Making Custom Chrome Door Knobs - BMW 323 I E30
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 жов 2021
- In this video I'm going to make four custom door knobs for my friends BMW 323 I E30 from 1985. The 36 years old original ones made from plastic became very brittle and fragile over the years and they break quite often. So I was asked to make some new ones out of stainless steel. We've decided to make the same design like the original ones, just have them polished instead of black. I also need to make four new rings. They had such clip things originally. As this technique does not work with metal rings, I've decided to use C-clips instead to secure them in place which worked perfectly.
I hope you like my work and the video.

My mind is so dirty i read that wrong 😩
@@kikiy245 that's because it was likely meant for you to read it wrong! LOL
Sad/broken world we live in.
Oh man, great find haha
I'm out of the dirty mind game that I completely read it as is before realizing what it was supposed to mean haha
I'm guessing you added about 40 horsepower to the vehicle. Well done!
That was a good one!!! I'm still laughing while writing this! :-)
In the engine or on the weels?
@@sergioguerra1246 likely the feel in the seat 🤣
The 300 meme.
@@tvguy12346 Perfect!😀
Our daughter asked “how long do you think it would take ‘the fixer man’ to restore an entire car!?!”
She loves watching your videos :)
it depends of......how bad the situation is.......when its bad.......so yeah he make a new one!!!!
Well if it's an original mini that you're adding 4 wheel drive and a turbo to, at least 9 years 😉
@@kyleeverly9243 lol. I'm waiting for the continuation as well 🤣
…. Tell your daughter she planted a seed ;)
That’s funny since he’s now restoring an entire car 😊
I'm sure this just increased the value of that car! Beautiful work, as always. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I must confess, that I've been watching many other restoration channels of late while eagerly waiting for your updates, and I am still floored, absolutely impressed, with how meticulous you are, and how much attention to detail you have, which, while may not be a standard practice, or necessary, but only because it makes the project more aesthetically pleasing, or even safer for the user, is just so very satisfying. Thank you for sharing your work with us. Might I mention, that same ethic is also applied to your video taking, editing and posting! You're a whiz not only at the toolbench, but also before the computer!
I too have been waiting for a new video, but a channel that lets me get my machining fix is Cutting Edge Engineering down in Oz.
@@Renville80 Oh my, if their quality of work is anything like my mechanics, I'd gladly give them a look. Thank you for the suggestion!
This guy is the best, for sure.
@@Renville80 a bit different to the tone of this channel, but I've been watching Curtis at CEE for a while and he's a true professional
I agree I’ve tried to watch other channels and it’s just not the same for me . I only started watching these types of videos a month ago
"the engine is not working properly... i make a new one"😅
Doors fell off... I make new ones
The joke didn't work. I make new one.
Thems definitely gonna be the nicest door locker knobs in the apocalypse
Your friend has excellent taste in cars. He now has the one BMW with the most famous door lock thingies.
she* ;-)
@@mymechanicsinsights oh well, that's what she gets for not driving a girly car like a Fiat 500 or a Porsche Cayenne. 😉
Spectacular custom chrome Door Knobs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know nothing about milling steel etc. I enjoy this man's work but especially his methodical ways and his freakishly neat work spaces!!!! 😀
Nice as long as the pull knob doesn't make noise when it contacts the metal ring over bumps in the road etc.
yeah I was worried too, but works fine
I cut the front end of a 3er off with a chisel for a friend. The welder/painter guy was amazing.
Having my mechanics as a friend, you can rest assured no project is impossible and you can dream big ❤️
Car communities all over the world would give you so much money if this is what you did for any random car.
Subtle improvement over the black plastic. Very nice
This makes me miss my 1986 318i so much...
great car
@@mymechanicsinsights showed a photo of it to my wife and she told me it looked like a mafia car because how big the 'windows' were. Still kick myself for selling....
That looks so classy, on a beautiful car. It really does. Here in Australia during summer, you would have to use a cloth to grab hold of a metal nib. Internal car temperatures can get up to 80℃, leaving a nasty burn, touching anything metal.
А в у нас в России зимой может замёрзнуть и тогда машину не открыть😁
80°C?????? my water heating system goes to 75°C at max, the seats and dashboard would literally be melting in there
@@adelalsaffar7762 INTERNAL temperatures IN the car, smartass
Well, I suppose in Switzerland, where this car is driving around, this won't be a problem, but I still think it was not good to make them out of metal, because given the thermal conductivity, in alpine winters, when temperatures drop well below freezing… He should have replaced it with other plastic parts or anything else nonmetallic.
At our mile high altitude in Colorado, water boils at 91C or 196F. 80C is 176F.. that’s very 🥵
No more plastic breaking... But now you have to worry about fingerprints 😋 Well done!
Now.... it's ready For Autobahn 🚗
let's go!
Man being a machinist with a lathe and the know-how is an incredible skill to have. You can practically make anything 💪
Man, where can I find a friend like you??? That was beautiful... 😍😍😍
It’s tiny little things like this that really make a vehicle pop.
Those are sweet. Using the circlip was a genius move
Yeah thought about it for very long time how to secure it
¡¡ Wow!! four luxury details that raise the quality of the car. Cool
Superb workmanship ..please make more videos…
They're gonna get hot in the sun!
It must be cool to have a friend like you.
This project will open the door to many possibilities 😀
80’s cars have very few redeeming features (Golf gti cabriolet aside). You’ve done that boxy vehicle a huge favour!
Thanks, I'm glad you like it :-)
Nice! The metal "grommet" looks great and ads the layer of detail we've come to expect from you - but if the car has a vibration, the metal to metal noise may be bothersome.
Version two can have a recess cut into the inside of the grommet for an o-ring to dampen any rattling noises that could happen. :)
E30 are still the nicest models
That's how BMW should have made it. A car that would last a lifetime.
OK, now all I’m thinking about is a collab with « M539 restoration » !
I have always hoped that a friend who can make something you need is a good kind of friend. That's the kind of friend I have tried to be. This guy takes it to a new level 🙂
this is lucky man to be friend of the great my mechanics ❤️
If manufacturers made stuff to begin with, the way you make items; likely there would be CONSIDERABLY less need for any replacements as the entire product would last so much longer!!! Like they used to make things! Nice touch to a cool older car!
Well said!
Wow! So precise and neat!
Your friend has good taste in cars
I love the sound it makes when the lathe jaws release.
Impressive!!! Your attention to detail is unrivaled.,..great work!!!!
I think now your friend should buy a new car for this beautiful door knobs :-)
Please restore old models of cars 🚗 btw good videos stay blessed
You should restore a complete old car once! Make a series out of it. That i’d love to see!
I enjoy watching all your restoration projects and your perfectionism. Keep it up. Cheers!
I had to share this car with my husband. He loves himself some Beamers. 🙂
I need a friend like you in my life... 😍😍😍
Your friend has great taste
I honestly expected to see the entire vehicle in pieces 😎
It was a very nice car, but with those knobs it turned into a fantastic and beautiful car
It's the little details like this that let you know when a car is truly loved.
Before watching, I was expecting you will made gearbox lever haha, nice job !
Ooh, I wish that I could do what you do. I'd like to make the things around me higher quality, too. Thanks for posting!
simple way is to not settle for crap. So if you cant make it, dont buy crap, have fewer things to begin with and slowly we get back to having quality over quantity in life :).
thats exactly my dream lmao, own a machine shop and make everything i own unique and fancy
Wife is broken, I make a new one
Teacher as we say for Uruguay in Spanish. Best regards and admiration for your work. Ezequiel. 😎
This time they will nevee ever get destroyed. It looks awesome
Breakfast with my mechanics... can't think of anything better 😊
And now you're going to have hordes of retro-auto fanatics asking if you can make a set for them!
...And hordes of others blaming him for ruining the purity. At least this mod is fully reversible, should a future owner be amongst them.
If the car is in the sun on a hot day, those buttons will get super hot to touch.
Tell me that you are from switzerland without telling me you are from switzerland
So you have a badass car like this, and you decide to make a video about making a custom DOORKNOB
Love your vids man
I just saw the name Daniel Trejo on the Patreon list. I pictured the actor Danny Trejo watching intently, looking like he's going to destroy the whole world as usual but actually is loving the mirror finish. If he watches restorations, I guarantee his favorite parts are the precision details and mirror finishes. (Just heard "gotto get rid of those rough edges" in his voice in my head.) He'd probably also watch with his grandkids.
Шикарная машина, цвет вообще бомбезный!!!
В этом ролике все шикарно, подход, умения, реализация и результат)
@@MrMaianeZ Полностью согласен, это уже по умолчанию. Не зря ролики столько просмотров набирают.

My mechanics doing car things in a BMW? I'm in heaven
She also requested a new gear knob in the same style ;-)

They look much better then the plastic ones.
These will last forever👌👍
Beautiful work.
Looks good! No stone will be left unturned when it comes to your restoration. Your wide range of skills always impresses me!
I love how he covered the plate number with his sticker 😆
I like those small Swiss🇨🇭 licences plates 😆 in many other countries the stickers might be to small 😄
Your friend is very lucky person! Everything you make is so beautiful! Thank you for a great video as always.
Nothing like having door lock knobs that will last for 1,000 years. :-) (I drive an e30 myself, and wouldn't mind having some of these too.)
Thank you for the time you invested in editing this and all of your videos. Also, thank you for showing the layout for the project with the dimensions.
Without words, the most beautiful knob I've ever had the opportunity to see.
Beautiful. It must be great having a pal like you !!
The machining skills this man has is ungodly.
BMW E30 is such a mymechanics car...with a full engine rebuild, of course ["made a new one"].
Brilliant, you have now gained around 10,000 new BMW subscribers & made all of them jealous👏👏👏👏, 👍fab…..
I hope so ;-)
Christmas is right around the corner , im thinking you could make your friend some lug nuts to match those fancy new door lock knobs! LOL
@M539 Restorations collaboration must be next? Swiss machinist meets German BMW restorer? You both have a similar bar for quality!
Woooow! Now we are talkings about! Going to the next level!!
Worthy of the finest and most exclusive Rolls Royce, this BMW is now worth more than a Phantom!
I miss my e30!
Great job!
Half expecting, "This BMW is old. I make a new one!"
I am surprised that such a nice car would have cheap plastic crap for door locks. The stainless steel looks so much nicer!!!!
If I had your skills and tools I would have made the whole car and with the Knob.... Great job as always.... I make new one....
go for it ;-)
Behold, everyone! *He making a new one!*
@7:21 ... Audi Style "MyMechanics " Logo on 1985 Beemer, Dope!
I would totally watch a series of you just machining various replacement components for a car that you are restoring, but it would take way too much time and probably be ruinously expensive. Great work as always. I'm sure your friend appreciates never needing to worry about those door pulls ever again. A bit of a shame that they didn't want them black. It would have looked amazing heat blued.
Lovely ride and awesome knobs!!!❤👍
incredible as usual and filmography to boot.
You sure polished that knob well.
lmao haha
this is great. more car parts like this please
I believe you are very loved by your friends! That looks great!
Now I want these knobs for my car! Never mind that these knobs and trim rings are worth more than my entire car, or me not having the means to buy them, I still want these knobs and trim rings!
Oh those are sure to leave a mark after sitting in the sun for a while. They look awesome.
You show a new card each time, well done man
Thanks a lot for watching :-)
My only gripe about that style of door lock was that it poked into my fat under arm when I laid it across the window sill. Otherwise I had no complaints. Beautiful job, as always.
I always loved the look of the E30 and would loved to have owned an E30 Wagon.
Excellent work on the door locks - they look fantastic!
I guess you started making a good money with manufacturing of interior elements for old cars!
Best knobs I've seen in a long time.
Greetings from St. Petersburg!
Knobs - fire 👌! I think the new gear lever would be just as great, huh? ...... And that nice sound when a part falls into a cardboard box, ahhh!
Absolutely fantastic unbelievable skill and talent 👍👍👍👍
