I dived into series without background knowledge. Did not know the book. Watched movie after the Netflix series. The show crushed me. As a soon to be 40 Millenial, I was not aware I am still capable to feel so hard for a love story. Fair amount of credit goes to the soundtrack, as according to the timeline, covers my youth and naive years :)
@@ingaulena same with me also, today I told my daughter who is 23 yrs old to watch and she said mom you haven't watch the movie in2011 and I said this series is much worth to see
The actors were award worthy. Not just Leo and Ambica, but everyone. Tilly, Ian, the families. Every part of this show was pitch perfect. Watched in two sittings. I'm telling people don't watch the last two episodes, just leave yourselves in happiness! !
Don’t we watch these things to be destroyed at the end? Like I knew this was gonna have a sad ending (kinda happy too depending on your take), but it’s just so beautiful and well done I could never stop.
I watched in ONE sitting… I had NO IDEA how much time passed as I did not move from the couch. I saw the 2007 version and there is not a comparison. This was exceptional in every way. Applauding…and crying.
Same here. I had no intention of doing so but once I started it I couldn't stop. I was expecting more comedy since it was labeled as a "rom-com" but it was totally worth watching!
Emma truly loved the real Dexter whit all his flaws. When she told him "it's me Dexter you don't need a plan " shows the acceptance of real love. Emma and Dex will be forever my favourite characters 💖 💓
Contrast to one night of passion or instant attraction that we are so used in western drama the series shows a bond that grew deeper and deeper over the yrs which was why the last episode hit so hard
Me and my wife have been together for 15 years, we’ve been together since we were 16. This show broke me down, because the show isn’t about romance. It’s about a relationship, and growing up together. All things grow at different rate, some plants bloom quicker than others, others bloom into a flower and then become a fruit. It’s all about the journey of life and that’s why this particular show was soul crushingly realistic.
This show changed me. I’m a man and I’ve still got knots in my stomach from it. My favorite moment was when Emma came back to her flat with pretend tonsillitis. They were both so open and vulnerable. And her emotions after they’d had sex, so raw and serious. It was beautiful. I’m going to watch it again this weekend. Not sure why I’m going to torture myself but I want to.
It is much better than the movie. As a book lover I was skeptical when I new this story was being re-told but, this was spectacular. Amazing acting, writing, production and the way they fleshed out the story while staying true to the book was brilliant.
Absolutely loved it. Two terrific leading actors who were well cast and took you through a roller coaster of emotions. Brilliant chemistry between them. The ending came like a gut punch.
A point not mentioned in this video is that the ending provides the real-life answer to the question Emma asked Dexter on the first "day" of where he saw himself when he's 40. The answer was deeper and more complex than Dex glibly imagined, and less cynical than Emma's assumption. It was a life filled with success and failure, highs and lows, and parenting a daughter after not being there for his dying mother. Emma helped provide structure, meaning, and the ability for Dex to move forward in life cherishing the memories of the one day that meant so much.
I have gone through the serie completely, and it still lingers after days. It's so human, relatable, longing, time standing still when you have someone who in time then resurfaces anyway. The longing for each other, sometimes by not saying a word, just a look a touch, the infinite longing that you are afraid of.
Both of them were brilliant in the series, especially Abika Mod. She absolutely nailed it in every scene, I couldn't take eyes of her. This is the first time I ever saw her in anything never heard of her before. Those eyes of hers my god, and her voice really got me. I know she wasn't the sexy type of girl most of us would want but she had adorable and innocent look on her, makes you want to kiss and hug her.
Watched it three days back in one go. Destroyed me. I have watched the movie too but this show was far more deeper, intense, honest and so so so sad...
Yeah this show had so many more stand out moments compared to the movie. The songs that were selected to play at the end of the episode were so well chosen too!
I don't know why I decided to watch this show, but it caught me at the right time. This could have been very bad, and initially I felt like it might. But as I continued to watch, I remembered how many people move in and out of your life, but some are always there, especially when you need them most. Unfortunately, the universe cares little for the plans of us mortals and we inevitably have to endure soul-crushing hardships. I liked that Ian was the one to tell Dex not to give up. It seemed appropriate. Pretty good series.
I’ve watched it three times and am still enthralled by Leo’s beseeching eyes and soulful expressions along with Emma’s matter of fact reactions to a romance that sadly ended too soon.
Didn't know anything about this " one day " series... I was searching to watch something on netflix.. i thought ill give it a go.... absolutely loved it . Kept watching episode 12 & 13 when they finally got together... So emotional...
I read ONE DAY as it was a book swap one, saw the film and forgot about it. I saw the first episode and had not clicked with the show and returned to it and in two separate binges was crying and crying during and after the last episode. Romantic Love is a gift from God and staying in it is the beauty of commitment. I skimmed the film and it still does not holdup to the series which spends more time with Emma and Dexter. It led to more connection with them and the healthy cry I had was bittersweet yet good as I recognised that believing in platonic and romantic love is ok. x!
ive seen the movie and i totally agree with you about the series; I felt more attached to the characters and immersed in their story. even though I knew the ending would be heartbreaking, I still wanted them to be happy together :( loved the overall review! thanks for putting my thoughts into words. ambika and leo did AMAZING.
I had seen the film so I knew what happens at the end but I love the series because it showed so much more of the characters with each day every year 😊
This is a superb series and one of the best i have seen in several years. The ending was so painful but this was because we really appreciated the connection between Dex and Emma. I am going to get the book now.
Decided to visit my grandmother on a whim, and she passed away a month later. So glad I did that. Call your friends, tell your family you love them. You never know ❤️
You did such a great job on the screenshots. They are so crystal clear, as though you took photos at the real scenes. Really appreciated them all. Great job!😊
Came into this without knowing anything about it. Never read the book or saw the movie. It really gutted me..especially since the actor playing Dex looks so much like my first love that I was taken aback. Anyhow, *spoiler* Emma’s death took me off guard. Should have seen it coming but I didn’t. Heartbreaking. Beautiful story. So well done that I’d love to know how it compares to the book.
I binge watched this series and I Rarely binge watch it anything. It just really touched a nerve with me. I felt they both did an amazing job. And the way Dexter looked at Emma at the wedding. 😭😭😭 If youve ever looked at or had someone look at you like that you just know.
Perfectly cast, beautifully written, did the book proud, preferred this to the film and yes I cried at the end ... chemistry between the two were spot on
Loved the show. Amazing acting. Good writing. Honestly I only just don’t like the ending. It feels like Emma’s character serves to teach Dexter humility which sucks after having her be her own character for 12 episodes. It was also just too sad. Making him lose the love of his life after already losing his mother? Meh I don’t know.
Truly, but I think above all, I think it serves as a reminder that grief and acceptance are normal parts of life that everyone goes through. We all die sooner or later but people like Dexter show true strength by persevering through their grief and utilizing it in a way that’s beneficial to both them and their loved ones.
I started watching this series in the evening after my office.. It was past mid night.. I was crying.. Emotions were different. I felt lump in my throat. This made me think of me losing my dear ones. ❤which I might go through one day... Can't really digest the thought... My heart feels heavy..
I just Binged watched this, I couldn't stop. I was so heartbroken for Emma when she died and Dex. They wasted so much time but finally loved each other. Great story, loved the actors and emotion they conveyed.
I loved the show so much and knowing the ending I was crying right from the start. At one point I thought: why are you doing this to yourself? But it was so compelling, I couldn't stop. Love the story and love the actors so much. I never really liked the film version. It didn't hit me the way this show did.
I hated the movie. In fact, that's the only thing I remember about One Day 2011. That made me skeptical about the series and I wasn't sure whether I'll watch. However, I did and it's much better than the movie, including the cast. The series made me feel things and it felt more real.
I just finished it last night. I loved it and am still pondering over it. Parts that we wondered about were put into the final episode. It was so good, and so I really enjoyed your review. Very insightful.
I also wished the writer didnt end her character in the book, they just started being loving to each other after a long wait. She loved him , its so silly i wonder what the writer was thinking. Luckily not a true story
Brilliant series. Loved every minute of it. Watched it three times now. Vanbur is also one of my favs now because of this series. Want to read the book next 🤓
Yeah! Even though it had 14 episodes which I initially thought was too long before watching it, after finishing it, I almost didn't want to leave the charavters
I've religiously watched the film a couple times a year since it came out. It's just one of those kind of films for me, especially when I needed a "good cry" haha. I was very apprehensive about watching this series, but the casting drew me in. I think the series is far more authentic and relatable. The series allowed for more character development and background. I'm glad I watched it and will likey binge it again at some point.
Like all the other comments here, this show was shattering, heartbreaking, shocking to me! I had no idea either of them would die! I took my time watching this show, one episode a day because I thought it was just a cute, loving love story... then BAM!!! The bike, the car, the rain, ruined it all! A day sly and unseen. I hate it!! And love it all the same... 🧡😢
I'm so glad I searched what happens in the ending , just binged watched 10 episodes... I don't think I could cope with watching it and seeing it iv cried enough to it 😅
I definitely cried watching the last episode. I loved it! And I’m grateful I got to watch it ❤. I agree with you the actors did a great job bringing the characters to life.
The series much more powerful than the film and 14 episodes make it last longer and therefore so much more detail. Those two actors absolutely nailed it. Normal people falling in love.
ha ha I think as I am getting older I am also starting to enjoy these romantic character driven shows as well. I also think this mini series format i.e. 5-6 hours is a perfect format to really peel back the layers of a character, much more than a movie, without requiring writers to come up with more and more ideas like they are required to for a 3+ season show. I really enjoyed this and shows like it e.g. Ordinary People.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for your ending explained and overall review of this series. It’s because of your video notification that I decided to give One Day a chance. I’m so glad that I did and binged it in one sitting. Very profound.
I.found myself binging before i knew ir Its quite heart wrenchig Instead of having this one night of passion which we see most of the time in western show it was a bond that grew over the yrs They are each others anchors all the yrs The last episode was also about grief and moving on
I expected a shallow, brainless kind of show "à la" Emily in Paris, but it was anything but. More in the like of "Normal People" and, yes, I shed a few tears! I totally binge-watched it!
I have to say i saw the show and I loved it ! and if I'm being honest, it left me thinking some thoughts that were maybe always there? but there was the odd good thoughts yes, but sadly mostly bad ones. but we all take things in a different ways don't we
I binged watched it alone on Monday evening and didn't go to sleep until 2am. I binged watched it again on Friday eve but this time with my boyfriend. We finished at 3am. I cried more the 2nd time than the 1st. Maybe because I noticed so much more 2nd time viewing. Time and love....2 crucial elements for a successful relationship... it was nice to see the characters grow in their own ways over the years...
Great video and such a great mini series. I just wish they made 20 episodes for the 20 years they were friends/together. Towards the end, the years they spend together as a couple were packed into one episode. It would have been nice so see more of them together in more episodes.
I really loved your review! I really needed to discuss this series with someone, somewhere lol The only thing I may disagree with is, maybe it’s just me, I found Ian so annoying! I don’t think his visit was genuine. Everything else was extraordinary. Thanks for the discussion space.
I just finished the show and I'm just curled to on a couch scrolling through the comments for group empathy Fellas I'm a 29 year old married man who watched this without his wife.. we feel pain too 😭
Okay, let's be honest... who cried at least once during this TV show? 👀
Fam 5/6 times 😂😂

Seemed like growth and acceptance on the other side. She was more judgemental at other times! *though liking him throughout regardless

i don’t want to watch it anymore just because she dies like no they needed to make love have 3 babies and get married 😭😭😭😭
Cried pretty much through the whole episode so emetional ❤️
Yeah it was such a great show!
Loved the movie and i absolutely LOVED the series. Adorable and heartbreaking. Hopeful and crushing. Laughter and tears.
Yeah I preferred the series to the film!
In the book Ian doesn't visit Dexter instead he writes him a letter and I'm telling you its so wrenching. You should read it.
I expected a shallow, brainless kind of show "à la" Emily in Paris, but it was anything but. More in the like of "Normal People" and, yes, I shed a few tears! I totally binge-watched it!
Yeah it was just incredible!
That’s the difference between showbiz trash and shows that are adapted from books and thus actually have a plot and themes to follow and analyse
Someone please tell me.. the climax stair kissing..did it really happen in '88 or is it Dex imagining
it really happened

One word……..perfection.
It was so moving!
Skipped the entire final eps after the first scene. No regrets. Its just a show. Its just a show. DAMN IT😭😭😭😭
Hahaha, don't worry we were all feeling the same way at the end of it!
No was not ready for this movies 😭😭😭
Great video and such a great mini series. I just wish they made 20 episodes for the 20 years they were friends/together. Towards the end, the years they spend together as a couple were packed into one episode. It would have been nice so see more of them together in more episodes.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I really loved your review! I really needed to discuss this series with someone, somewhere lol The only thing I may disagree with is, maybe it’s just me, I found Ian so annoying! I don’t think his visit was genuine. Everything else was extraordinary. Thanks for the discussion space.
I just felt sad at the end.
LOVED THIS ONE
I just finished the show and I'm just curled to on a couch scrolling through the comments for group empathy
Fellas I'm a 29 year old married man who watched this without his wife.. we feel pain too 😭
This series is best than the movie. The casting are all great. I cried and so sad at ending.
Yeah I'd agree!
I enjoyed the show but also saw the film afterwards even though it came out first. Wow, that was a run on sentence
