Today is a HUGE win for osu!taiko, finally settling an issue lasting over three years! Hilariously, the footage at 1:31 is completely backward from stable, but I've already talked with the contributor who wrote the PR to fix it. There's lots of lazer conversation surrounding a lot of long-standing issues, and having some contributors, I'm excited to see what the future of lazer holds :D
I never understood trying to standardize two completely different modes (standard and mania) to make one more "accessible" to the other, but in the end HP drain is gone from mania 🙌
can someone explain to me why HP drain is so bad in osu mania? i didn't play it much but i couldn't imagine it any other way? isn't it good because you can't random key spam?
I think quite a sizeable amount of people checked out lazer because of hard linking songs from stable. _Thanks for finally bringing the feature to Linux as well!_
It's nice how you're very open about how the development is going! I don't play much osu nowadays but keeping in touch makes me want to pop in every now and then.
Not played osu! for years at this point as I stopped playing because my wrist hurt too much. I am tempted to go get my tablet and start playing again, with more moderation ofc.
Maybe you can add a short description in the title of each episode? Maybe like "Lazer updates 21.1.2023 - pp testing and more" or something like that I'm watching every one anyway but I think it will make the videos more accessible and maybe even recommend them to new people
one thing i'd really like is to use the Nightcore and Daycore mods as a rate change mod with pitch (since in lazer custom rates are a thing) rather than using only the 1.5x/0.75x one and speeding up or slowing down only off of that
Agree, but it's actually funny to me seeing that perception of Nightcore as if it is changes pitch. Which in fact it's not. If you're slowing or speeding up something, you're shortening or lengthening waves AND the pitch changes with that. So basically, DT mod or "rate change without pitch change" actually is the "rate change WITH pitch change", because it forcefully changes pitch of sound waves, distorts them, thus making it sound worse (quality loss).
i don't even play osu! anymore but i love watching these update videos, watching a great rhythm game steadily getting better and better with the help of the community, it's great
Something I would love to see is an separate in-game UI that isnt displayed on the player's screen, but can be captured by OBS so I dont have to use 3rd party apps, but I wont be distracted by all the numbers while playing
I'm really excited to see how osu Lazer turns out! I've been trying to switch over and everything and playing os Lazer is just so much better for live streaming. Keep up all the good work!
Let's gooo! More Lazer updates! I have been using Lazer for a long time now, having fully switched. Every update is exciting (although not a little scary, sometimes it breaks Linux) because they always bring awesome new updates, often to things that have been bugging me for a while too. One feature I really want in the skin editor (that I haven't found maybe) is to revert to what it was. Sometimes you accidentally move something with your tablet pen and then if you press escape it just saves your changes.
@@DeanHerbertMooCow Awesome that you're also interacting here! I'll be looking forward to seeing those features make their way round. I'm not sure I have the time to delve into C# to make it myself tho xD
The one and basically only thing currently preventing me from switching to lazer as a mania player is the fact that mania skin imports are just completely broken, like astoundingly so. A bunch of elements are rotated the wrong way, placed in absurd positions, and one even has a long black bar that just wasn't there before. The skin editor is of no help in its current state either. Any info on when non-std imports will be worked on?
Please share your skin with us as we aren’t aware of any of this (apart from hacky long notes, which we are aware of and will eventually figure a way to fix)
@@DeanHerbertMooCow I've created a github issue the wording here is definitely a bit exaggerated, but it's based on what I remembered from a month ago; when I last tried after the previous lazer update video.
I hope they give us a toggle for the flashing part of the key overlay. It's _incredibly_ distracting... I know I can turn the whole key overlay off but _I want_ to have it on.
Man, the only thing that make me stay on osu! instead of osu!lazer is the lag that I feel on lazer. In the osu! Is around 60 to 70 fps, and in the lazer is like 10 to 20 fps
imo there should be a "touch" mod that makes the hit circles bigger and allows you to tap off to the side, similar to the "difficulty adjust" mod except it doesn't half your score. then, you can filter out touch scores on the leaderboard maybe
3:26 What a fantastic adition, it's very cool!!. Do you think a similar meter could be made, but instead of accuracy, it would show the max score possible? I always fantasized with one while playing mania!
Yeah for example for Random, there are quite a lot of variants of maps that are easier to pass with Random. For example take the Insane Diff of Masterpiece for example and you'll find that the square jumps get replaced with jumps that are much easier to read. Same goes for many old map, mostly the ones in "Lesjuh", "Nogard" diffs or take "Aurora 2" for example. Or other maps which are hard to read, because they place circles like 1,3,2 (distance wise). Or hard to hit because they place the circles just a tiny bit too far towards the screen edges and your mouse would normally nearly fall off there. But Random doesn't care, it puts it there where most people would expect it. These maps lose most of their gimmicks through Random, which makes Random a much safer diff to play with maps, that you've never touched before. (I've passed "Banned Forever" first try on "Nogard", despite me struggling for years to clear that one) I think that although it shouldn't influence given pp (I have enough confidence that the PP system is solid enough to handle the different map), that the achieved score should be moved to a separate tab, as you can't really compare two different beatmaps with the same difficulty to each other.
Bro, listen up, something is very not right on osu!Lazer because whenever I got to edit option and create a beatmap it asks me to select beatmap background image, and music. When I try to select and go to that directory where all my music and photos are stored, it won't show my musics and photos. I think it's an Android problem because I'm using Android version.
Will there ever be an alternative score and pp system that won't depend on combos, or won't depend on combos as much as it does now? I do not propose to replace one with another, but to make a separate leaderboard for this, for example, as in mania, catch or taiko.
please add a toggle for the background lighting for misses, 50s, and 100s on the argon skin. it almost resembles hit lighting and its extremely offputting sometimes when playing, if it was just the "OK" and "GREAT" text by itself with no lighting effects it would be perfect
I'm still wondering if I should try and contribute a Dance Evolution gamemode or not (not DDR, DE, known as "DanceMasters" in the U.S.). Most of the elements are basically the same as in standard osu, except it's controlled through the camera. (And foottapping, more lenient, and circle locks which are emulated through very short often bouncing sliders in osu). The problem is, I don't see how that gamemode would be any fun without the FMV (3D realtime rendered or not, doesn't matter yet) for the moving 3D models etc. And I don't see who would create content for this (it's just too hard to map with a real dance playing that also needs to be created or danced and matched and timed). That and I imagine it to be a nightmare to maintain and get to a state that's more than just a toy mod. So I think if I want that game to exist on home console and PC, I'd probably need to do it myself.
