      Currently playing a Caliban with dumped Agility but w/Atlas systems and its fucking great. Caliban is a close quarters nightmare but anything outside range 3, you're kinda useless, but Atlas' Jager Kunst 1 and the Terashima Blade's wind stance + Cali's Pursue Prey puts you back in the game.

    Designed for honor duels, used for hunting kaiju, and imbued with the memories and spirit of martial arts masters. This license is made from anime tropes, and I love it.
    Has a lot of possible synergies with other 1/2 size chassis (Napoleon for resilience, Dusk Wing for movement shenanigans, and Caliban for ramming and grappling things bigger than you).
    The spirit of the Clans runs deep through this one. Put some points into Exemplar, Duelist, and Brawler for maximum bachal.

  • @reversedperspective2584

    Just a tip for anyone going into the Atlas put everything into agility during license upgrades and by the time your LL3 with the atlas you can get the FULL SUBJECTIVITY SYNC
    giving you a 19 on evasion. Doesn't stop you from popping like an egg in a microwave if something tech attacks you though. (Also slight long term plan, Brawler, Duelist, Nuclear Cavalier as talents really help each other,
    get people on the ground, Punch for 2d6 Kinetic, then +1d6 cause of the mechs normal skill to prone people, then +2 heat damage because this thing overheats easily from Nuclear Clavier then from the same skill at rank 2 toss in 1d6 energy damage so in the end that's about
    4d6 damage and 2 heat. The duelest is to protect and that nice, Ram or Grapple upon sword hits at rank 3
    Want to go further beyond? going into INFILTRATOR does some good stuff but I've ranted a bit to long about this
    Honestly my first mech ever.
    Side note, honestly been hyped for this one for a while because I honestly didn't know how Jager Kunst 2 fully worked, and your just in time before my session on Saturday where the first time I ever use this will be against a mech that I managed to hurt while out of my mech in a sword fight and dam you're fully right on going full anime because I didn't expect to beat a mech in a dice roll.
    Sorry for ranting so much but basically, you've done a wonderful job as always Dragon, and you've inspired me to do even dumber stuff now that I fully understand my mech. Keep up the amazing work.

    • @Helmic
      @Helmic 4 роки тому +13

      The risk with going all-in on Agility right away, of course, is Reliable weapons existing and your 2 (!!) repair points instead of the standard 4. You really need Hull to not get immediately stomped by anything that either doesn't target Evasion or that deals damage anyways, like assault rifles and grenades. Your E-Def is kind of a lost cause as it is, but between your HP and Heat Cap needs you have quite a bit of pressure to not go all-in on dodging everything, at least not immediately.

    • @divinkitty9452
      @divinkitty9452 4 роки тому +10

      Someone mentioned this in the Lancer Discord with Atlas: agility increasing is a trap. It's a lot better to go with Hull at the start to get better health and from there see how you play the mech. You can maybe survive the low heat cap through always focusing on hiding and breaking like of sight, but Engineering is always a nice stat to level for Atlas at least a little as it will boost that heat cap and give you more usage of systems. Lastly I usually try to get my Agility up to 4 for the nice boost to speed so that your speed matches the range of your Kraul Rifle. Anymore in Agility is honestly a waste given that most enemies will be attacking you with a -1d6 to hit due to you nearly always counting as being in soft cover.
      Talents are whatever you want tbh, everyone builds their mechs differently, but odds are you'll be focusing on melee so Duelist and Combined Arms are really nice.

    • @maxspecs
      @maxspecs 2 роки тому +4

      High agility is great until you realize the GM put a bunch of assault NPCs because they're the easiest and most common enemy mech, and each one has a reliable weapon that will chew through your HP even on a miss.
      That or hornets with seeker missiles to hit your lower edef.

    Atlas core power boosts voluntary movement by 1 space.
    *VOLUNTARY MOVEMENT* being the key phrase.
    That means this damn thing boosts movement from systems, Talents, and even f**king weapon effects like the fold knife teleport on crit and the wind stance terashima blade.
    Oh i get ya with a crit? Ok let me teleport 3 spaces away and then cartweel another 3 because of Lockbreaker from skirmisher rank 2.
    A good Atlas player is nigh untouchable, and then you can just add a flicker field projector to gain invisibility against attacks while your core power lets you hide without cover. With agility boosts, it can get so crazy that you'd have to allow your enemies to actually hit you.

    • @michaelcordero7061
      @michaelcordero7061 5 місяців тому

      This gets even more insane when you consider homebrew pilot talents like Blade Dancer, which is all about bullying enemies for trying to take reaction attacks against you and gaining free hits back and mobility for it.
      Blade Dancer rank 3 is called Dervish Cadence when you score a critical hit with a main or aux melee weapon, you may move 2 spaces in any direction while ignoring engagement and reactions. Combined with Lockbreaker and Fold knife crit teleport or Wind stance Terashima blade, you can move NINE SPACES FOR FREE WITHOUT TRIGGERING REACTIONS FOR 1 CRITICAL HIT.
      That's not even the main thing about Blade Dancer rank 3. Because you can choose to have Dervish Cadence not ignore reactions. If you do, you get to automatically swing a melee attack against anyone in reach if any reaction attack you trigger misses you, and then you get to move another 2 spaces when that resolves.
      Combine this with Skirmisher 3 and core power, and you get to yeet 3 spaces away on crit, let a reaction be triggered against you, automatically cause it to miss because of Weave, and then get a free attack and another 3 space movement, in addition to the movement granted from Lockbreaker and the Terashima wind stance effect, TWICE OVER because you essentially skirmished twice.
      With all that together. You get, 9 spaces from Dervish Cadence, Lockbreaker, and Wind stance Terashima blade, 6 of those spaces do not trigger reactions, then you trigger a reaction, cause it to auto miss, and then get to swing again for another 9 space movement.
      And you can do Dervish Cadence as many times as you want until you actually get hit or choose to end it. Meaning you can littlerally just yeet 9 spaces at a time for each counter attack after every missed reaction.
      Skirmisher 3 grants this a minimum of twice for free. I stand by what I say man, a beefed up Atlas player will littlerally have to allow themselves to be hit. Otherwise they are littlerally just gonna be flash stepping between enemies and sinking swords through cockpit.
      That's not even counting the sheer malevolence of combining Atlas with Infiltrator. May God help whoever you sneak up on.

    *Incoming Rant Time:*
    Man I want to like Atlas but it's really an uphill battle for this guy when you put him side-by-side with Blackbeard and Caliban.
    The BB comparison is really valuable because Atlas' tech stats and heat are basically identical to BB, right down to the Engineering difficulty. BB gets hyper-scary grappling tech and core power to augment that, in exchange for just raw HP chuft and a heavy mount so that even if it gets a bit heated it still can take a few punches to the face and probably do more damage to whatever's trying to hack it anyways.
    Atlas doesn't got that strong backing - its only high stats are its Evasion and Speed, so if it gets set on fire or hacked it actually is in serious trouble with its low HP. That also means it easily flakes if anything that uses grenades or reliable damage even thinks about looking at it, doesn't matter how much AGI you stack on top of that - gets even worse when considering that higher-tier NPCs begin stacking Accuracy and Attack Bonus. Speed meanwhile is a stat that gets less useful the more of it you have; there's several ways to leverage Boosts through systems and talents, but the more Speed you got, the less you need to perform the action. Then there's straight up talents like Ace or licenses like Sunzi I that just allow you to work entirely around the drawback of being Speed 2-3 with flying jets or boost pads.
    Then there's the traits: It's 1d6 striker trait is more difficult to set off than other Striker frames that have them such as Nelson or Mourning Cloak: you've got to hit a prone target. While this makes it fine if you're paired with teammates that can do that, it's not something Atlas does well by itself at all, because unlike Caliban who can just tackle anything that isn't a hypermassive Size 4 Monstrosity (while then also sailing across the map with their corpse and doing 1d6 bonus damage when slamming them into a wall anyways), Atlas' size bonus maxes out at 1, so it's only average at best without using SMN.
    Giantkiller and Jager Dodge both play off of its small size, and both are solid. Being able to move directly through enemies without stopping work well with the high speed, and the space-sharing is useful for avoiding ranged attacks I guess (yet you cannot use the cover you get from latching onto a mech to Hide - it gives you soft cover, but it's not an _area_ of soft cover). Jager Dodge is a powerful parry-styled reaction, but it's still a reaction regardless, which is kind of a problem if you're getting wailed on from multiple sides - it can be used to some degree to cancel out its weakness to explosions and reliable, but it's also eating into its reaction economy, which it could be using to Overwatch instead (also, again, something that BB can do even while using the game mechanic it's made to exploit!)
    The CP points to Atlas possibly wanting to be a stealth/Infiltrator frame, but this is the only part of the frame that nods to this possibility. The license itself doesn't use lots of invisibility like Swallowtail or Metalmark use, so it's reliant on cover if you're sticking purely to the frame's license if you don't want to touch CP. That's on top of the Hide Quick Action not producing any direct benefit compared to Grappling, Ramming, or Boosting - in addition to being situational on when you can use it, it doesn't affect enemies directly, provides temporary protection, and worst of all, can be entirely undone with one movement. Or one attack. This is why Swallowtail's a lot more organic with how it interacts with Hiding since it can still do a bunch of support action while removing itself from being a valid target. Even when leveraging CP and Infiltrator, Atlas has to pay a Quick Action Tax to get Hidden again.
    The actual parts of its license range from confusing at LL1 to outstanding at LL3 - a tripwire that can be just as big of a threat to your own team of larger guys and a CQB that isn't a CQB that both grants extra mobility (something Atlas already has a ton of) and a reaction (something Atlas needs to parry). But then you get up to LL3 and get basically the ultimate Main Melee for Duelist builds, and that's fantastic - Nelson and Mourning Cloak will love using this sweet sword, but that's just it, all the good parts of Atlas' license can just be used on a frame that has more stats than just Evasion and Speed!
    Anyways, if I were rebalancing this thing, I'd give it something to let it hide more easily specifically in conjunction with attacks, remove that engineering difficulty, and just maybe up its save target a bit? As-is, though, I'm pretty convinced it might be the weakest frame in the game at the moment, come at me.
