The "Flock Of Seagulls" music is "A Time Machine" to me! When I "Listen" I am actually transported to the Early 1980s and can "See and Feel" all the situations and places and people of that wonderful Era! ❤😂😼
My all time fav group! True story, I was at an estate sale last week, found their self titled cassette! Grabbed it before anyone else could get their hands on it. I felt as if I struck gold!!! Then went out and bought a cassette player, just to hear their cassette. I felt like I was 15 yrs old again.
My first exposure to A Flock of Seagulls goes like this. I was active military in 1983. We had a four man crew heading to an isolated job site. We were in a small town in Nebraska and driving through endless fields of corn. All four of us were in a great mood, talking and laughing, very rowdy and loud. Then this song comes on the radio and stunned us into silence... all four of us. We were hypnotized by this amazing song, not just hearing it, but feeling it. It was an airy, futuristic song, but it definitely had heart and soul, and a very effective guitar. We didn't want this song to ever end, but of course it had to. When it ended, the disc jockey informed us that it was a new English band called "A Flock of Seagulls" and the song was titled "I Ran." I don't think any of us spoke for the next ten minutes, we were just basking in a melancholy, but yet, very happy and satisfied mood. When we finally completed our job, we drove to the music shop located in that small Nebraska town and all four of us bought A Flock of Seagulls on cassette ... the last remaining 4 copies that the store had. Flash forward 40 years, and I'm still loving this band. I have their entire catalog, including Mike's solo record. This music is truly timeless, and remains highly effective regardless of how often or how many times you listen to it. I feel that Mike Score is a genius. This man actually wrote, played and captured a sound that he was feeling, and those of us that are lucky enough feel it too. I send Mike Score and the band 40 years worth of gratitude.
I was born in Liverpool but brought up in Ireland, their is something creative in the city that is steeped in celtic history of song, dance, story telling. FoS, China Crisis, The Christians, Black, Teardrop Explodes, Echo and the Bunnymen, Lotus Eaters, OMD, The pale fountains.. Liverpool produced great bands in the 80's.
Just ran across this... made me cry! My only brother passed away at 58 in 2019... he and I were into 80s music and Flock of Seagulls was one of his favorites. The more electronic the better for him... yet he also dearly loved Aimee Mann, Enya, even The Carpenters. He and I would watch MTV for hours. His intense love of all music inspires me every day ❤
This song passed me by during the 80s but during lock down I was browsing UA-cam and the video featuring Jennifer Connolly from career opportunities caught my eye. I hit play and immediately thought 'wow. What a tune." I played it repeatedly during 2020 and never tire of hearing it. The version with the Prague philharmonic orchestra is fantastic.
Agreed - this song sounds like nothing else. The soaring, ethereal guitar and synth drums over the driving beat is so uplifting! Love to see how Score is such a humble, intelligent man full of gratitude for the experience he's had. He sounds like the sort of person who really deserves all the good that's come his way. This is a superb episode!
Respectfully, it didn't take 40 years for us to figure that out, but after 40 years it is now indisputable how amazing this song always was. The true mark of a genuine classic is that it sounds just as good 40-50 years later, as it did when it came out. It is just as relevant today as it was then: timeless.
I was 13 yrs old when I heard this song and the band!! I can still sing it word for word!! Times were so much easier!! Those days are gone but, never forgotten. Loved growing up with this music. Live love and remember!!
Nothing against "I Ran", but I've always put "Space Age Love Song" and "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)" as their best songs. I can't pinpoint what it is, but both have serious emotional resonance with me.
Space Age Love Song is also one of my favorites of all time, not just of the new wave genre. Telecommunication, The More You Live, The More You Love and The Story of a Young Heart are in there too.
I got goosebumps the first time I heard the song. It was when the single was first released, and I couldn't get it out of my head. Shortly after I had the album and wore it out. Since then I've listened to it more times than I can recollect. And yes I agree the song was, and is fifty years ahead of it's time. One of the best bands ever!
"Space Age Love Song" is my all time favorite 80's song! I love the energy that the beat brings. Just one of the best non-hit songs that should be on everyone's play list!
My God! The memories are just tumbling out of the dust that is my mind! I grew up on the Stones, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd and (at the time) Iron Maiden. This came out in my High School graduation year and I thought it was utterly amazing. Still love it and that entire era of music. Thank you!!
So many people see flock of seagulls as a one hit wonder with their classic I Ran, but to me this song demonstrates a depth to their sound and talent that transcends that original hit. Oh, how your channel brings back so many wonderful memories of being a teenager in high school and listening to this one on the radio. As always, great tune to highlight, great interview with the artist and overall excellent content from your channel. Nice work my friend. :)
I absolutely LOVE Space Age Love Song!!! Oddly, I barely remember the song from my youth, tho I loved A Flock of Seagulls specifically I recall being obsessed with The More You Live The More You Love. I heard Space Age Love Song again about 4-5 years ago and loved it. I don’t think a week has gone by since then that I haven’t played it, fantastic song, incomparable sound and the guitar work is exceptional to me!
Saw "I Ran" on MTV in '82 and went to the Mall as soon as I could to get the tape. Wore that sucker OUT. Modern Love Is Automatic, Messages, I Ran, Space Age Love Song, You Can Run, Telecommunication, Standing In The Doorway, D. N. A, Man Made are ALL great songs. I believe D.N.A. could have been a fan fave like "Space Age Love Song", had there been lyrics. Thanks for the video!
My favorite song of the 80s. People that don't know any better always snicker when i say a flock of seagulls sing my favorite 80s song and the immediately think i ran. Too many people aren't familiar with this absolute gem
@@Susiecat24 And they weren't. They faded i to oblivion when he left the band. I forget the stor. I think they moved to the US but he chose to stay in the UK...don't wanna swear to that.
@@TheRagingPlatypus And an inventive one at that. But plenty of other New Wave bands--depending how you define them--had good to outstanding guitarists. Andy Summers (The Police), John McGeoch (Magazine, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Armoury Show), Warren Cuccurullo (Missing Persons), Elliott Easton (The Cars), the Mothersbaugh brothers (Devo), etc.
When my mother passed away after a valiant battle with multiple myeloma, this song immediately filled my mind, almost as a coping mechanism. I imagined her in her youth, dancing to this song and smiling. I think it’s that special, almost as a soundtrack for her journey on to heaven. Very hard to describe the sentiment as I never expected it to serve in this fashion for me personally.
I fell in love with this song 40 years ago and It still makes me happy when I hear it today. I hear this song no less than 5 times a week still on my 80's spotify playlist which I play everyday working, cooking, taking a shower etc. I am 54 years old and I will NEVER EVER get tired of this song. Also the Career Opportunities movie video on UA-cam of this song makes me smile from ear to ear. I always wished I could be the guy working in Target that night that gets to roller skate and hang out all night with Jennifer Connelly. Truly one of the greatest 80's songs ever!
Is it just me or is the drumming extraordinary in I ran? I love the way the drum solo leads into the guitar solo. The base player playing furiously, it is an amazing achievement for all. It is in fact a masterpiece❤ from Australia.
“Space Age Love Song” and “Wishing” are 80’s magic!!!! Always instantly transports me back in time and makes me feel like nothings impossible!! Thanks again Professor.
One of the more incredible uses of the song was in the Cartoon Network show "Symbionic Titan". The animated show was inspired by Genndy Tartovsky's love of the old anime and Sentai tropes of combining robots, aliens exiled to earth and having to defend the planet in order to protect themselves. While in anime fandom there's been a long tradition of fan-made anime music videos (I have some on VHS that are 35 years old), Gt took it up a notch, and in one episode of the series, the girl that's fallen hard for the heroes robot member (in his human disguise) is practically entranced, dancing with SALS in her heart (and full volume in the show), totally oblivious to the battle down at the seashore between the heroes in their 100 foot robot form and an alien invader of similar size - with the battle lasting throughout the entire song.
There are some songs that have a quality or sounds that affect my brain in some bizarre way or something I can’t quite put into words but absolutely makes me feel something transcendent. This is one of them, one of the best in fact. Absolutely love it, and always will.
For sure. I was making a playlist of 80s songs I will always love until the day I die, and I started hesitating when I got to 1983…it’s hard not to go ahead and put all of them on there!
It was the pinnacle of analog studio equipment and the musicians, producers, & engineers who knew how to get the best out of it. Digital is, of course, a fait accompli. Has been for decades. However, those superbly produced albums from the 80s will always sound superior to my ear. Well, maybe not "always"..
I saw them at JFK stadium in Philly, they tried to start the first song three times, lead singer kept passing out on stage, they finally got one song out and that was it for them, thank God there was still Elvis Costello, Blondie and Genesis sober enough to do their job.
There was a kind of reference to them in the movie "The Commitments" where they were searching for a name for their new band... one guy suggested "FLOCK OF BUDGIES" LOL.
@@chuckjohnson5235No, it’s a fan made video where the fan just picked a song and picked a video. There are a few videos with other 80s brunettes with a picked 80s song.
Me too! I remember this song, but not like I remembered it with that video of Connelly. Like hyper remember. Amazing timeless song and band. Like all greats , never truly understood until long after
I am 63 and love this song. One of the best songs to come out of the 80s and there are several that came from that era. But there is something special about this song …what a masterpiece.
I will be 69 in June...I completely ignored this song when it came out, and for 30 years afterward...about 10 years ago, for no apparent reason, I clicked on the UA-cam video...I have probably listened to it a thousand times since then, and it is easily one of my all-time favorites..
This is such a complete song! My AFOS favorite. Although they have tons of songs that I love, I can listen to this on repeat over and over! Sonically awesome! Saw them in concert last night (only Mike Score sadly) and my teenage daughters completely loved it!
Space Age Love Song is one of my very favorite songs of all time! It's just perfect. I'm 59 years old and it's been on my playlists and mix tapes since the 80's ❤
Simply put it’s my favorite song of all time. We saw them last year at EPCOT and met Mike between the shows. Dude was awesome, spoke with us for about 8 or 10 minutes and took some pictures too. Super cool guy.
I don't have specific memories of this song, it just seems it was ever present during the 80's. Every high school party, every mix tape someone had playing in their car, it was always present. It's certainly one of the best songs of the decade. This is a great look back!! Thanks!
Totally agree, that this song is still ahead of time. Still remember when I first heard this song in 1986, while growing up in Singapore on the radio. Never knew who sang that song until five years later, in Newfoundland Canada. I watched Career Opportunities with Frank Whaley and Jennifer Connelly. I fell in love with the song again (and of course, Jennifer Connelly 🙂 and remember buying the CD of Flock of Seagulls. IT is definitely one of my favourite songs from the 1980s. Still in love with songs more than 45 years later since I first heard in 1986. Love your interview with Mike Score. And love the newest version with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra!!!
This song is just so epic! It floods back all the fun we had as a kid in the 80's. Just makes me want to get in a convertible and drive down the coast blasting this song! It is simple, but it was epic genius all in one...Timeless!
Totally agree with you; Space Age Love Song is the greatest song of the 80's, and there were a lot of great songs. It defines the era. Loved this interview with Mike. Thank you.
How come nobody is brave enough to say that Paul Reynolds' guitar was totally "adopted" by The Edge and U2 ? The bass player's look is also very Adam Clayton.... Hmmm....
I was 7 years old, MTV on my television constantly with Flock of Seagulls snd Duran Duran on heavy rotation! Flock of Seagulls are such an UNDERRATED band! I feel blessed to have grown up in the greatest decade known to man!
By far my most favorite song ever by A flock of seagulls. The guitar riff completely reminds me of something that The Edge would do in a U2 song. Took a good song and made it a complete masterpiece.
@@eightiesmusic1984 I think I know where he's coming from, though. Without looking over U2's early work, I can see how someone might say it reminded them of "Electric Co." from Boy. I'm not sure what the correct terminology is but there is one guitar part that is subtle, perhaps muted which is sharply contrasted against the other part which is more open and with higher notes.
love the hell out of this song, came out the year I was born and did not hear it until about 5 years ago there is an fmv of this song with career opportunities that is great
Thank you for giving this iconic song it’s due! It has always been one of my favorite songs from the entire decade. I used to share it with people, and for a long time no one had heard it before I shared it with them. Now all of a sudden it’s back, and all I can say is, it’s about time!
It’s one of the best songs EVER. Now, I’m thinking of recommending this song to a bunch of teachers at my school tomorrow so they can just see how much I love it.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mike Score, at his concert here at Riverbend Cincinnati Ohio. I went to get a beer and I passed a security guy and said "Hey, tell Mike Score I'd like to meet him" and he went and got him! I couldn't believe it! He was the sweetest, kindest person and I was so excited I kissed his hand! Lol! Well, I was a little drunk too! Lol! He was my first crush and he will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for doing this video, Professor! What an amazing band then and now! Take care, my friend ♥️
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 Thank you so much XxLilly! That's exactly how I feel, lucky! It was a once in a lifetime chance and I'm so glad I asked to meet him. Can you imagine my face, when the security guard said, "Hold on I'll be right back!" I appreciate your comment, my friend. Take care and if you ever see TFOS, just walk up to the security and ask if you can meet Mike Score! You might get your wish too! All my best 🙏♥️
Truely one of your best interviews. The interview was art itself. After all these years, the song still makes me feel good. The collaboration with the philharmonic is an absolute masterpiece.
I am 68 years of age and yet I just purchased a T-Shirt of A Flock of Seagulls and I will be wearing it soon and everywhere. I Ran So Far Away came to my Music lovig Life and it blew me away...Wow. It was way ahead of any music I had heard. I played that song sooo many times...soo many!! Soon afterward their Space Age Song came upon the music world and again Wow...Paul's Guitar part of the song was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G....as he is. I listen to it soo very often, but once it finishes. I play it again as it is out of this World Awesome! Love the 80's so many Awesome Bands!!
Thank you so much for profiling this song! I found this song in 1989 when I was working at a record store where I met my husband. The album this song was on was essentially the soundtrack to our relationship. This along with Telecommunication is one of my very favorites. It does give me goosebumps to hear it. ❤️
I saw them with The Thompson Twins at U.C. Davis back in '85 or so. The "wall of sound" is REAL. Their song "Remember David" just blasted through your body. Incredible feeling.
I'm nearly 50 now, but FOS's greatest song I felt was 'Photograph' and that amazing video!!!! I had a jukebox set list in my drunken late 20's and 30's in the pub nights out along with 'Bring out the dancing horses among others....... omd enola gay too! Great songs that just get me in a mood of the night!!!!! It's great to hear how the band started and that hair style! FOREVER ICON song for me Photograph (Wishing). It's the beginning of it and the immenseness of the rifs and keys..... the universe and the woman dancing in his mind! Back then we had no phones or internet, so all you had was the wish you took a picture of that dream girl you met the night before, but the night is over and you never to see her again! I know we are here to talk about Space Age Lovesong, its good like, but it passed me by too. I guess it's because I was never 'into' or a fan, it was just THAT song Photograph! If I was on a desert island and I could only pick 3 1980's songs on vinyl it would be Enola Gay (1980), Wishing (1982), Bring on the Dancing Horses (1985).
Being a kid in the Philippines in the 80's, these guys were everywhere with "The More You Live, The More You Love". But "Space Age Love Song" has its own romantic appeal; very poignant, and evokes many wondrous, youthful memories. Loved how it was featured in "Career Opportunities". Thanks Professor for the great video and interview, thanks to Mike Score and the band for such great songs! Please keep reminding everyone what great music is and when they were from!
It was never featured in _'Carreer Opportunities'._ The video with Jennifer Connely and scenes from the film was a fan-made video. It's not and never was an official video...
@@piper888 in my head yes lol! The brain does not know the difference between memory and present thoughts when it comes to emotions. This song is super evocative of a time in my life when I was a teenager.
Yep yep YEP!!! Transports me right back in time in a way other songs cannot. Something magical about it... ethereal, majestic... human but coming from somewhere else in the future. Lol...
I met Mike at a Flock of Seagulls concert a few years ago. I was wearing a wig styled like his hair back then. I had heard the story of the hair being a happy accident. The hair was awesome. We were able to take a picture with Mike. Great Guy. I hated I Ran when it first came out but quickly fell in love with it and Flock of Seagulls. Have loved them ever since. Space Age is one of my all time favorite songs. Mike is number one! Awesome song, Thanks to Mike and Flock of Seagulls.
I love this song! You're totally right about it being ahead of it's time, the first time I heard it, probably only about 5 years ago, I had two thoughts, 'this sounds like Flock of Seagulls', and then directly after 'but it sounds so current'...
I worked in a drug store, and we sold current top albums, and when this came I snagged it before it went on display. I had heard it on the radio and knew it was written for me! Lol! Right up my alley! Bought the next two albums and loved them as well. I still have their music in my iTunes library and play it regularly. But that first album.....no skippers on that one!
I still listen to Space Age Love Song regularly. It's both timeless and of it's time.It instantly brings me back to the 80's ,and also takes me away to some dreamland.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I said to myself, "That's Mike Score! They're talking about 'Space Age Love Song!!'" I've always loved this song, and more so than "I Ran," though I intend no shade at all on their "big hit." I've always thought it funny that people remember A Flock of Seagulls for the song "I Ran," and the hair style from the video "Space Age Love Song." Their doing "Space Age Love Song" with the Prague Philharmonic is beautiful, I love it so much. 💖💖💖
In 83 I was 17, these music artists seem like they were from another planet and it is so cool to see that they are just regular people down to earth that followed their dreams.
Lived in Winter Park Fla. Late '80s, had this cool English neighbor named Mike that I'd talk to all the time. Really down to earth guy, always heard music from his house... didn't think nothing of it. Just before I moved from Orlando, I found out that one of my favorite bands "The Flock of Seagulls" wuz playing in a club called "Visage" on the other side of town. Got a ticket and a ride...primed for a night of Sonic Bliss. All the band came on stage and started playing my favorite song...a instrumental called "Tanglimerma" as an opening.... I wuz in heaven ‼️ then lo-n-behold who walks out on stage❓ my neighbor, Mike...my neighbor wuz Mike Score, the lead of my favorite band...it wuz the hair, he didn't have the "Owl" look...and a few years older than his album look. Got to talk with him at the end of the show and to have a laugh‼️ really good, Top Shelf kinda guy 👍 I am honored to have known him....will always BA big fan of him and his work.
This song along with Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) literally take me to an ethereal high. It was a pity that these guys could not keep it going for the remainder of the decade.
Thank you for covering this song Professor!! The song does create a lush atmosphere. It is so amazing how it all seems to fit! The hairstyles, the sounds ... the melodies....the title of the song...it is all perfection! I remember having such a huge crush on this one girl in high school when this song hit! Even to this day, the song reminds me of her. The song has a gorgeous, lush soundscape.....
Professor, you’re 100% correct, as always. I’ve got 58 years on this earth listening to music, to back up the FACT that you are, the genuine professor of Rock.
Poll: What is your pick for the greatest "non hit" from the 80s?
I'd probably go with an Alphaville song... People knew Forever Young and Big in Japan, but what about Dance with Me, Jet Set, and so many others!
I'll go with anything by The Alarm. Always overshadowed by U2, but great songs and albums. Mike Peters is also the nicest dude on the planet.

I am a guitarist. I love Flock of Seagulls! They were completely brilliant. Paul Reynolds is so underrated.
Yes! If not for Paul they wouldn't have been as great as they were.
Absolutely. Reynolds is the secret sauce that made the band great. He deserves way more attention.
A flock of Seagulls is so interesting because they were New Wave with an actual guitar player.
Awesome band, great songs, they deserve to be much more celebrated.
I like how down-to-Earth and regular this guy is. Great interview.
Me too.
This Song sounds very 80's dated however Pink Floyd doesn't!
@@pmoran7971 yea i dont know what he was going on about. it doesnt sound ahead of its time at all. great song but it sounds extremely 80s and dated.
What great ride this guy has had.
I think their song I RAN was one of the greatest songs of the 1980's
@@pmoran7971 Disagree. Pink Floyd is however very overrated.
AFOS one of my favourites 1982/83 and still listen to them today! Paul Reynolds amazing guitarrist. Underrated.
“Space Age Love Song” and “Wishing” are 80’s magic!!!! Always instantly transports me back in time and makes me feel like nothings impossible!! Thanks again Professor.
You're welcome!
The version of SALS recorded with the Prague symphony is stunning.
Agreed - I'd be hard pressed to pick between "Space Age Love Song" and "Wishing" as to which hits me harder in the nostalgia.
Both wonderful songs!
There are some songs that have a quality or sounds that affect my brain in some bizarre way or something I can’t quite put into words but absolutely makes me feel something transcendent. This is one of them, one of the best in fact. Absolutely love it, and always will.
80s has so much iconic and unique music, it would definitely be a challenge to list the greatest of each year of the decade. Great work!
Yes, that song gives me chills from the day I bought the album in 83.
I MET MIKE SCORE WHEN THEY PLAYED HERE ON LONG ISLAND ...80S ROCK SHOW .. IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!!
HE WAS SUPER NICE TOO!!!❤❤❤👍👍👍
What a humble lovely man. Space age love song, The more you live and I ran are in my list of the most beautiful songs of the 80s.
The Flock of Seagulls were extremely underrated.
Loved all the "new wave" during the 80s.
I agree 100%
I saw them at JFK stadium in Philly, they tried to start the first song three times, lead singer kept passing out on stage, they finally got one song out and that was it for them, thank God there was still Elvis Costello, Blondie and Genesis sober enough to do their job.
@@Allie-oop wow,, would've loved seeing Blondie during that era but I was only 13 at the time in 83.
I love Flock of Seagulls. Wishing is another favorite of mine.
There was a kind of reference to them in the movie "The Commitments" where they were searching for a name for their new band... one guy suggested "FLOCK OF BUDGIES" LOL.
This song along with The More You Live The More You Love and Wishing were just my favorite songs and they always played it great live.
Reynolds’s guitar work really made their sound unique. Personally, I love the video with Jennifer Connolly the most. 😊
It made the song much more memorable!!!
Is the song even in the movie though?
@@chuckjohnson5235No, it’s a fan made video where the fan just picked a song and picked a video. There are a few videos with other 80s brunettes with a picked 80s song.
Me too! I remember this song, but not like I remembered it with that video of Connelly. Like hyper remember. Amazing timeless song and band. Like all greats , never truly understood until long after
I agree. I play guitar, and in my opinion, he is one of the most underrated guitarists.
Better late than never!
Space age love song is just too beautiful
Every time I hear it even off in the distance I become mesmerized
God..this song is such a benchmark of my youth…it just makes you smile..!!!
I’ve said this before in other comments but THANK YOU for the interviews
This is such a complete song! My AFOS favorite. Although they have tons of songs that I love, I can listen to this on repeat over and over! Sonically awesome! Saw them in concert last night (only Mike Score sadly) and my teenage daughters completely loved it!
Space Age Love Song is one of my very favorite songs of all time! It's just perfect. I'm 59 years old and it's been on my playlists and mix tapes since the 80's ❤
It’s probably in my top 30 favorite songs ever.
Tha guitar play of P. Reynolds makes the song mesmerizing, Paul's guitar is the pattern of 80s music.
That entire album is still up there for me. Brilliant. And I’m so glad you’re giving “Space Age Love Song” the attention it deserves. Thanks.
Space Age Love Song with Prague Philharmonic orchestra. Absolutely amazing! Listen to it regularly and never get tired of it!
Mike Score is such a nice person and so grounded. I always enjoy his interviews.
Very unassuming. Feel like you could know him a decade then randomly find out he's a rockstar.
He’s great!
He really isn’t. His arrogance is acidic. Or at least that’s what he was like. I hope he has mellowed over the years.
Very few songs can throw my mind back to my senior year in high-school like Space Age Love Song! It is a forever #1 in my book. 😊
My girlfriend and I have been together 7 years. This is our song.
It's just perfect!
Simply put it’s my favorite song of all time. We saw them last year at EPCOT and met Mike between the shows. Dude was awesome, spoke with us for about 8 or 10 minutes and took some pictures too. Super cool guy.
Pure, distilled 80s sound and imagery. Songs and bands like this are why the 80s was such a fantastic time for music.
They just don’t make songs like that anymore. Pure brilliance.
Very nice! Great story. I agree, Jennifer Connelly was a looker.
One of my top favorite songs of all time…..puts me in a good mood every time. Fantastic!
The best way I can describe how this song makes me feel is nostalgia for something that hasn't happened yet.
Same!
This song is just so epic! It floods back all the fun we had as a kid in the 80's. Just makes me want to get in a convertible and drive down the coast blasting this song! It is simple, but it was epic genius all in one...Timeless!
I just love the Seagulls their music never gets old.
And yes Space Love Song IS one of those perfect songs. 😍
It’s a masterpiece.
Totally agree with you; Space Age Love Song is the greatest song of the 80's, and there were a lot of great songs. It defines the era. Loved this interview with Mike. Thank you.
Space Age Love Song was my favorite from Flock of Seagulls. It would stop me in my tracks every time I heard it. I wanted the song to last forever.
Yes!
I turn up the volume every time I hear those first notes, so unique and unforgettable.
✌️
Same!
They used it in a documentary called Chasing Ghosts about the arcade player greats from the 80s.
Me too. I really wanted to jump into the music video for the song when I first heard it.
Except The Edge's sound is completely different.
@@eightiesmusic1984 for sure. I just meant the way he added those little single note lines and texture to the songs. Didn't just bang on chords.
One of the greatest songs of the 80s…
@@eightiesmusic1984 I think I know where he's coming from, though. Without looking over U2's early work, I can see how someone might say it reminded them of "Electric Co." from Boy. I'm not sure what the correct terminology is but there is one guitar part that is subtle, perhaps muted which is sharply contrasted against the other part which is more open and with higher notes.
I loved the song still love this band. I spend hours listening to this band. Thank you for giving this band some credit.
This is possibly the most underrated '80s song. I never get tired of hearing it. Damn, those guitars are great!
You speak the truth.
For sure. One of those songs that stops you in your tracks the whole time.
love the hell out of this song, came out the year I was born and did not hear it until about 5 years ago
there is an fmv of this song with career opportunities that is great
Thank you for giving this iconic song it’s due!
My favorite FOS song as well. I love how the vocals soar into the ether.
You are super lucky!
@@vannaty7 I imagine you were biting your nails at this moment!
Truely one of your best interviews. The interview was art itself. After all these years, the song still makes me feel good. The collaboration with the philharmonic is an absolute masterpiece.
They also did a great take of this awesome song with the Prague Orchestra and even after all these years, great to see and hear these guys! Thank you
I am 68 years of age and yet I just purchased a T-Shirt of A Flock of Seagulls and I will be wearing it soon and everywhere.
Space age love is one my all time favorites, in my late teens what a beautiful time.
This was my favorite Flock of Seagulls song back in the day. Great video, Professor!
This is my favorite Flock of Seagulls song, for sure. One of my favorites ever!❤❤
Remember seeing them live and ending up in the pit at the front in Birmingham. Went home with my ears ringing but fantastic night.
When this comes on the radio, I'm literally transported to the 80's. This song embodies the whole vibe of the decade imo!
It really takes me out of reality and to a perfect world where everything is cool.
This song gets me imagining classic Thomas the tank engine. Particularly shots of the engines running fast
Literally??
It sounds way ahead of its time, for sure.
Love this song so much! Also love their re-recording back a couple of years ago. This song could be one of my favorite 80s songs ever.
Super cool album!
I still listen to Space Age Love Song regularly. It's both timeless and of it's time.It instantly brings me back to the 80's ,and also takes me away to some dreamland.
I appreciate his honesty about their abilities when they started out. They made the best of what they had and made some memorable songs.
I really enjoyed him.
Such otherworldly music.
The Story of a young heart is also top notch.Paul Reynolds! Wow!
One of my favorite bands from the 80’s they are always on my playlist. Thanks for the awesome videos!!
My shed bar is almost finished! The 80's rock! Adam-come up with a great 80's channel-I would pay!
It’s like you’re traveling into another cool dimension. They should have been much bigger than they were.
One of the most underated 80s band. I never tired of those songs.
Thanks for listening
Back then girls had a gorgeous lush landscape! I hear!
It took me about a month to get used to this song, because I thought it sounded weird at first, which is why I ended up loving it.
The Flock of Seagulls were WAY WAY ahead of their time !!! This is perhaps the most beautiful song I have heard !!!
I recently discovered this song. I love it! How did we miss such a great song?
Better (very) late than never!
Professor, you’re 100% correct, as always. I’ve got 58 years on this earth listening to music, to back up the FACT that you are, the genuine professor of Rock.
