    Can you imagine that we hadn't yet been to Germany to explore what German watchmaking is all about!!! Well this is now a thing of the past and I'm pretty sure that it will lead to some many more trips and discover more about it.
    For the time being, we were very kindly invited by the organisers of the Dubai Watch Week for a 4-day trip and this was a fantastic experience in the Glashütte region of Saxony where we visited no less than Nomos, Moritz Grossmann, Tutima, Wempe, Lang & Heyne and the historic local watchmaking museum.
    We also got the chance of encountering a great man, Mr.Gerd-Rüdiger Lang, founder of Chronoswiss, who shared with us his rich professional career and love of watchmaking.
    Enjoy!

    Wonderful video as always !
    I found the pictures in the plants especially interesting.
    It is pretty nutty the amount of finishing and corresponding expense such as polishing screws.
    Reminds me of the Lancia Appia's very beautiful and expensive to manufacture "jacks" in case of flat tires.
    I think you summarized it beautifully that watchmaking was "Essential Art".

    Another great presentation Mads, good to see WEMPE training people .The last time I spoke to the watch maker I use here in Sydney , he had been to a local watch and clock makers function , he told me he was one of the youngest there and he is near retirement age....I think that your chanell helps to promote the craft and appreciation and well as the business side . Hopefully also inspire some future craftsmen...

    Polishing the threads of small screws ! Now that & more the Swiss will need to see, listen n practise bcos they need to make not only for buyers but for watchmakers of the future to appreciate it even after many decades, that full detailing in manufacturing of a top quality watch is key to a higher horology level & standards..... Way to go for all that started it first 👍👍👍👍👍😉

    10 years ago I was the first time in Glashütte and it really has blown my mind. This year I visited it again an was even more impressed. Its incredible how this little town has developed since the reunification. I also visited many of the watch factorys. My favorites were Moritz Grossmann and the Museum. Since many years I really like the watches from that town, owned a Nomos, Mühle, and an A. Lange & Söhne pocket watch, wich I completely restored, but sadly it was stolen :-(. This year I made a new Case for a very beautiful Lange pocket watch movement and today I repaired a Lange pocket watch from the 20s. It was in a very bad condition an I had to make a new Barrel and a new Malteserstellung, but its a joy to work on this type of watches even when they are in such a sad condition. Keep going strong Glashütte! Greetings from the austrian Horologenland.

    I have often wondered how do watch makers keep their place clean. The process shown at 10:01 won't it create a very fine metallic dust? what happens to all the substance which comes out of grinding that metal against that machine. Or perhaps she is just polishing it. not shaping the metal.

    • @WATCHESTVcom
      @WATCHESTVcom  6 років тому

      There are various techniques, such as pressure difference that help or kind of static stands, but this remain an issue regardless, these are not white rooms like in the computer industry and glad it's not!

    Mr. M.A.D., have you ever seen these watchmakers drop a small part like a 1mm screw? I wonder if they have a procedure for hunting for a dropped watch part on the floor. Although they are skilled professionals, dropping tiny parts must happen! Do they excitedly say, *HEY, Do not walk here, I must find my screw!*
