.
Whilst ya'll these days are used to tv series having some amazing season finale, that's never really been how I've viewed most tv shows that I watch - or at least, watched growing up in the 80's. Whilst Doctor Who occasionally had a big season finale - generally that was for a regeneration.
The books make the whole "Silicon Heaven" thing even darker, elaborating that after a mechanoid rebellion a junior programmer realised the only way to ensure machines stronger and smarter than humans remained subservient was to give them religion. And from that point on anything with AI was fitted with a "belief chip" that made sure they thought a lifetime of servitude would eventually be rewarded.
Jim Reaper is played by krytens actor
noooo they clipped out the star trek one liner
There was an off-camera interruption at the moment the line was uttered, neither of them heard it.
