I’m a Blues fan big time but I really love the players they acknowledge each other for their time during footy. That what makes footy interesting, enemy in the field for 80 minutes but have a beer after and praise each other. Amazing 👍👍
As an avid sports fan, but a Victorian, it was incredible watching Andrew Johns play. He was awe inspiring as he was just so obviously so much better than everyone else. It really stuck out to someone who didn’t grow up watching rugby league. Just on another level. You appreciate it when you’re watching greatness.
I feel Joey respects these 2 more than he’s own Blues sometimes, his admiration for Thurston is so obvious, he would’ve loved to have played with Smithy and Thurston especially Billy Slater

Professional rugby league and rep footy has been played since 1908 in Australia. NSW had 1or2 imported players back then during their record. But Qld always had more imports, just as they still do today. Some modern QLD SOO sides have had over 8 imports in a single side. Even when they were successful. Past and current NSW sides never had anything like this. Trying to use imported players argument to invalidate past success of teams only delegitimizes modern records more.
As much as I love Locky and Cooper Cronk the thought of Johns being at halfback with Billy, JT and Smith in the spine sounds absolutely terrifying. Its clear these guys would have loved the chance to play together for the Kangaroos
Never forget for 40 minutes Australia fielded a spine of 1. Lockyer 6. Thurston 7. Johns 9. Buderus. In Johns’s last test match after Karmichael hunt got knocked into a heavy coke problem. I mean concussion. Some of the best spines we’ve actually had were 1. Lockyer 6. Johns 7. Langer 9. Hethrington And of course 1. Lockyer 6. Fittler 7. Langer 9. Johns. That’s just the 98/99 seasons.

In 1987 Alfie langer debuts, has a blinder and 10 seconds from full time Peter sterling redirects play down the blindside and the blues go in for a match winning try. Game 1 1998 Andrew johns and Allan langer square off for the 1st time as opposing halfbacks. Alfie scores a try lays on another 2 has 1 forced drop out and generally dominates johns, Fittler and Daley. Game 2 2005 Andrew johns comes back from injury. Savagely and ruthlessly destroys Lockyer, smith, Thurston. The fact is every great got smacked and every great learned that an origin is 80 minutes, not 79:58 and they all learned that getting on top is hard, staying there requires a ruthlessness that few have ever shown.

I can think of a couple of players, but most would never have been able to compete with the list above.
