    The scene with Bret and Parker fixing the ship was better than the one they left in. It gave Brett a bit more personality and showed the tension between the engineers and Ripley.

    Veronica Cartwright's naturalistic acting made her character's fear so believable. The character of Lambert is the surrogate for the audience (as has been described many times). Yes, there are so many great performances in this film, but VC's is right up there at the top. Heck, just the audio (which Ripley hears over the Nostromo's intercom) of her off-screen death scene -- her panic hyperventilations and final scream -- is nightmare fuel.

      @Deuterium2H, Yes Veronica C. did an excellent job in her role as “Lambert.”
      I found out awhile back that Veronica C. was actually in the classic Alfred Hitchcock movie “The Birds.” I think she was probably around 9 or 10 years old when she was in this film, but then I’m not exactly sure.

      Her reaction upon finally seeing the full-grown alien was fantastic. We as the audience knew what it looked like, but that was her first encounter with it. I mean...what do you do when something like that has you cornered?! And then her screams...nightmare fuel.

    ALL The Scenes from 10:45 onwards I'd say were needed in the Film. Especially if the Airlock Scene were completed as it explains why Parker goes from Tough Guy (Before he sees it alone in it's entirety) - to Scared out of his wits guy - and back to tough guy trying to save Lambert

    • @Defender78
      @Defender78 5 місяців тому +5

      I agree, 9153, these scenes bring the plot to life even more than they already are. The "crew discussing options" scene, 10:50 is great, it's all one take, no cuts or anything.
      But one question always sticks with me: How did Dallas and Lambert carry the unconscious and 75+lbs-of-suit-and-gear Kane back to the Nostromo, and in the deleted scenes for Aliens, Newt's parents go the same alien ship and the father gets a facehugger... how the H does Newt's mom by herself carry the dad back to the rover? An injured person, who can walk with assistance, but a out-cold person?? um plot hole??!

    The only Scene that seemed the MOST Relevant to the film was the Cocooned Dallas scene. They way he pleaded with Ripley to kill him off because of his ungodly pain was So chilling, so unsettling, so gut churning, and so Terrifying it felt like the only one that would’ve fit the most.

Unfortunately, the remaining "crew" members have already passed away: RIP John Hurt (Jan 25, 2017), RIP Harry Dean Stanton (Sep 15, 2017), RIP Ian Holm (Jun 19, 2020) and RIP Yaphet Kotto (Mar 15, 2021). 😔

    The scene of Kane prepping and then being lowered into hole (with Dallas and Lambert) was probably deleted because it makes the space jockey look less large and doesn’t match with earlier shot when Ridley used children to first encounter the space jockey (thereby making the pilot and the entire set interior look much larger).

    @5:38 I wish he would’ve added a little bit of that. When you see Dallas and Lambert it makes it scarier imho. I also liked Ben Burtt’s Alien S.O.S. / warning signal audio better than what was used in the Director’s cut that was scarier also. I think it was a deleted scene on the laser disc.

    • @CrashHeadroom
      @CrashHeadroom 8 місяців тому +2

      Bet it's the same SOS signal that got put in the old 4 disc dvd boxset, it sounds completely different to every version they've used since which sucks, because yeah it sounded WAY scarier and almost like the being saying it was heaving its chest in a strained pant. The Bret coccoon scene was also scarier on the original DVD deleted scenes, with ripley's voice being WAY MORE panic stricken...... I'm pretty sure Ridley Scott made the Director's Cut against his will which he why he used the shitter version of each scene, OR like i maintain he's lost his edge and really doesn't give 2 f***s anymore, hence why he can't even properly decide what Roy is saying in Blade Runner....is it father or f***er now ridley? I give up keeping track >_

    EHHEM! The rest of that last scene, was never filmed.... however, there is a remnant of it still left in the movie believe it or not. Ever wonder why Ripley suddenly gets a nose bleed when comfronting ash? It makes NO SENSE in the retail movie because the scene that preceded it again was never filmed. Parker contacts lambert and Ripley, telling them its cornered by an airlock, stareing at a red flashing light. ripley would then have come on the opposite side, with the 2 of them silently communicating with each other, while the xenomorph stares at the spinner..... then ripley would hit the airlock button trying to seal it in, failed, causing the alien to get hurt would would then have caused a decompression event, giving ripley her nosebleed!
    ALIEN Isolation paid hommage to this unfilmed scene, by giving the xenomorph a chance to stare at the same time of red spinner light above airlocks ^^.

    That scene Ripley promises to Lambert she will see to it they will get out alive is very sad, as lambert wanted so badly not to die, but horrifically she does… and she being asked if she slept with Ash, was extremely personal and stark, as the what is said during long periods of space travel and confined inside a ship, the Men and women, whatever they’re single or married, have intimacy with each other to fill the void and pass the time away… it was debated that Ripley herself had intimacy with Dallas as well… but in the end, Lambert’s death as well the others were all dismal and sad.

      It shows that these people are your average working joes and that being in space is just considered a mondain job.
      You can't judge the past by modern day standards.
      The scene in Ghostbusters showing Ray's reaction to encountering Slimer for the first time wouldn't of been as funny without the cigarette dangling out of his mouth and some of the beautiful cinematography in Balde Runner wouldn't of existed if characters had all been non smokers.

    These scenes are painful - they mostly look like rehearsal. One of the two things Ridley Scott is good at, is pacing and cutting out leaden action.

    Recently i watched some video on the background of he making of Alien 3. no Wonder this Movie is crap. To be fair, there are a few things that feel Like Alien and fit in the Universe. But come on, by deliberatly destroying everything Part 2 has created just to be even more sinister and nihilistic than Alien 1 doesn‘t work. For real fans, the Saga ends here, allowing us to have some hope for the protagonists. Thats why alien worked in the First place, because ist about hope, strenght and surviving

    So let me get this straight, the plan was to freeze the guy with the Alien still inside of him? Well that plan totally f$&ked up if that’s the case!

      @@redpillnibbler4423 The corporation knew a lot about the Alien before the movie even started. Why do you think they asked a freighter carrying rocks, comprised of silicon? and BTW the Alien species has an Exoskeleton comprised of silicon too, so basically the freight in the cargo compartment was Alien Food. They were preparing for hibernation with a last meal when the Alien popped out of him. Easily the problem with the plan was that they didn’t expect the Alien to pop out of Kane as soon as it did, and likely planned that the hibernation would also freeze the Alien inside of him. It would appear the Alien prequels may have been a backstory on how data and research was done on the Aliens before the first film, but now I’m not exactly sure.

    The implied sexual overtones of Ripley’s and Lambert’s conversation and body language are odd.
    _”Have you ever slept with Ash?”_
    The only thing I can think of that is relevant to that question is that Ripley suspects Ash an android, and the ability to have intercourse is a way to determine one’s humanity. There’s a scene in Prometheus that also alludes to this point, where the captain is questioning whether the lady commander is an android, who then offers him a sexual encounter seemingly as a way to prove she isn’t _(“My room….ten minutes”)._ But then Ripley touches Lambert affectionately which almost comes off as a pass, and Lambert’s response in her body language appears to rebuke this advance, so I can’t tell if that’s the reasoning for such an inquiry.
    A strange scene, and I can’t say it wasn’t a wise cut. I’m a bit baffled at what it’s trying to communicate, and I think it would have left the audience bewildered.

      It’s odd Ripley would ask Lambert if she slept with him,considering Ash was a last minute replacement.

      I always viewed the question as just a way to break the tension of the situation, give Lambert a laugh to help her calm down.
      As for her caressing her face and such, that again just came off as an attempt to comfort Lambert. It also reflects that maternal instinct since we would later find out Ripley had a daughter.
      We also got to remember that Ripley was intended to be a male character, too. The scene could have had the same meaning even then or just come off as playfully flirty.

      In the Alien Director’s Cut DVD, it’s explicitly stated in its description that the scene was intended to be viewed as romantic/sexually charged
