  • Join me in breaking in (bedding) my new motorcycle brakes. I just recently replaced my front brake pads and changed both my rear and front brake fluid. So, I am bedding in my new brake pads and testing my brake system for smooth operation. If you are new to motorcycle riding and a Do It Yourself'er (DIY) like me, let me know if you enjoyed and learned something from this video!

So, what if I made a mistake a rode like I normally do, unaware of the break in period, but I only did it a few times, am I ok ? I rode with new brakes and they still sounded like metal on metal. I rode it like I normally do for only about 15 minutes, and then I started trying to follow the directions of 50mph, 40pmh, and so on. It's been less than 10 miles and they still sound like metal on metal, is that normal ?

The grinding sound is most likely your brakes forming to your rotors. This can happen and you might smell a weird odor from your new brakes. It is just everything settling in . But if you hear a loud squealing and it is hard to brake (as if they are not biting (gripping) as hard as they should) you might have glazed your rotors. The easy fix for that is cleaning your rotors. I have a video for changing brakes which I clean the rotors. I hope this helps!
