- Rick Stevens sings with Tower of Power second day in a row at the San Mateo Fair. Well worth the price of admission!!! Sorry Rick is so BRIGHT... The spotlight was on him, Maybe it's his SOUL Shining...
Soon after his incarceration, I met Mr Stevens in the CMF Vacaville prison gymnasium. He was very kind but he said he wouldn’t sing Your Still A Young Man, again. The gym had great acoustics. I remember Blacks, Whites and Hispanic inmates truly respected this singer. As the Gym officer, I gave Rick his space and let him be. So glad Rick changed his mind. Praise God for transformation through the True “Power of God”. Rick was a wonderful example of what God can and will do if YOU just go “down on your knees” and repent. What a song! What a testimony!
@ Donald Fortin/AMEN 🙏🏿😔
God bless you/ Thanks so much for sharing...
Such a God- gifted vocalist....
May he ,Rest In Glory🕊️🕊️
@@lindalyte7307 Truly, many inmates I met were damaged souls, yes; but each had a soul like the inmate thief on the cross who spoke out for Christ in his dying moments. What did Jesus say to that dying person?
“Today, you will be with ME in Paradise.” Of the thousands I met in prison over 33 years, many gave their hearts to God. So often these men appeared as the Prodigal Son did in Jesus’ beautiful story. Once they repented, a new change happened in their heart. And the results manifested the salvation only Our Lord provides.
i always wondered how he was treated by fellow inmates
Love how he looks at his band mates in appreciation when first gets on the stage. RIP blessed brother 🌼⚘🌼

Nice that he was able to get out and perform this song!! for so many years nobody had ever heard of him his voice held up after all those years.
To overcome what he did, and still get down like this is unbelievable! I’m so glad TOP welcomed him back so we could all enjoy this moment!❤❤❤

This is the BEST rendition of You're Still a Young Man that I have seen on UA-cam!!!! So impassioned and soulful it sends chills up and down my spine.

@@ralphc.7436 I was so blessed to see him a few times in Willimantic Connecticut at the shaboo
The masculinity and the pain in that voice just leapt off the vynal like no other.
@Billy Box , "Maybe it's his SOUL shining" LOVE that comment sir! I think you are right. Everyone makes mistakes and Rick was no exception. But he found redemption and forgiveness. If God can forgive him. so should we all, especially if forgiveness makes one shine like that!
Thank you for the memories and unforgettable music............ RIP.

I WAS a young man, the first time I heard this - in junior high? - and it's amazing to hear this faultless rendition so many years later!

Greatest show ever
@JC yes, it is, but he paid for his mistakes to man and now that he has passed...all has been forgiven. This is so heartwarming to see them playing and singing this Iconic song..Forever “You’re Still A Young Man” all time favorite.
Good Lord! Awesome!
As 'Mimi' stated on the intro, "One Of The Greatest Soul Singers Of Our Time,...", and that he is. That amazing voice of his is very much still present.
Tower of Power has been extremely blessed (especially in the late 60's, 1970's) to have had some most incredible vocal talent cutting loose from behind the microphone (the great Lenny Williams being another).
Rick Stevens (via Bump City) has to be considered one of the very best vocalist that 'Tower' has ever brought out front to the stage.
my top song ever love you Jerdine m
From the album "Bump City " 1972 their best-selling album was their self titled album "Tower Of Power "
I have loved this song for years and never knew he as in prison for 32 years for murder.
the song takes a little effort it is a very good job at 72 to sing like he sang it in 72
I wonder how long ago this was? GREATJOB!!!!
God is good
I was in the house that night!!!
The date on this is a year off. I believe this performance was on 6-13-12 (and not 6-12-13) because it happened on the same night that Giants' Matt Cain pitched his perfect game against the Astros.
❤
"San Mateo,How ya Doin Tonite?" Mimi
How come Lenny Williams is never mentionned ? Did they have a feud ?
Love this rendition but have a hard time forgetting he murdered someone.
He killed some very bad people in a drug deal gone wrong. I'm not excusing his actions, but he was probably afraid that it was him or them. I think 36 years behind prison and his conversion to the Lord may get him to heaven. Let God be his judge; not you.
J C I hope God doesn't have a hard time forgiving you sins and transgressions.
