Fun fact... after about 50 feet, because of the compression of the air in your lungs, you may no longer be bouyant enough to resurface automatically, even with a full breath of air.
I'm not even bouyant at surface level...I either need a lifevest or some other flotation Device with about 1.5-2l of air inside it. Yes I have tiny lungs. Paired with low fat and dense bones
I am a competitive swimmer so I already know but for people that haven’t experienced deep waters, this is very useful advice as a lot of people drown purely because of panic.
Andd im one of those ppl who always panicked in a deep water :( . Btw why do we drown because of panic ?, Like if there's a full of air in our lungs and we're panicking inside the water, would we be able to float still ?
People who can't float on your back without constantly propelling yourself, try this. Get on your back in the water, and put your hands together over your head, while relaxing your knees. The difference in balance for skinny people is amazing! I've always had to at least scull with my hands, but since I've been teaching swimming I've learned a few things. When you're skinny, your hips and legs get pulled down, and then even though your lungs might hold you up, your whole body wants to go vertical, which seems to drag you down further. Holding your hands together and extending your arms over your head moves your centers of gravity and buoyancy. Bending your knees does moves these too. The result is that I can now float on my back without moving. It still might not work if you're too skinny, but it's worth a shot.
@@zarrowthehorse It's not though, not everyone is built the same. It's about your center of gravity (CG) vs your center of buoyancy (CB). Most of your buoyancy comes from your lungs. For many people their CG is going to be more towards their feet than the CB is, so feet will tend to fall, and the rest of the body will fall after if you don't do anything to correct it. For years I would just lightly paddle with my feet, or scull with my hands, to keep my torso up while back floating. Then I took a course to become a swim instructor and the instructor of that class taught me that technique. It's what I teach now when my students are struggling to back float. Also, if you bend your knees while keeping your thighs flat, that shifts your CG more toward your head and makes it easier to keep your torso up.
that's suprising, as someone who was always super skinny and also underweight for some time, I got the floating without moving on my first try, even before learning swimming.
For the "non" swimmers. Do exactly like this if you're ever plunged into water. You'll automatically float back to the surface. Don't fight it that's how you drown. When you reach the top lean back and gently kick your feet and wave your arms beside you. This will allow you to float. Relax and concentrate on kicks and strokes. Never fight against the water. Hopefully you'll be saved quickly.
@@ggdk2865 I think they meant "won't" also most of us will naturally float back to the surface as long as your lungs are full but for some it's not the same, for example when one has a high bone density, a high muscle to fat ratio, or just really skinny they will probably sink so keep that in mind.

Most of the humans float, who have the needed density/fat percentage. As a swimmer, no matter what position you're in, just stay calm and collected and don't panic! We can easily lay on our backs floating. Some people with heavy muscles and less fat percentage will probably sink though. Still, there's much more to it.
"as long as your lung full of air, u will go up without doing anything" Thats what people been telling but I STILL CANT FLOAT (let alone swim) i dont trust myself that much 😭
You will float. Its not instantaneous. Its not like a basketball full of air or a life jacket that just shoots up and doesnt go down. It takes barely a second to float up but thats all. Signed, a scuba diver.

When I was a kid I used to blow out as much air from my lungs as possible, sit at the bottom of the pool and just relax. It was nice, it's satisfying to overcome the instinct to breath, lasting an easy minute underwater without breathing. I sometimes felt like I was under for like 5 minutes but the fact I was depriving my brain from oxygen probably skewed my perception of time. I was able to ignore the beginning instincts to struggle for air, however after a while under water I would begin to get the urge to breath again which I would listen to and get another breath. Honestly therapeutic, I don't blame the pool guard for dragging me out the pool and getting angry at me for worrying everyone though.
I'm with you, although I do know how to swim I refuse to get off the sides if the water reaches above my shoulders. Most horrifying experience is feeling like you are going to lose control. I get a mini heart attack when that happens
It helps if you ensure that you’re floating upwards and just kick. Straight legs, strong kicks. I’m bad at describing it but I find it pretty useful in floating back up as a pretty poor swimmer myself lol
@@hat5564 wow i didn’t know alot of people had trouble with this! i think it’s probably because i started at a young age (when we’re more reckless than ever) in fourth grade a bunch of us at our camp were swimming in the 12 footer, they did tests to make sure you were able to though. there were a few kids that had to stay in the shallow pool. there’s no shame in using floaties at first it could get you more comfortable in a little bit deeper! also, having other people in the pool helps TREMENDOUSLY. especially as kids when we were all together for some reason we wouldn’t hesitate to swim all around the deep end, but once me and a buddy snuck in torwards the end of the day to jump in and it was creepy af. maybe bc it was getting a little dark, but being kids completely alone with none of the lifeguards or adults around and we couldn’t see the bottom and we jumped tf out lmao. over time just being around people makes you feel a bit more secure, especially if you have someone who’s a good swimmer. anyways i hope this helps a bit, and if not that’s okay too because we all have different strengths and weaknesses. there’s plenty of things i’m bad at 😂
Does this guy breathe water???? because he didn’t cover his nose with his fingers… I know he is a professional but I don’t know how he does it like that for 20 seconds

My grandmother when she was young, back in the 1930s, use to swim in the Ohio River in Cincinnati, Ohio. She could swim all the way across the river to Kentucky and back. She could float for hours on water. She even said she had fallen asleep floating before, because when you are asleep all of your muscles relax and your body floats naturally.
@@shazeb.sk8531no lol I mean this is how plane crash survivors end up in stranded islands their bodies float in the water and normally deep sea isn’t so full of waves like the coast unless it’s raining or about to rain so yeah if you were wondering it is possible to float forever in water
@babyslugcatofdoom through your mouth. People who drown drown because they are too scared to take a breath, but it is a myth that we cannot breathe underwater, your lungs can filter the oxygen from the water. Just try it next time, I guarantee you it will work.
This remind me, when I was a kid I jumped into one of these thinking I was a confident swimmer, but the sudden dark depth scares the crap out of me, and I didn't float back up, instead stayed at the bottom grasping for air with a rapid pounding heart. Thank the gods someone was there and I was able to climb onto his feet and onto his body out of the water, with literal heart pain that last an entire day. That left a deep deep scar with such a sever trauma I lost all my swimming skills and never have I wander into waters deeper than my height.
When you fall into water, and water goes into your nose, the terror of not getting air is what makes you flail around. Getting used to being in water teaches your body that you'll survive. Watching videos will get your brain ready. But you really need to be in water more to get your body used to the feeling of being in water.
@@perseusgaming7397 I think that's because when people drown they started to get panic and moves as much as they can to survive but if you didn't know how to swim,it's will make it worse . Do u know a dead body flow up to the surface of the water 😷
I learnt about that "lungs full of air" quite recently. It's obvious now but I would always get annoyed when swimming in areas with aquatic life, that I couldn't stay at the bottom. I was running out of oxygen with my leg wrapped around a rock as an anchor, so I exhaled to blow out all the CO2 and suddenly my body just slumped onto the rock. I was immediately like oh shit I've just got to exhale once in position and I can sit here. It was so cool. I took a deep breath, swam down to somewhere to sit and watch, and then blew just enough air out to become ever so slightly heavy; just enough to sink. And then I just sat there still and motionless and it allowed my body not to burn excess oxygen and allow me to sit there for much longer. Really really cool experience and a great learning exercise. It also helped when I returned back to the villa, the pool had a broken tile on the bottom, but every time we tried to repair it, we'd float back up to the surface. So I just collected the tools I'd need, dropped them to the bottom, then breathed in, swam down, got into a sitting-cross-legged position and then exhaled again. Was able to repeat this process maybe 10 times before realising the job was bigger than me. But still awesome to just be sat down there working as if I was above the surface.
One time I almost drown in just a 7 ft pool. Life guard's panicking, about to rescue me until I remembered I can use my hands and feet to propel me out the water. Lmaooo. That's so epic.
Lol. Yeah that's one of the affects of stress and panicking. You can see it in combat, swimming, or all sorts of things. If you can learn to keep calm you'll be able to start thinking clearly and realise it's not that bad and start reaching better. :))
Its super easy to learn how to swim. I encourage everyone to do so. At least, learn to keep your head above the water, in case youre ever in an unfortunate situation that requires such to survive. Its on par with changing a tire, a lightbulb, learning how to sew, etc.
I'm drowned 5-6 times, 2 of it with life jacket on sea try to learn basic floating. At the end, I still can't swimming even floating. How dare you say it is super easy.
I always hated going to the bottom because of the intense pressure pain in the ears, but it was also fun seeing how easily or not I could get there with different techniques

Most of the humans float, who have the needed density/fat percentage. As a swimmer, no matter what position you're in, just stay calm and collected and don't panic! We can easily lay on our backs floating.
Some people with heavy muscles and less fat percentage will probably sink though. Still, there's much more to it.
Can we float in the middle of sea with the current and waves using the same back floating trick tho?

It helps if you ensure that you’re floating upwards and just kick. Straight legs, strong kicks. I’m bad at describing it but I find it pretty useful in floating back up as a pretty poor swimmer myself lol
@@hat5564 wow i didn’t know alot of people had trouble with this! i think it’s probably because i started at a young age (when we’re more reckless than ever) in fourth grade a bunch of us at our camp were swimming in the 12 footer, they did tests to make sure you were able to though. there were a few kids that had to stay in the shallow pool. there’s no shame in using floaties at first it could get you more comfortable in a little bit deeper! also, having other people in the pool helps TREMENDOUSLY. especially as kids when we were all together for some reason we wouldn’t hesitate to swim all around the deep end, but once me and a buddy snuck in torwards the end of the day to jump in and it was creepy af. maybe bc it was getting a little dark, but being kids completely alone with none of the lifeguards or adults around and we couldn’t see the bottom and we jumped tf out lmao. over time just being around people makes you feel a bit more secure, especially if you have someone who’s a good swimmer. anyways i hope this helps a bit, and if not that’s okay too because we all have different strengths and weaknesses. there’s plenty of things i’m bad at 😂
People are 90% water. And then bones, muscle, and fat. They don't float fast.
