Kent Nishimura is able to play the drums along with the bass, the base and the solo... everything very smooth, magical! he reinvented the way of playing with a weird tuning of the strings of his instrument that makes it possible to get a sound that looks like a fairy tale ... totally surreal!
the human brain is basically a "sequential processor" - even when we're multi-tasking, our focus is inherently singular - but this dude possesses the ability to focus on a song's bass channel, the melody chain, and the chorus/support channel; I can imagine that he's "singing", or listening, to the song in his mind as he's playing, but to translate that to playing without thinking about it takes YEARS of experience (and I've got shoes older than this guy)! I'd like to say that he's just uber-experienced at playing the guitar, but he's basically reading the music for each channel AT THE SAME TIME (listen how he plays the "grace notes" in between all the other music channels.... IN PERFECT RHYTHM - hell, Kent is providing the beat of the freakin' drum). Kent, what planet are you from, and can I go there???!!!!
Michael McDonald is one of the cleverest and most prolific songwriters to ever have happened in pop music - period. Once again, Kent Nishimura captured all of the nuances and intricacies of this song with astounding accuracy. Kudos to you Kent - keep 'em coming, we need these fleeting moments of happiness!
