S/once told me I couldn't wear two different patterns (of different sizes) on different articles of clothing. My response? No... YOU, can't pull this off. But I can.
This video is needed for so many people, style has gotten to be about rocking what people think others would like to see. People have forgotten how to actually have THEIR OWN STYLE.
I love your approach on personal style, especially where you said that the way we dressed when we were younger may have changed or evolved as we get older - so true! I have changed and refined the way I dressed from my 20's and keep it updated and relevant now in my late 40's. I have always told myself that I dress for me and no one else. That's how we should all feel about it!
PREACH! Guidelines over rules forever. I find it more difficult to follow a trend than dressing the way I want. I'd rather live with the stigma of "looking different" than "looking traditional." I like streetwear but wow is it washed out now. I hope (through my questionable wardrobe) I can spread the ideology and help people re-learn the original meaning of "wear what you want" because we are dooming ourselves.
Streetwear is kinda boring now. I like Japanese street fashion because the looks are crazy. I have a more "all-black" look to my closet but as an onlooker, everything is starting to melt together. Spread your word sis.
From plain old menswear mixed with streetwear I'm finally on my first real personal style journey/phase: oversized and super layered minimalism with some bright colours here and there
@saucyrisi I hear you!! And same here. That's why I started my channel. To find people who share the same mentality and are currently on their own journey as well. I wish you luck on your style journey!
Fashion should be self expression, to me it is a second layer of skin that shows my interests, I’m to broke to waste my money on every “hot brand” mix and match personally. My style haven’t changed overall , I just wear comfy clothes hh
I hope people look at japanese street fashion in japan is pure and authentic of how they express how they feel. I hate ig style pages. But like a needle in a haystack the pure will outshine brighter
This channel inspires me so much. every time I feel bored or losing interest in fashion and I watch one of those videos, I get remind of why I like fashion to begin with, and that I should not be afraid to experiment. Thank you!
Man you hit everything spot on. I think everyone who is into clothing should watch this video it gives such a good, positive, and realistic approach to finding your personal style. We need more fashion youtubers like you.
Wow. Your words are honestly very inspiring and you are an eloquent speaker about a very amorphous topic. I loved the part about how people will think your style is for them and it's not. It's a great point. Also, I've been incorporating more personality into my clothing choices these days, and the part about dressing to look good being a boring cop out really hit me in the feels. You definitely earned a sub with this vid.
I think a lot of people need to find their own balance between being influenced and inspired by clothing, while finding pieces that reflect who they are as a person. Too many people are getting caught up in trends, and it takes away the authenticity we are looking for while we try to express ourselves through clothing. Amazing vid as always! A lot of people needed to hear this.
Amen! I love that I was able to buy both, then buy it again in a smaller size because the initial fit was weird. All in the name of getting that perfect thing that I want.
couldn't have come at a better time for me. Refining my personal style these days and it's such a rewarding process. Finally building a small sneaker collection, realizing what actually works for me and what doesn't. I'm down for the journey.
I've started designing my own clothes so I can express myself on 100 %. I don't really care about what people think of me, because I interact with these strangers for a while, sometimes a literal second and then won't meet them ever again in my life, so why try to appeal to them... Also as you said, no matter what you wear, someone will find it bad and somebody will like it. Always.
As an adult, I had a teen boy ask me if I had any Gucci, Prada, or Supreme. When I said I didn’t, he asked his friend how can anyone be a man without any. I just chuckled. Oh, IG generation...
I understand the point from 3:00 onwards. It’s just that some people have plain-type taste, my own style a lot like that jeans and boots picture. Otherwise it’s just being different for the sake of it, people who look common ‘not being true to themselves’. It’s also a kind of economic problem, too. Most people can’t be bothered to explore the realm of odd designers, those listicles help those that want to explore a normal-looking style through common pieces. That said, I appreciate your viewpoint. Thumbs up, keep it coming Reggie
Two words ...Thrift Shop ... People don't have to explore designers ...just figure out what their style is .... I live in NYC .. if someone said "the guy wearing blue jeans a black/white tee shirt " that is almost every guy who walks by ....
Omg I could write an essay about this😂😭 from Gucci being something everyone “knows everything about” to that one hot high street piece seen in different forms and worn by every girl in my school, this stuff is really limiting and people need to be able/need to learn to express themselves through clothes better.
Fuck. Refinement. Repression. Style. Awkwardness. Judgement. Discrimination. A "set look". A "personal style". Rules. Colour palletes. Brands. Logos. Trends. Gender driven clothes. Functionality. Haters. "Fashion to me is like music, i wouldn't only listen to one genre. So why would i wear only one style of clothing". LOVE EVERYTHING. EMBRACE IT. OWN IT. Even if people think you look trash. You get one life. LIVE IT. Stay humble and true to the only person who's opinion matters about what you wear YOURS 💜👌✌
Definitely I agree on that fashion is the journey of stylistic self-discovery. What I struggle with is the fact that this self-discovery is in certain form dependent of the economic situation. Great video as per usual.
Thaanx Reggie, you r telling what my understanding from fashion is the right one (as an industrial designer its a good sign for me!!) :D Just go with the flow dont bother to look at other ppl to much just wear the stuff you see n you feel instantly attracted to. And dont be afraid!!
This is what the internet has done it pushes everyone together, people even look the same on Instagram, not the clothes they wear they actually look alike.
I hit this rut a few years ago and have been trying to break out. What helped me was figuring out what always spoke to me, then slowly integrating unique pieces into my wardrobe to push out the boring looks. This motivates me to find the next "me piece" and push out the generic NPC clothing I had before (buy one piece, sell/toss another)
Another great discussion. Bums me out how many people just want to wear exactly what’s “normal.” And price is not really any excuse, because as others have said, it’s very easy to find more “unusual” looks at almost any thrift store for very cheap. I’m not someone who likes attention very much, but I’ve always wanted to do things differently in my own way, whether that’s art or fashion or whatever. If you aren’t creating something new for yourself or others, what are you doing?
Damn you reminded me of my younger self's style, I was trend setting with some (probably sketchers) bulky ass shoes that had spikes on the soles, and that's like 10yo me, 4yo me wore denim jackets and big ass hoodies
I'll just wear whatever I like not what other people like. Like you know what sometimes I wanna wear some hypebeast fit, skater fit, even a super simple fit with a a plain t shirt
instagram just fucked up everything: it fucked up sneakers, fashion, travelling and festivals. Nowadays people don't even care about travelling or festivals if they can't post it on instagram.
What's good Reggie, I'm definitely a fan of your channel, lots of valuable gems you drop about the fashion game. I'm starting a brand and I would definitely like to get your opinion on some of my pieces.
I love old bape Reversible cut and sews. Especially when people don't realize its a "hype brand". My personal style is a low key reversible Bape crewneck and some nice pants and shoes. I'm pretty boring though. The way Bape is talked about now, at least I wasn't just in it for the clout lol
😶 if you're cuttin' shit off cuz you hate it', that's not "personal style"... that's: "i hate em', but i'll wear em' cuz i'm a follower, but i hate em' so much i gotta change em' somehow... i think they're ugly af" not the same thing. not even close. nice try tho.
Idgaf about hype, I liked the sacai since I first saw them even any collab in general like undercover, I like fashion because it appeals to me not because everybody likes it
You don't have to know the history but it's guaranteed that if you knew more about the designer that you found a piece from you'd have an even bigger appreciation for it. To each his own but a piece is only a piece until it's a part of your story.
Being fashionable or trendy isn’t necessarily style. Style is about taste, and the talent and eye to make your self stand out for all the good reasons. Not because it’s what everyone else wears, or what a celebrity wore. 10 people can wear the same outfit, but only one will give it justice and own it. It’s delusional to think that wearing designer brands only means you have style. No!
I wear shirt from my local based streetwear brand (AkuDesign/etc) Malaysia I wear pant from my local based streetwear brand (Pestle & Mortal/HighCultured.etc) Malaysia I always choose to support my own local brand, because the culture and the ideology suits my needs and identity. The only Commercial stuff that i wear is Vans skate shoes, because i used too skate and no sneakers have better fit ,durability and comfort as skate shoes.(price is well reasonably too) But everybody have their own preferences, like those hypebeast who follow the trend, one could wear a clown outfit, set the trend and the rest will follow. Such a clown..
Never changed my style ..I never follow trends or fads.. I have had only TWO designer pieces in my life 1/Adrienne Vittidini (?) dress ....was a birthday gift . and another piece (I don't remember the designer) I bought in a thrift shop... I used to work in a high end boutique and quite frankly a lot of people....DO NOT KNOW their style ...... people always wanted to buy exactly what the mannequin was wearing ......😆

The quote is untrue. Fashions last a season or so, and style is typically associated with an era or epoch.

Style is a art form fashion is style industrialized
Dev. B? Nice
Fashion is an art, the fact that it’s industrialized is just capitalism
You're correct. Hypebeasting is ruining Streetfashion and sneaker scene.
Favorite vid from you so far, people need to remember that expensive/popular doesn’t make something cool in your eyes
"going places only you can go" What a great way to define personal style. Great Video as always :)
