The tune is really cool and the setting too. But the real hook here is pretty obvious for most heterosexual males. I had my own glory days, but nothing quite like this :D
Since no one has noticed it in the 9 years that this video has existed: very difficult to play guitar without a shoulder strap while walking; big props to Hugh Harris.
The part that makes this so great is when they emerge from behind the merc jeep and the people are looking at them as if they are just some random people/students walking down the street doing a cover of this song, then you see them look 2/3 times and can't belive it's actually the Kooks walking down the road for reel. Epic, ha !
omg i am shocked for several reasons 1) this is so good, pure expression, such a human experience 2) did youtube exist 16 years ago? wow 3) the fans singing gives me some beatles vibes and it's so wholesome
I'd also like to add that, in spite of the apparent simplicity of filming this type of video, this was the most FUN video since the inception of videos (unfortunately I'm old enough to seen the first ones). Who else (with a big budget or not in today's world) would have thought of this. Genius!! AND effective. Great stroke by the band and their management.
It's funny how he approaches the crowd with uncertainty. Then at 2:35 you can see he is contemplating whether to enter the screams. At the end he was happy to have done it. hahaha. Priceless.

"the English band the Kooks began playing their hit "ooh la" in a small street of Paris. Then, suddenly, a craze." the sweetest of kooks vids and one of the best i've seen, it's true paris life, fans and affections and that's the best!
I understand both reactions. The point of the filming is that people want to capture this phenomenale moment that struck them. But it's true; the moment itself is ruined by it. What a joy that LaBlogotheque does the filming for us, and we only have to sit back and enjoy the moment...!
Absolute quality... big fan of the kooks... because they just play anywhere, anytime for anyone... OOooo la.. she was such a good girl to me... I can feel a cover coming on... lol
HOLY CRAP!!!! Wow! This is amazing! Hahahahaha, I secretly hope that one day Luke's gonna enter in my room and start singing Ooh La. This is my dream !
Two days ago I heard them at their first concert in Peru. I've waited for this for so long. I remember coming back from school and listening to this song. It's been 12 years of this. Thank you guys.
I think it's amazing what they do right here. The Kooks are one of the few who really enjoy making music. I just can't imagine that The Killers (just an example) would do something like this. I met them backstage at Rock Werchter in Belgium, and they were so nice and spontanious They are just themselves and don't get to much into that 'omg, I'm famous, I'm rich'-thing That's what I love the most about them
I seen these live when they were supporting Noel Gallagher, they smashed it and had the place bouncing! Come back to watch this at 2am ffs. Happy new year everyone.
i'm sure someone has mentioned it (freaking flip-phones were the norm) but that last girl got me. you are presented with a "take away" show, on one hand yes maybe capture it (in 1 mega pixel 340p quality...maybe) or, enjoy the moment, and embrace that this band has taken their time to perform. they are literary staring at their phone and watching what is happening inches away from them. put it down, and enjoy. idk maybe i'm a boomer now.

Random night of 2021 and I come back to this video. It’s been sooooo many years… but still so amazing. It brings back so many memories…
So much nostalgia watching this. Back in that time right before all the phones and social media
Smartphones certainly turned society to shit.
I watch this once a year.
Since no one has noticed it in the 9 years that this video has existed: very difficult to play guitar without a shoulder strap while walking; big props to Hugh Harris.
Not really all that hard
+Daniel Garduno it IS annoying to do.......
And it s not a full size one...
It's extremely hard if the strap has a twist in it tho ;)
look how high he wears it. shouldnt be too hard for him lol
Damn!!!! It makes me cry... I miss those days, i was 13 years old, now im 27 and i still love it.
same!
Same 😭😭😭😭
If you were 13 then you'll be 30 now.

I first discovered The Kooks with this performance and immediatly fell in love with them. Still coming back to this video 14 years later

When Luke first stands up Hugh just looks at him like "are we seriously about to stand up."

His voice sounds so good. One of the best live versions on this song I've seen.
Kooks for life! Brilliant songwriting! I'm a songwriter, they inspire me more than the Beatles as of late.
Yes The kooks is life! 😇😁
more than beatles? just can be a joke hahaha
I can't cry at anything apart from The Kooks and the thought of the boy I'm in love with leaving :')

Love how this video plays out.
Great song. Great band. Filmed with a potato.
This comment made my day! xD SO True
It was recorded in 2006 in that time UA-cam didn't even support 480p videos, HD was unimaginable. :/
