    My Amma also used to make yummy Neyappams. This video made me extremely emotional remembering my Amma. Just a piece of advice, folks! When your mother offers something with a lot of love, even if it is oily and laden with ghee, do not refuse it. Burn extra calories, the next day, but just have it happily without making any fuss!

      Is it ok to have 2 cup of jaggery for 1 cup of rice. Will it not be a little too much that it would be difficult to take it out in such share whole cooking. Please clarify as I am a little doubt full of the message of jaggery for rice. Is it 1: 2 or 1: 1. Otherwise I have no other doubts.

      Oh ok. Thanks to your response. It made me realy happy. My comment was not for sweeties, but , it was whether the Appams would come out of the Appakkaral without breaking and getting stuck. That was my question. Left it to my choice I like sweets and would like to add 2 and a half cup jaggery also. Sorry to have bored you and thanks and blessings.

    Looks yummym... My mom used to cook completely in ghee... also for one glass rice we put only one glass of powdered Jaggery....

    My mother also made wonderful Neyyappams. Her secret was the banana. Interestingly she also added fried coconut pieces.

    Namaskaram mami🙏 Tried making neiappam according to your recipe. Made it in my grandmother’s cast iron appakaaral. The neiappams came out really really well!! All of us at home finished it in no time!! Thank you so much mami, neengal romba nanna cholli tharel! Happy onam to you 🙏🙏

    I make this exactly the same way u have told mami, but when I turn my appam, it becomes a blob and not like a ball. Why?

      Need to turn around when half cooked. Practice would bring shape.

      Appidi thaan I do even then the uncooked side when turned forms a blob. Doesn’t spread like in the video. Guess will have to practice . Sometimes it’s fine but most of the time it forms blob.

    Hello Mami! Thank you for sharing this recipe. I tried it today. My appams were soft and tasty but they did not swell up like a ball. They were quite flat compared to yours. What is the reason for that?

      You may need to turn around when it's half cooked

    Mami naan oru cup arishi ki onnara (1.5) cup vellam potu paaka poren. 2 cups konjam jaasti sweet a irrukkum. Also you don't have to make vella paagu? You are grinding vellam directly with the arishi maavu?

      Should be since jaggery is added more. You may little wheat flour to compensate

    Hello Mami,
    I am a frequent visitor of all your recipes..this gokulashtami I tried making neiappam..I used pacharisi for making it. The ratio I took was 1:2. For one cup pacharisi 2 cups jaggery..
    Ghee and sesame oil for frying it
    But the appams got stuck when I poured in the karai..
    I guess we have to add only about 1 - 1.5 cup of jaggery for 1 cup pacharisi.
    I am not sure whether the ratio is based on the type of pacharisi too.
    Can u pls let me know.

    Is rice:jaggery ratio 1:2 right? Becos tried today but batter got stuck at the bottom of kaaral. Even after adding wheat flour it didnt come out perfectly. Usually we add 1:1 only no?

      It depends on the quality of rice and the sweetness of jaggery, the ratio needs to be adjusted

    Mami..I have some doubts.
    Is it require to fermant?
    I always keep thick batter.but your batter was like dosa batter.
    My appam is flat on top it is not coming fluffy and little hard also.
    Eppadi correct pannanum . advice pannungo mami

      Please follow the ingredients as mentioned in the description and maintain the consistency as shown in the video, you will be able to get neyappam as shown.
