For those new to RM:
RM is a South Korean rapper born 1994 (30 years old) and he's currently doing his mandatory military service and will be back in June 2025.
RM started his military service in December 2023 so everything that has come out after Dec 2023 he recorded before he enlisted and just released after.
RM's latest album, released in May 2024, a few months after he left, is called *'Right Place, Wrong Person'.*
If you wanna check out more from RM he released MV's to the songs 'Nuts', 'Domodachi' (feat. Little Simz), 'Groin', 'Lost', 'Credit roll' and 'Come back to me' off his latest album.
The whole album is great and worth a listen. Moses Sumney is also a feature on one track.
The album was recognized as one of the best albums of the first half of the year 2024 by Rolling Stone, Billboard, The Associated Press, and NME.
Billboard wrote _"RM simply refuses to acknowledge the existence of any such boundaries over these 34 minutes, with 11 songs that careen from hip-hop to jazz to punk to R&B to Fela Kuti-styled Afrobeats - while all still sounding like a coherent and natural artistic extension of one man's creative vision"._
He also has two previous mixtapes *'RM'* released 2015 and *'Mono'* released in 2018 and another solo album called *'Indigo'* released in 2022 where he had features like Anderson Paak and Erykah Badu.
He's also recorded with Warren G, Wale, Juice WRLD, Tablo of Epik High, Tiger JK, Megan Thee Stallion and Fall Out Boy, just to name a few.
RM is a great songwriter so remember to *turn on the CC for English subtitles* when you check out his other work because he often switches between English and Korean.
His name is Kim Namjoon also often called Joon.
He went by the stage name Rap Monster before but now just RM.
He started out as an underground rapper when he was 13, was signed to Big Hit in 2010 and is the leader of the 7 member group BTS since their debut in 2013.
He is BTS main songwriter* and writes for other artists too and has credits as songwriter on over 200 tracks.
RM has an IQ of 148, is really into art and poetry and reads a lot which shows in his lyricism and overall work.
*All BTS member are involved in writing and producing their music and all 7 (3 rappers & 4 vocalists) have released their own solo projects as singles, mixtapes and albums. Their names are Jin, SUGA/Agust D, j-hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook.
BTS will be back working as a group in 2025 when all members have been discharged from the military. As of yet only Jin have finished his service and j-hope will be discharged next month, October 17th 2024, the other 5 enlisted later and will be discharged in June 2025.
BTS fanbase is called ARMY.
I just want to add to this that Right Place, Wrong Person has actually made it to all "Best Albums of 2024 so far" lists, with one exception (Consequence, and it seemed like their only objection was that it didn't sound like anything BTS fans would recognize...which is sort of the point of an experimental album like this 🙄). The full list of outlets including it on their best of 2024 so far lists: Billboard, Rolling Stone, NME, AP, The Guardian, All Music, Teen Vogue, Pop Crush, and Genius.

Groin! Possibly my favorite from the album, but then Around the World in a Day, and Heaven... Gah such an insanely good album, I'm thrilled he's getting a lot of critical acclaim for it 💜

@@ciyanu I Would recommend Mono if you want to hear something atmospheric and introspective. Indigo is a mix of multiple genres and has some amazing collabs.. RM was his first mixtape and full of anger because of the people who criticized him when he was starting off. RPWP is for pure Rap and Hip Hop lovers

Goodluck to ur endeavors guys. I think that BtS would somehow inspire ur way to getting where u wanna be and it won’t be easy of course. Root urself with fans who’d stick around and always stay humble. Persevere too and work even harder. RM’s rpwp album from a producer’s perspective is a masterpiece and he worked with a lot of people to achieve what he mostly wanted for this project. He put himself out there without the idol BTS’ mask, either u respect his work or you would respect his work. This is just to show that they got to where they got to because they simply deserve it. Period.

Every project RM puts out is differrent from the last. One day you should listen from his first mix tape right the way through to RPWP. The whole album captures and makes work so.many disparate genre Tyler The Creator, Frank Ocean, Beetles Psychedelia, avant-garde jazz, British Grime, rap, Soul Etc. Etc. Combining all these influences that makes us little music nerds on the edge of our seats, facinated and I imagine we are going to spend the next decade exactly how he made it all work. Another album needs listening from start to finish. If INDIGO was a carefully crafted gem RPWP is raw, experimental and well deserving of its critical success. Both albums made my small carefully curated cd collection. I save that for albums I consider will be future cult classics. Exemplifying the time they were made.
Just curious, you said that RM is “probably one of the best rappers in the Kpop industry” and this track shows off his versatility. You know a lot about music and the western scene. Where does he fit in your mind as a rapper (considering his versatility) in general, not just Kpop? Granted, you’ve only seen a small part of his discography.
The album right place wrong person really needs to be listened to from top to bottom with no skips. The transitions between songs adds to the artistry that is this album. It takes u on a journey

RM has a documentary about the making of "Right Place, Wrong Person" that was the first K-pop artist documentary ever to be invited to screen at BIFF (Busan International Film Festival). It will premiere there in October, then be released to theaters worldwide sometime after that. I saw an article that distinguished between other documentaries that basically show "day in the life" type footage, as opposed to this one which really delves into the thoughts and motivations that drove RM to make this album.

Lol, the thing about BTS is you can find something for just about everyone. This happens pretty often when people start reacting to them, they mention their usual genres or tastes and ARMY jumps in and says "oh hold on I bet you'll like this then!" Their full discography includes over 200 songs just from the main group, not counting the solo music released by all seven of them individually, which puts it at over 300 if im remembering correctly, and they've dabbled in a lot of sounds, so they really do have something for everyone. I'm enjoying seeing y'all fall down the rabbit hole, looking forward to more in the future!

In the beginning of the video you said you were reacting to the most popular song. This is the main release for the album. I don't it's the most popular song if you ask others.
And what you may learn or may I already know is that the title track is just that the title track to lure you in to listen the album which has all the bops slams jams whatever you want to call it. 😊
So to say all that is to remind you that in K-pop the best songs are the b-sides.
