A huge thanks to Chris for helping with this video! Also, we just dropped some hot new merch. Wicked Man Greetings Card, Manufacturer Art Prints, and new pin badges! You can check them all out here: coasterbot.com/store
A thing that I personally appreciate about your videos is that when you give a height or speed data, you always "translate" it to "metres/feet" and "km/h / mph" ... As a european guy, I hate to constantly have to convert feet to metres to know how tall a coaster is... So thank you for these details : )
I'm from the UK and we use both metric and imperial units all the time. It makes sense to give both because then everyone is happy! So no problem at all :)
I slowed the playback speed to the slowest setting and I think you're right. It deffo looks like something flew out of that guy's hand. Idiot trying to film or take a photo? [eye roll]
Been such a massive fan of the channel for a long time, this is by far one of my proudest achievements! 🙏 You are a HUGE inspiration dude, just hope I've done you proud! 👍 Thanks for collaborating with me Harry! I'm sure this won't be the last 😉
It was my pleasure man! I had a blast working with you on these videos and I'm really happy with what we produced. There will definitely be more in the future! 😉👌
Can definitely see parks going more down the theming and experience route going forward, especially with the new records becoming increasingly difficult and unrealistic to be beaten.
That's what I thought before I found coaster information videos. Instead of putting the best coasters on my bucket list, I put the tallest and/or fastest coasters on my bucket list because I thought the tallest and fastest coaster is the best
True. ... I still wanna ride some of the extreme coasters though because they look fun. But I suppose if stats don't determine quality then it's just as possible for a high acceleration, tall, or fast coaster to be good as one that doesn't push it as hard, if it uses those attributes well!
Though that's potentially true, it isn't always. Fury 325 at Carowinds is the tallest and faster traditional roller coaster with a lift chain hill, and it has won the Golden Ticket award for world's best steel coaster 6 years in a row, or every year since its debut.
Absolutely. I like record breakers, but quality is where it’s at. Sure I’d like to ride the fastest and tallest complete circuit LSM launch coaster on earth, but Kondaa, Helix, Wodan, FLY, Taron, Shambhala, Untamed, and Zadra are the ones I REALLY want to ride. For Japan, the Steel Dragon 2000 (aka the longest coaster in the world looks great but it almost seems like it would be just an enlarged version of the mediocre Morgan hypers), so Bandit, Flying Dinosaur, Eejanaika, and Hakugei are now at the top of the bucket list from that nation.
Big fan of this collaboration. I always enjoy what you learn from a a Coaster Bot vid and Screwy Loops has a fab sense of humour. A good hybrid I reckon.
Give Yukon Striker some credit, it's not just constructed in order to take menial records, it fits extremely well into the new themed area of the park and is a decent first step towards making Canada's Wonderland more of a themed experience.
I'd love to see more of these collabs! Informative and funny😁 I think you're right but perhaps the world records will change - most aninatronics on a rollercoaster maybe?
Desperado was one of the tallest roller coasters in the world when it opened. It features a 225-foot (69 m) drop at an angle of 60 degrees, a 209-foot (64 m) lift hill, and a maximum speed of 80 mph (130 km/h).The coaster was listed by the Guinness Book of Records as the world's tallest roller coaster in 1996. The ride was provided by Arrow Dynamics
3:20 I dunno why but at that angle it looked like magnum had a dive loop for a moment and I was really really confused. Or maybe the sugar I had earlier wasn't actually sugar.
I deeply apologize for accusing you of copying a video idea, but I recently watched a video by Great American Coaters that is very similar to yours, but was released a whole week before this video. Titled: “Top 10 roller coaster records that will never be broken.” I just wanna make sure that neither you, or Great American Coasters get hate for this or anything. I enjoy both of your channels. Hopefully this is just a coincidence...
No worries, I appreciate you're looking out for other content creators. I first spoke to Christ about this video on the 7th October, a month before the video came out. We usually take weeks or months to script, record and edit our videos together. But the ball gets rolling well before that. I had the idea for this video a year ago and research began earlier in this year. But I wanted the video to be a collab so I waited for the right time. If we ever produce something similar to someone else, at roughly the same point in time, it'll always be coincidence.
Starting in the 70's: Who forgot Colossus, @SFMM; Loch Ness Monster @ Hershey Park and Desperado in Reno (the last one being in the mid 90's)? I could go back sixty more years before 1978 if necessary. I admit that most coasters in the U.S. operating before the Wall St. crash of 1929 have no record of them remaining. There were about 3,000 of them in the U.S. too! There are only about 650 in the U.S. now, and in China there are over 1,300! (albeit not as good on average.) There aren't many records remaining of any record breaking coasters from the late 20s through the early 70s. There are, however, still a large hand full of those records (and even a few still operating coasters) remaining that were build before the early 70's, but that's a complicated aspect of this topic and it'll have to wait another day, considering how long this comment is already. Having said that: I'm very happy to see that this topic is becoming popular again. Whilst stats aren't everything: Every coaster enthusiast ought to at least have access to those stats and the history of roller coasters breaking records, especially for the speed and drop. I'm curious, Harry, What was the longest coaster in 1975 you mentioned that was beaten by the Beast in 1979? Traditionally, record breaking coasters would potentially allow for bigger and taller and/or more numerous basic elements, eventually bigger drops and faster speeds and longer lengths and/or durations were used to deliver to us guests (now older coaster enthusiasts like me) the biggest duration of 1: sustained floater airtime, 2: speed, 3: duration; 4: strong positive Gs for troughs and short turn arounds to mix up the whole experience to add variety to the negative Gs; the the crown jewel of coaster elements. That was generally consistently true through the year 2000. While not as consistent it's generally still true today. As far as Six Flags Quiddyia: "Just take a look at the park's concept video and see for yourself: It makes No Limits fantasy coasters look vaguely realistic." That was very funny, Chris, LOL!
We did our own research on the records to verify what the well known record breakers were, and were surprised. The history of the world's tallest roller coaster that is common knowledge is wrong. Giant Coaster at Fuji-Q Highland opened in 1966 standing 40m 131ft high, making it taller than Colossus and Loch Ness Monster. As for the longest pre-1975, we've got it down as Big Dipper at Fairmount Park in 1923. It stood 1637 meters (5372 ft.) long. It's definitely interesting to see how roller coasters have evolved over time, and what is enthusiasts look for in roller coasters have evolved over time :)
@@coasterbot Thanks so much, I had no idea! That's bigger than Mr.Twister was at Illitch Gardens which I recently thought was the biggest coaster when I was born, (Twister at Knoebels isn't exactly the same thing but it's close). I'll look up Giant Coaster and the Big Dipper at Fairmont Park; if I have any questions I'll get back to you.
Nice pair of vids guys. on a side note after this years trip out to AT. Wickerman does feel to be getting abit more lumpy and jolty in places. mostly the turn arounds and the first big swoop out from bob

I'm pretty sure full-throttle at six flags magic mountain used to hold the record for the biggest loop but now it's "Flash" and I forgot where that is.
The park did say it was the world's tallest upon debut but were wrong. Giant Coaster opened in 1966 at Fuji-Q Highland and is taller than Loch Ness Monster :)
1:38 cry.. *when parks try to make rides to boast of records, but some of your favorite rides don’t actually have any (like my favorite wooden coaster, Terminator salvation at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California)
Ok, very excited to watch this. Going in blind, my take is that the evolution of world records will be in the form of worlds firsts and continuing innovation.
Tall roller coasters have become my least favourite over time. When I was younger I always thought, most important is a big drop and just the overall height. Nowadays I enjoy lower, faster coasters much more. Taron e.g. is by far my current favourite. It is just a great ride, great theming, overall an amazing expierence, so much more important than some stats.
I think parks will continue to use records (both real & made up) for as long as they continue to sell tickets... we're just seeing a shift from the engineers actually _building_ the records to the marketing teams having to _dream_ them up! Because for every one of us who (rightly!) roll our eyes at the ads for the _"tallest, fastest, most inverted, mega-strato-gigantocoaster"_ there's 100 others who want to ride it because it's a record-breaker and/or it gives them one more reason to visit that park instead of another one. 🤷♀
@@coasterbot Haha yep! Couldn't tell it apart too much from any of the other's I've ridden. It is a decent price though and fun to ride so I can't really complain. It's probably like 1cm taller than the other ones or something. ;)
Exactly, Zadra promoted as record breaking wooden roller coaster. I told them dozen times that they’re technically lying in comments under their Facebook Zadra promoting posts. I haven’t seen them for some time.
I myself think this is spot on! I love coasters but there are whole lot them that I haven't even ridden yet or.might not ever. But I dont know either way where the coaster world is going!🙂🙂
My favorite roller coaster "record" is Firebird at SFA: First floorless roller coaster in Maryland! This is true, but Maryland isn't exactly a large state, and there are literally 3 other floorless roller coasters within a few hours drive!
Series idea: Explain about different non-coaster rides such as Radiator Springs Racers and Frozen Ever After. It will be called Non-Coaster Rides Explained.
The reason we won't get new record breakers is there are enough chain park companies. You use to have paramount, premier, cedar fair, six flags, also with king island and six flags ohio not competitors anymore there is nothing to push cedar point to break insane records. Also cedar fair has more parks so lots of small rides makes more financial sence than a few big ones.
Last time I rode the Wicker Man it was a complete blur! Night time on the front row, it's so intense being pushed by the cars behind you! I feel the wood is going to break and fly off the track! that's what makes it a thrill.
This is the world's tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster that is painted in four shades of green, eclipsing the previous record holder which was only painted in two
It costly to make the longest, highest and fastest coaster. Not to mention the financial risks involved if they don't work out. More recent rides tend to go for theming or some form of innovation as their boasting point.
Aye, some german rides 😄 Krake looks super cool but I would love to have a mega/giga coaster near my hometown. Hopefully I can ride some in the US once the pandemic is under controll
@@coasterbot Yes! I've always planned to give Walibi a visit but all my friends like the Heide Park in Germany very much 🤣 Hope to convince them once covid is less of a problem
Well, record breaking coasters are expensive. And most parks don't need to have the tallest or the fastest coaster to increase attendance. Plus, there's still a lot of uncertainty about the pandemic. Park chains will probably wait a couple of years before they start making big investments.
its so sad that Shockwave at Great America was removed instead of the Whizzer, Six flags was going to remove it to make room for superman, and somehow the public petitioned them to keep the Whizzer, a kid's ride that is not only annoyingly loud, but the turns hurt so much and there are no inversions. Shockwave was like a historical coaster, thankfully it still lives in another Six Flags park and operates to this day, but why people... why did you have to keep the 2nd worst ride in the park (first being American Eagle). I'm happy it was at least replaced by Superman, but still, I'd rather have 2 adult coasters instead of the defunct whizzer. I know so many people have to regret that decision. I miss Shockwave more than any ride.
I just realized that Cedar point has been breaking every "100s" height records. First was Magnum, with 200 ft, next was Millenium Force, with 300 ft, and finally TTD at 400 ft. They broke the hyper, giga, and strata height. Now it's only a matter of time before they break the 500 ft record...
Cedar Point has never broken a height record. Moonsault Scramble was the first coaster over 200 feet, Tower of Terror II was the first coaster over 300 feet and Superman: Escape from Krypton was the first coaster over 400 feet. However, Cedar Point *did* build the first Hyper, Giga and Strata coaster.
I just finished watching your video! There are many similarities, we both definitely came to the same natural conclusion (which makes a lot of sense). I don't go around UA-cam watching other videos to steal ideas. Whenever something comes to my mind I write it in a list. Ideas may sit on the list for weeks, months or years before they get made (we're slow here at Coaster Bot). I genuinely don't mean to 'rip-off' other people's videos, that's not who I am. I apologise that we ended up making similar videos, but with so many channels out there doing this kind of stuff now it's inevitable!
A huge thanks to Chris for helping with this video! Also, we just dropped some hot new merch. Wicked Man Greetings Card, Manufacturer Art Prints, and new pin badges! You can check them all out here: coasterbot.com/store

I think so

6:44 I like how TTD is mildly swaying and the Kingda Ka is violently shaking and swinging around.

Series idea: Explain about different non-coaster rides such as Radiator Springs Racers and Frozen Ever After. It will be called Non-Coaster Rides Explained.
That's a great suggestion, I'll note it down :)

And Coaster Bot
What about the 600ft tall coaster coming to Orlando?
Oh yeah!
Last time I rode the Wicker Man it was a complete blur! Night time on the front row, it's so intense being pushed by the cars behind you! I feel the wood is going to break and fly off the track! that's what makes it a thrill.
That sounds awesome!
Ha Harry and Taylor uploaded at the same time
Personally I’d take a highly themed ride like Taron or The Wicker Man over a “record breaking” parking lot coaster.
There has been a new category of coasters announced since the release of this video:
Most Goodest coaster.
How would you define that? ;)
People racing to make a tallest building
Also people racing to make tallest roller coaster
You should do what is Cannibal at lagoon
We hope to in the future :)
This is the world's tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster that is painted in four shades of green, eclipsing the previous record holder which was only painted in two
Hell yeah
Good vid
(:
Thanks! :)
I think it’s on hold. I’m sure something huge will come soon.
Magic mountain fanboy here, you didn't mention goliath before millennium force
I find it weird as I was looking for screwy loops before screwy loops was introduced 👁 👄 👁
Krake does look super cool! Walibi Belguim is getting a hyper coaster which shouldn't be *too* far away? :)
Please do six flags great America explained
I'll note that down, thanks for the suggestion :)
You forgot to mention Steel Curtain's inversion record (9 inversions; most inversions on a roller coaster in the US)
Steel Curtain looks great! :)
No do not take them down because alot of people will stop going to the park if so because them rides is what brang people there
How fast is Rita at Alton towers?
I just realized that Cedar point has been breaking every "100s" height records. First was Magnum, with 200 ft, next was Millenium Force, with 300 ft, and finally TTD at 400 ft. They broke the hyper, giga, and strata height. Now it's only a matter of time before they break the 500 ft record...
It's pretty incredible honestly!
Hey, this video seems very similar to one of mine from last year... 😁
