Instant buy. If this becomes as polished as FoG Empires (a great game per this niche of games, imho)...it will become another must have. With many challenging & fun hours in multiplayer with FoGE, hoping & expecting this version will offer the same.
I was a bit skeptical when I heard that it was more boardgame than something like a PDX GS game, but I picked up Empires to try out as it's on sale and holy crap this has become one of my most look forward too games this year. I enjoy Empires but Kingdoms is more my preferred time period! EDIT: While I get people not being the most fond of the turn based battles being "locked" behind another game, I don't mind it that much. In Empires I think the only battles I would want to fight personally are the really big battles that are very evenly matched. Which... at least in my experience hasn't been often.
Thats true, while its fun to export a game in FOG:E to play in FOGII, I find that I would prefer to admit defeat due to my mistakes and continue to the next turn, than spend 30 minutes in FOGII to fix my mistakes! But it would be nice to have MP support with the PBEM servers for that function. When I got FOG:E, i also got FOGII that was on sale, so for comparison with other PDX and similar World Conquest games, the price is very comparable (and the game actually works). Cant say that with other big releases...
Yes, fairly quickly, I started to appreciate the quick battles as shown here. They are enough to give you an idea of your forces & enemies strengths and weaknesses. And so quick to resolve, much better than the equivalents in other strategy games such as Civilization and the Paradox games. I wish EU would implement a battle system like the quicker one Empires & Medieval use.
I'm very interested... I do tend to like what Slytherine puts out, but I've never really heard of this series. I'm a bit worried by the "it's a boardgame" comments and the reviews for other games being pretty... mixed from what I saw? I do enjoy stuff like Crusader Kings or EU4, and the Knights of Sovergin 2. But I specifically like playing through a sandbox styled campaign... is this the right series for me?
FOG:Empires might still be on sale? From what I can tell you (also coming from EU4 about 4 years ago when I jumped on FOG:E) I was rather surprised. You can shape the game to where you want to go and tick things over time. Not sure how you can sandbox your way on the higher difficulty levels, there are some scripted events that do steer the game one side or the other. It could have a direct impact depending on which nation or area of the map you find yourself into. Some have tried a run with Boi in Northern Italy in FOG:E and well, it didnt end well. Or I tried many times with Bactria (with the Persia DLC for FOG:E) and it was... very tough at experienced AI lvl. I wouldn't say its a boardgame at all, board games are not really WEGOs and movement ticks would be very hard to implement in a boardgame and very confusing. The WEGO really sets it appart, and present itself as another learning curve that I still struggle to this day. Oh, and the trade system... did we talked enough about a real trade system? Its polished a lot in FOG:K, only thing I can say atm.
what ever happened to your "temple of flame" series? i was looking forward to watching it when i had the time, that being right now, only to find it's all unlisted
LIke in FOG E, this game looks great...except terrible colours on the map. What is sense of designing those beautiful, period-era art UI, if it lays on plain, pinky-yellow-purple map? Brownish or pergaminium-like map with cloured borders for provinces would be much better.
I really wish they didn't force you to buy another game to experience the full battle system. They should just include a tailored version of it in this as one game. It's one of the biggest gripes I had with FoG Empires.
I understand your position. But both are fully fledged individual games. I would rather have this option, than no option at all. This makes it use the hours developed in FOG:Medieval available for FOG:K. When you think about it, they frequently come on sale, and are both games you can enjoy individually or together. The only issue i have at the moment is the compatibility of FOG:Kingdom MP PBEM games using FOG:Medieval. Its just not possible at the moment to export a battle for an MP game. I hope they find a solution for this.
Not much of a burden given you only need to buy FOG2:M itself and get all the DLCs included when using it to export to play a battle. I picked up FOG2:M last steam sale for something like 60 or 70% off. And even right now you can easily find it sold 3rd party for like 12 bucks.
The full battle system adds little, if nothing to the game. When playing as single player, anyway. With Ancients, the novelty soon wore off and the strategy layer is so excellent, I preferred the quick in-game system.
i thought Empires was a little simple and too easy. Mostly just click to build buildings and recruit army. I played standard difficulty maybe ill try it again harder
Who did you play? Also yore basically just describing the game loop. You build building, manage pops, recruit units, move and fight with your armies and then you proceed to the next turn. Sometimes these decisions are easy and quick Sometimes they are really difficult and intense and intriguing. That's just the game loop. All games have game loops.
I played Maryam Empire and more than a few turns. I had easily run through all of Persia before I quit. Maurya may be a little overpowered but still the gameplay loop did feel a little shallow compared to some other 4x and grand strategy games. I want an ancient world game that is at least as complex as eu4. Might try impiritor Rome again too. I’m looking for more realism, complexity and challenge from these games. I can play risk on my phone I don’t want it for pc
@@djjayfortierdjjayfortier9999 If you'd just started with the snarky risk on my phone comment you could have saved everyone some trouble as they'd have known from the jump to ignore you.
@@djjayfortierdjjayfortier9999 eu4 is made by a giant company and this is made a tiny one with a handful of ppl. What they have delivered to you is a relatively in depth game that plays great for a long time while also having a simple enough game loop that it can be used for all nations with the more interesting factions getting more love and feeling great to play. Playing a third tier nobody nation is not going to really grant you a great experience or give a full picture of what the game has to offer. I suggest playing Syracuse if you want a compelling challenge but don't want to play a major power.

I really appreciate you making this video. I’ve just bought the game and haven’t a clue what to do. This is super helpful. ❤

I've been waiting for this game since it was announced.
Nice demonstration, appreciate it! I think this is my kind of game and going to see if it might be on sale and I'll buy it!
Can’t wait for this! So excited! Ty Das!
This looks great! Looking forward to it!
Waiting for it too!
Most anticipated game of the year!
Rather hyped for this one since FOG: empires was pretty good.
Nice. Can't wait.
Great snapshot Das! Dont be afraid to hop on Experienced AI !
Great game, waiting for this to come out.
Good video. Thanks!
Basicaly this is FOG: EMPIRES but in the medievals setting with some improvements. Must buy if i see a cheap steamkey.
great review
Man I thought Ageod was DEAD...so happy they're still making games.
Nice
Want to see a whole series
Ohhh im fkin excited.

Is it a good sign when your son is named Malaise? 😀
Those guys in the title screen have seen some things.

Did you just play 50 turns, or played a 250 turn campaign? There are many things that can catch up with you over time.
