Bionca Ellis faces judge on charges in 3-year-old boy's stabbing death outside Giant Eagle: $5M bond

- Bond has been set at $5 million for 32-year-old Bionca Ellis, the Cleveland woman accused of killing 3-year-old Julian Wood in a double stabbing outside of a Giant Eagle in North Olmsted.
Ellis is due back in court for a pretrial hearing at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 17, with Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge John Russo assigned to the case.
When the arraignment hearing first began, Ellis appeared via video while holding her head down as Judge Nancy Margaret Russo asked her a series of questions -- many of which Ellis did not answer.
Ellis was eventually brought into the courtroom where the judge read the indictment.
Prior to the judge announcing bond, Julian's father took a moment to address the court with the following statement:
"That day, one week ago, she took everything from us. There’s nothing that could ever replace my son or anything that my wife and I, even our other kids, are going through. It’s horrendous. I really wish no bail. Period. Or extend it to the maximum limit possible that you can, at the very least. Just do whatever you can to keep this monster behind bars.”

The question is whether she knew right from wrong. The insanity defense is a very high standard to meet. Maybe enough for mitigating circumstances to outweigh the aggravating ones in the eyes of a jury, thus avoiding the DP. We'll have to wait and see where this case goes.

If someone lack the intelligence / mental clarity or mental capacity to understand what they have done.. they literally aren’t allowed to impose the death sentence . They would need to conduct several different mental health evaluations to see if she really has mental health issue that would affect her ability to understand what she has done or what she was doing at the time

What you have described can fall under mental health issues, depending on the diagnoses and/ or if she has cognitive deficiencies. We will see what the qualified experts say after they give her a mental health assessment.

I hope when this trial is over they never have to think about this person again. There's no evidence this was motivated by anything. It was random. In fact, it was speculated that she chose this poor boy because she simply saw it as easier. Did anyone else see the video of her a few days before the attack she was in a wheel chair stopped by police and arrested! The day of the crime she was walking just fine after she stole the knife and then walked into the grocery store to stalk that poor family and kill that little boy! Then she answers yes in Spanish. People with true mental illness don’t act like this….she’s clearly doing everything on purpose to try to seem “crazy”. You can tell by the smug look on her face that she’s proud of what she did and she thinks she will get away with another crime by pretending to be mental….but she’s going to be locked up for life no matter what she does. I’ve been around true cases of people with schizophrenia, bipolar, autism, and other conditions….and she’s faking.
Well unfortunately some of the system had been buying it…did you hear that whining woman making excuses about “mental illness” and “being off her meds”. She was trying to get her released. Luckily this judge didn’t fall for that garbage and didn’t let that other woman take control. And yes…she is obviously acting. This isn’t how true mental illness patients act….everything she is doing is on purpose thinking she can trick people….but people who have been around real sufferers of real mental illness know the difference between fakers and the real thing….and she’s definitely a faker.
