Not for the channel, but y'all should check out Carrie and Steve Tyler from Aerosmith singing "Walk This Way." It was exceptional! While yes, Steve Tyler did Steve Tyler things, but I felt Carrie held her own most of the time. Tyler might have also just been being nice and deciding to not blow her off the stage a lot of the time, but they actually sounded ok together! I wasn't sure how it was going to work going into it because their voices and singing styles are SO different, but it actually works IMO!

Gotta listen to Carrie sing Paradise city on CMA's, Drinking Alone and her live performance of poor everybody else where she shocks the whole place with another unexpected talent of hers. She really can do anything after that.
It sounded to me like the sound engineer didn't have the backup singer's volume high enough. While I agree she is no Nancy Wilson I felt like I couldn't really hear her because Carrie was so much louder. When I was younger I sang with my sister and Dad a few times and they always had to boost the volume on my mic because my Dad and Sister have such ridiculous power and volume. I'm not quiet, I had to learn to tone down and match my volume once I got to college and started singing in choir, but my Dad and sister have opera singer volume and power! My Dad literally! He sang opera in college and was told he should pursue it professionally. I heard what I thought was a really great cover of this song on The Voice Australian of all places. Nyree Huyser and Tarryn Stokes sounded absolutely amazing together. It blew me away!

A couple of things guys. First, Carrie didn't bring in a special backing vocalist. She's playing with her regular band and thus, her usual BGV. And you're correct, the song was too big for her but since she's a country singer I don't hold it against her. Now, as for Carrie, I'll preface this by saying I'm a superfan. But that doesn't mean I'm not objective. Of all the times I've heard Carrie sing Alone this was her worst go. I'm not sure why but she sounded a bit weaker and less resonant than usual. I had an acquaintance who attended this taping who said Carrie was quite hoarse when speaking so she may have been sick, but that's unsubstantiated. Nevertheless I wouldn't fully judge her version of Alone based on this performance. Instead, pull her up her fan club party version. Or, if you want to hear how she sounds more recently, she sang it when she did those 3 dates opening for Guns 'N Roses (there's plenty of fan video). And for that matter if you want to hear her version of Ace of Spades from the same show you might really dig that. Love your channel and love your unique perspective on music. Keep it up, guys!

Heart is my all time favorite rock group. Maybe she needed Gretchen Wilson with her. She has performed with Nancy Wilson, and with Heart. It wasn't really cheating because Carrie had the twang in her voice. There, is that better?

Either way, had I heard it in the late 80's I would have loved it.

It might be because of my classical training, but at time it sounds like she is almost gulping her breaths with a hard glottal stop. Its probably intentional knowing Carrie and her vocal skills, but to me it sounds like she is nervous and planning her air usage well.

This is good but she's not heart.Had heart never existed and she sang it then yea it was good . Love Ann's voice and am a big heart fan and when heart sang the highway to heaven tribute in front of led zeppelin it's hard to choose which one I like best

It went nowhere. Then Heart covered it in 1987 and it became a massive worldwide hit. According to R.I.A.A. and Billboard, Heart's version of Alone became the number one song of the world, in 1987. Since then... Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Floor Jansen, Cyndi Lauper and Cher of copied Heart's version. But their covers went nowhere.
Even before I watched your full video, no one will ever compare to Heart. Carrie can belt out songs no lie and I love that about her. But when she has to hold back and sing quietly it’s kinda blah to me. And I LOVE Carrie. My favorite singers have a bit more versatility to their voices.

Oh she more than has the range, her technique just makes it more difficult to reach the notes. She uses more cord muscle than Ann. Ann used mix to belt out those notes. Carrie pulls them straight from her throat. It's a lot more strenuous. Also, this performance wasn't a good measure. She was ill. Watch her tour versions. And the acoustic from 2007.

This version was years ago. Listen to her version when she toured with Guns & Roses last year. Much better comparison.
