I would like to thank you for the 1x1 videos it sparked my interest in carving again dusted off the knives and got started the 1x1 are simple and fun thank you once again
I'm not sure how you ended up in a suggested video out of the blue, but I sure am glad. I have watched so many of your videos now. Ordered a knife and started this journey. I have now watched several different channels, but none are as easy to follow or as entertaining. Thanks for the inspiration
Your fairy door video showed up in my recommended list back in March. I dusted off my dad's old carving tools and decided to try a door. I've been watching and carving ever since. Our fireplace mantel holds each little gnome, leprechaun, Easter bunny, and project as I complete it. With three kids, I often make three of any one project which really helps refine my carving. Thanks for igniting a new-found passion and a really relaxing hobby.
STOP with all the great projects 😂. My ‘to carve’ list is getting too long. Real talk now- I ‘m enjoying these little projects so much. In addition to them being lots of fun, they have encouraged me to up my honing game . My knives, especially the tips, have never been sharper. Thanks Doug! You keep us going!!
This video came as an unexpected surprise because as you mentioned, I am no longer getting notifications any more so I'll look into that right now; luckily, it did show up on my home page and that's how I found it. Anyway, yet another amusing little project - you're spoiling us! P.S., Aha - found it! Tell viewers that they have to select 'ALL' in the drop down 'SUBSCRIBED' thing on the right of the screen on your channel. For some reason, mine had been reset to 'PERSONALISED', probably due to a UA-cam update at some point because I've noticed that the same now also happens on several other channels that I have been subscribed to for a few years.
I retired not quite 6 years ago after 46 years as an ironworker. I then started a new hobby designing whirligigs and cutting them out on a scroll saw, among a few other scrolling projects. I have nothing to do during our long northern New York winters so I thought I would learn woodcarving. I want to become good enough so that some of my whirligig characters can be 3-D and no longer flat. Though some might still need to be. I have watched many of your back videos and gained a lot from them. I have also designed a few simple relief patterns to learn too carve also. I like that you talk us through your process and also bring up safety issues. I need to spend some time watching your style of painting. I didn't learn that style many decades ago as an art major. Your corn cobs are awesome!!! Take care!
Grumpy corn men, I love it, sooo cute!! I’ll have to carve 2 or 3 to go with the scarecrows I just finished. Looking forward to your upcoming painting video, you always have the best tips!! Also love your enthusiasm for carving especially small whimsical pieces!
Great carve. I really like how you did the faces on these guys. I would love to see more tutorials on expressions like these. Thanks for the great videos, I enjoy every one of them.
I love your UA-cam videos. Your carving instructions are so easy to follow. I just have to get out my carving knife, find a piece of wood. The "workshop" is full of nice cuts of wood. Escape somewhere quiet with my corgi and carve! You should use your technique and apply to carve corgis and other breeds of dogs. I, too, love to look through my Woodcarving Illustrated magazines. The subscription was a gift from my dad. It's still a gift subscription, but now my mom has taken it over!
Just carved your corn cob figure. I’m really new to carving and it turned out pretty good. I attended the Kawartha Woodcarving Show and someone wondered why it is that you have never attended any shows. You being a UA-cam celebrity and all. I’m sure that lots of folks would like to meet you. Me included. All of my works have been from your tutorials.
Thanks Doug, every video you make is my new favorite . You have created the best super cool fun project, this is my favorite , love it , love it, love it . Looking forward to the painting video. Blown away by the possibilities of the Indian corn for the holidays. Thanks again, you are the Man.
This was my favorite project so far. Made plenty of mistakes but it ended up coming out pretty decent. I've gotta do more. The painting seems daunting on this one but I'll see if you do a specific painting for this one as the color you use makes these guys stand out.
Stop it's catching my attention. Ì don't have time until this winter. Dough love all your work, and you're my favorite teacher What do you think about Drake knives?.Their handles look comfortable Thanks
Mi sono avvicinata all' intaglio del legno grazie hai tuoi video ti ringrazio per i tanti suggerimenti che dai spieghi molto bene però i miei lavori sono ancora un disastro Buona giornata un caro saluto dall Italia da Lucia
I just picked up wood carving as a new hobby. I bought a 3 knife set from beaver craft for like 45$. I don’t have a lot of money to spend on the hobby and I know everyone says it’s a cheap hobby all you need is a knife and piece of wood but obviously it’s better and easier if you have a few more things than that. The next things I want to get when I can afford them is a v-tool, a medium gouge, and then some kind of finishing oil or paste. I’m a girl with small hands and little fingers. Can anyone more experienced recommend a good v-tool. I can’t waste money buying the wrong items. Also I have seen Doug put oil on before painting and I’ve also seen him put oil or paste on after painting. What is the difference if you put it before or after? Or do you do both?
As someone with small hands, I love my 4-piece Flexcut scorp set ... it has three sizes of gouge and a v-tool, and fits a female hand nicely. I especially like the option to pull instead of push the blade.
I started whittling in the past couple weeks because of watching your videos as well as some other content creators on the platform. Enjoying it so far, one thing I'm noticing is that my whittlings seem to have more of a not-so-clean or smooth look on the smaller edges/cuts. Not sure if I need to finish with more cuts across the edges or if my knife isn't quite sharp enough for the little holes/crevices in my whittlings... Either way, I liked this corn cob man, I'll have to add it to my list of whittling ideas
Just finished carving and painting the corn man, so easy and fun! Could you please do a tutorial on the old fisherman you did a few yrs back? I like how you show where lines should go, I know there are other carvers that carve fishermen but they just jump in and it’s hard to follow or make sense of or give dimensions. I would really appreciate it if you could. Thanks!
I just made the little owl last week an just watched 3 of your videos, 1 on painting, owl and this one. Thank you for them! however, Have you ever made a female face. You may have one in your video history I will look. Would you give time to a newer video on a female face maybe a corn lady?? It's for a granddaughter.
Doug please be aware that there are someone that "replies" to the comments saying you won a prize and that you should be contacted on telegram. When I go to my comment on your video I don't see that reply but I received an email saying "you" replied

Is this a scam?
Nope
You know it's a good video when 1/13 people like, usually it's way less
You should sell these. They could become super collectible.

Does the link for the magazine subscription work globally?
