@Bethinn Evans Hello Bethinn can I ask you question when people who get lung transplant for cystic fibrosis does new donor lungs get infected and damaged over time with cystic fibrosis sill be in another organs like pancreas and liver thank you for your time love from jess sellars xxxxxx 💕💜😘❤

Hi Jess. Good question. When you get a lung transplant the cells in your lungs no longer have CF so they don't get infected and damaged in the same way. The rest of your body still has CF so you still can't digest food correctly for example. Unfortunately, for reasons I don't totally understand, lungs don't last particularly long after transplant as at a certain point your body rejects them. I believe the average life span for lungs after transplantation in CFers Is around 10 years so it's something you want to wait as long as possible to do. I hope that helps.

Hi Bethinn! I love your vlogs! I also have CF :) I used to live in London as a toddler (then I moved to Italy) and I would go to Brompton hospital. Did you also go to Brompton as a child? X

@@BethinnEvans cool I'll watch that video then! Last time I went there I was around 11, now I'm 19 (basically I grew up having two CF teams, one in London the other in Rome hahah. I'd only go to Brompton once a year though, I have fond memories of it). Hope you're keeping well too Bethinn :)

@Bethinn Evans Hello Bethinn i have questions for you over lung transplant
1 could new donor lungs get infected by cf sinus ur not?

Hi Jess, I'm not completely sure what answers I can give that I haven't already.
On the first question; infected sinuses can cause respiratory problems for anyone so in that sense yet, they could make your lungs ill but since the lungs are not damaged by the CF you should be able to fight off any infection better so it shouldn't cause major problems.
To answer the second question, no CF cannot take over the new lungs. They do not contain CF cells and cannot develop them. When transplanted lungs failure it is usually because your body rejects then, not that they have become infected. I hope this makes sense. I'm sorry i can't be of more help!

Alot of people with CF have come off their other drugs with Kaftrio. I saw you just drinking water to take your drug, they say you're supposed to eat fatty foods to absorb the Kaftrio.

Yes that's true. I always have my Kaftrio with a high fat breakfast.

Hmm, it's difficult to comment on what others are staying without knowing the context but I am completely sure the new lungs will not have and can't develop CF. A quick google search confirms this. What they might be describing is rejection of the new lungs, and describing it as damage? The anti rejection drugs also suppress your immune system so you could be more susceptible to chest infections - like anyone can catch one. Although we know a lot about our health, we still aren't doctors. I believed until recently that the new lungs would become infected like the old ones and it wasn't until a conversation a couple years ago with my CF team that i was informed this isn't the case. People saying this might just think this is the case, like I did.
