Y'all are the modern day Skipper and Gilligan of the RV repair business!!
I sure do look forward to your videos and enjoy watching them.
LOL....Thanks for that.
Hmm, I wonder how Cameron likes being compared to that goofball, Gillian?
@@TheMinnow101 I wonder how you feel about being compared to a Karen.
@@TheMinnow101 I don't if he has seen that comment or if he knows who the Skipper and Gilligan are.
“The cardinal sin of RV repair: don’t touch something you ain’t working on.”
Lesson learned. 😝
You got it, great.
Great job you guys! Thanks for showing me how to do this - I will need to replace mine soon too.
Have fun and be safe.
As I always say, it’s a great day when you learn something new! Thanks you two and the tipster with this new install idea
I am always learning.
What a task when the slide is out. You Two did great as usual!
It did add some fun to the job.
Glad to hear that you found pinning the awning out useful. I have only done it on a manual awning and did not think about doing it an electric awning. Definetly having the slide room on the door side would make it more difficult. Without a slideroom on the door side or with the slideroom in you would have been able to work out the tube in at a lower height, but as you say, you really don't want to touch anything that you are not working on. Great job as always!
Thanks buddy.
Thank you!
You are welcome.
Great job. A lot easier than the other way for sure. Thanks Don
Yes it is.
You two just have too much fun!
If you can't have fun while working, then why bother?
Great job!
Thanks!
Try strapping arms only open like 1 foot that way you can work from the roof it's always worked great for me with removing and putting on new(roof guy pulling new and ladder guy feeding) and then roof guy comes down and both slide the bottom in and putting it back together motor end first then add spring torsion if needed and frees up one guy for extra hands if needed. We did it this way to get rid of some of the leverage issues and also its alot safer not being on ladders as much. Basically what u did but with it way closer to coach because sometimes the slide roof is there for extra work bench basically
There are many ways to do this.
@@hillbillyrv very true I can't work overhead so I always find ways around it
@@brentsharp8234 We all find what works best for us.
I always cut the center of the wrap, way easier. I also am always on my own so awnings are always a pain.
Center of the wrap?
I've got 2 used motors for those 9100, I've never had to get a new one, didn't know they cost that much. I'll hang on to them just in case.
Nice work.
Good idea.
That’s the way they replaced the fabric on my manual Carefree of Colorado awning but it had the old style arms. The roller was lower to the ground. But with the electric awnings and the different brackets it’s not as easy and with the slide out out it makes it a lot more difficult.
Yes
Nice job guys I did my dometic 8500 that way
Easy peasey.
Great video guys! You made it look so easy! What size rivets are needed to replace the ones drilled out holding the motor into the roller tube?
3/16 inch
Howdy guys, great job, you now have a new subscriber to your channel. I have replaced my awning fabric on my fifth wheel RV and I done it alone. Mine is 12 feet wide so it wasn't all that difficult once I figured out how I was going to do it. After watching your video I see a better way of dealing with the arms using the rachet straps. My awning is real high so I'll be needing longer straps, I really do thank you for sharing the video because I'm about to replace my awning fabric again. The one I replaced lasted me only six years. It started coming apart at the seams and that was it, no saving it. so here I go again... By the way, how did you pin the tension spring??
With a long skinny cotter pin. Some people use an ice pick. If you order the fabric from Lippert it might come with a pin.
Also, I fold one arm in, zip tie it closed, and put masking tape on the sharp edges so I don’t have to fight the arms. I’ll also send you a picture of the rope and pulley I use to feed the the new fabric in since I do most of them by myself.
ok
@pennie m Totally
I noticed this camper had the 1 big propane tank. I need to hook mine up like that. How do you hook it up like that because I have the 2 30lb. Tanks. I would appreciate it you could help this hillbilly out with this issue. Thanks guys, ya'll made the awning swap look too easy. Great job.
The company you rent the tank from will hook it up, or they do around here.
@@hillbillyrv ok thanks. I'll check with them.
I am about to change the fabric on a Dometic 9100 electric awning on a 2014 Forest River Microlite. I like the way you did this fabric changeout. I have a question about pinning the spring on the spring end of the tube. I tried to lineup the holes to push in the pin. Should the pin go through to the other side? My ice pick only goes in a short way, but not through the tube. If my pin does not hold the spring and it discharges, how many turns do I need to reset the spring? What direction do I need to rotate the spring? I really like your videos. Thanks
Way better to pin it. Yes the pin should go all the way through. You just need to find something that is small enough to go in the hole.
I have a question. Why don't power RV awnings have a power switch on the outside. I have a fifth wheel in a seasonal campground with a metal gazebo outside so I don't use my power awning much. But every once in a while I do put it out just to test it. The problem I have is I can't see it working from inside the camper and I have to open my door just to see if it all the way out. I would probably use it more often if I had a switch or remote outside. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem or is it just me. Thank you for the video.
If there was a switch outside anybody could open or close your awning. Probably not a good idea.
But yet another job well done guys.
I do have a question on the tube portion not sure why ya have to take the motor end cap off to slide the fabric in?? Is the cut out in the cap not big enough to slide the fabric through??
Only 1 slot in a Dometic, you might could do it your way on a Lippert.
Just out of curiosity, what do you like to use to pin the torsion spring?
I use the long thin cotter pin that comes with the fabrics, sometimes. Some people use an ice pick.
Little piece of tape will keep that guide on the end.
Never thought of that.
If the awning does not roll up square, the motor arm does not pull up far enough, how do you adjust so it is square? Thanks.
Replace the fabric with a new one.
@@hillbillyrv Thanks for the reply. I plan to replace the fabric this spring, following your method in this video. Love your videos. Keep up the great work.
@@larryrudolf667 Cool. Be sure to watch some of my newer awning fabric videos. We found a much easier way of doing it.
Awesome video. Your audio was very clear. Is it the mic on your camera or do you have something closer to yourselves to make it sound so clear? I replaced my awning a couple days ago (non motorized) in cold weather which didnt seem to help. I did however manage to replace it by myself and without disassembly or unwinding and removing the springs. If you get time, check it out and let me know any suggestions you might have to make it even easier as this was my first awning replacement.
I have several awning videos. Check those out also. I started using a different technic on the newest videos.
Awesome. I sure will
Send me your email and I’ll send you a picture of a thing I made for my Werner folding extension ladder. It helps a lot. As well.
It's in the description of the videos.
