Both are exceptional.. and Chiara.... wow.. She looks and sounds great and she was 55 at the time. Giacomini.. huge voice, dark, and fabulous... Chiara, great sound, NO mannerisms.
amazing. I actually find his voice to be quite beautiful (when he's "on"). But the fact that you've heard him live doesn't really entitle me to an opinion about the true quality of his voice as I've only heard recordings. I heard anecdotally from long time opera fans in nyc that when he was "on" there was no better tenor (in the 80s at the Met).
well- "beauty" is a pretty subjective word I guess. Can't argue with any of the names you mentioned at all. Some people like red wine, others like whiskey. From this person the quote was "he was inconsistent, but when he was "on," no other tenor at the Met could touch him." So take those to mean whatever you like, my interpretation is above. Would kill to have heard any of the aformentioned names live (heard Domingo many times, and pav twice-though amplified at the end of his life). You're a lucky person.
I'm a big fan of Beczala today. He sounds much different in house than recordings. Similar story to Kaufmann- he sounds much more even in house than recordings where they place the microphone down his throat. Shicoff is great, I have some close friends who study with him currently. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
I've heard Beczała live three times, twice in Un ballo in maschera at San Diego Opera in March 2014 and once in recital at the Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego in September 2016. His voice live has a golden quality that does not come across in recordings.
Someday, the powers that be will realize that today's singing is bad and there will be a renaissance of really great singing. Until then, I will satisfy my musical taste with the historic recordings such as this one. Thank you baritono1975.
I heard Giacomini at the Met in 1982, I heard him in Otello in Germany in 1990 and in Pagliacci and He sang in my Opera Company in 2009. The point you made caused me to start my own Opera Company in 2003. We are still going.
Teaching great singing is a dying art. Not easy to find the right teachers but persistence always trumps talent. Not every successful singer is talented like Giacomini.
He has a remarkable voice and endless breath! I don’t care what he is called-baritone or bass-I don’t care! I’ll just take his singing, whatever the vocal classification!

Brava Maria Chiara!!!! This is her at the end of a thirty year career, having sung everything from Odabella to Aida to Violetta to Mimi!! And 5 years off turning 60, that's if she's been telling the truth about her age(?) I don't know many female singers that sing this well when they're past 45 never mind past 50.
God...what happened to all the dramatic tenors...the masculine sound and timber...how awesome to hear Giacomini and Del Monaco...lot of tenors around and none make these great sounds...Melochi did a great job building these enormous voices... 2015...May...
+Jennifer Rocchi: Giacomini, whom I heard and interviewed, was not a student of Arturo Melocchi. Del Monaco was, but not Giacomini. This is one of several claims that have been made about Melocchi that have no factual basis. (One of the more absurd is that Melocchi reworked Richard Tucker's voice during a non-existent "crisis" that Tucker never had.) Commendatore Giuseppe Giacomini was a very fine spinto tenor in his prime, but factually was one among many in that era.

the darkening of the tone also diminishes the resonance and pushes squillo yes, but there is little beauty in this - a voice pushing unnecessarily. sorry. Desdemona is wonderful.

What an amazing tenor voice !! Nobody talks about him, when all those "brilliant critics" write that lists about "the best tenors"....
Agree, totally underrated
Giacomini has always been number One, with me. I heard him live, in "Turandot" in San Francisco, and was amazed. This is what real singing is.
It has been rumored that Domingo lobbied the Met to keep Giacomini out...makes sense...
Wonderful singing
A sublime operatic duet with two marvelous operatic Stars 🌟🌟💙💙
If only we could hear such singing today....
due artisti spesso sottovalutati
Fantastici artisti x mia fortuna ammirati molte volte dal vivo❤❤
I think this might be one of the most glorious tenor voices I’ve ever heard. Just wow!
La Chiara e veramente divina e Giacomoni - gigantissimo
My soul weeps to hear such a glorious sound like Giacomini's! We are so blessed to have this video.
Both are exceptional.. and Chiara.... wow.. She looks and sounds great and she was 55 at the time. Giacomini.. huge voice, dark, and fabulous... Chiara, great sound, NO mannerisms.
He was 54 she 55 so they probably never sounded better.
Yes,called the Tebaldi del Canto
and pianissimo on the final note. Bravo Giuseppe Giacomini. What a great singer you are. Maria Chiara anche! Grazie
This is the best recorded concert of Giacomini in existence. THIS day. What I would've paid to have been there.

GIACOMINI an excellent singer. Some nice comments on this page

I am an aspiring tenor, and I hope to lend a hand in that change. I agree wholeheartedly with you. It’s only a matter of time 🤞

@@masonmcgowan2825 same here. Good luck!

Bellissima voce.
Sung from the soul. Duet betwen Otello and Desdemona.Lovely Maria Chiara (soprano) and great Giacomini, tenor.
Oh good lord, that is good singing... Just mind boggling. Especially from Giacomini.
Lovely, lovely. Very wonderful duet. Magically sung. Marvelous, marvelous.

This really is about as good as it gets.
So incredibly sad to hear the news of the passing of Maestro Giacomini!! An immense talent and great loss!!
Giacomini's entrance right after 4:00 gives me goosebumps.

E nettamente superiore a tanti tenori drammatici.

MARAVILLOSA
Che Otello sarebbe stato Giacomini ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ma veramente non l’ha mai cantato?
Grandi con modestia ma altissima luce
Wow !

I fully agree
¡Sombreros fuera!
Giacomini....bis, bis!!!!
Che meraviglia

Good to know, thanks. Now I'm off hunting.
The what happened question is specious. Now there are Jonas Kauptmann, Charles Castronovo....
Melocchi was a very bad teacher even according to Del Monaco, so...
vraiment...
