You can then ask either your brother (they must be old and responsible enough), or your uncle (related by blood), or your grandfather (related by blood). Also this whole concept is followed to make sure that the woman has support, protection and financial support before she gets married.

I’m Christian and not Muslim but I think it’s awesome you would go to her father and ask and then if he agrees for you to take her to coffee or something along those lines without her being worried if anything else is expected from the encounter and then her and her father discuss it and decide if you would be a good match for her. If a daughter actually respects and trusts her father, she wants him to look at the guy first. Why would you not ask someone who understand better how man are and has more life-experience to warn you from a big mistake?

Prophet Mohammed PBUH teaches us to treat other dads daughters the way we want our daughters to be treated and what goes around comes around.
He forgot to mention polygamy where he has other wives, the mehr (bride price) and the dowry that the man has to pay for the girls family and that only rich men get married in Islamic countries because of this?
