    Stormy weather in SC today. Hopefully I can play around with my new ScanNCut DX. I gave my CM to a preteen girl who wanted one for Christmas. I told her to watch ALL of your videos!

    @BeckyThompson you may find that if you use the ScanNCut rotary blade, you wont get those hanging threads on your cut outs.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  7 місяців тому

      Agreed. But the rotary blade is extremely slow. It's quicker for me to just make the snip. Either way will work!

    I find that I often need to reduce the size of some Kimberbell files to get them to fit into the said hoop. They sometimes run just slightly larger than my Brother allows.

    I agree the SNC is going to be the best for appliqué but it is very expensive. I have a SC225 & 4 Cricut machines. It is actually pretty easy to place a design where you want it on the Cricut mat and I have cut out fabric many times on it. It is more affordable, so it is an option. The best part about the Cricut is Cricut access because you can find whatever you want there and also many multi layer designs for paper craft, it does not have the same editing functions as the SNC. The downside of the SNC is that there aren’t that many good designs provided and although you can use any SVG, it can add up when you are buying them individually. I know there are free ones out there but if you have a project in mind or want quality you do usually have to pay. I use my Cricuts much more than my SNC for papercraft because there is just so much more available. Also the Cricut mats are much better than the SNC mats, no taping etc needed. Cricut Access has 400K+ designs vs Artspira with a few hundred. I can scan something with my printer and upload it to Cricut design space. I realize that isn’t as easy as scanning it right into the SNC but it does work. I am glad that I have both but if I was on a budget I would by a Cricut first.

    FYI: I'm on a Mac. When you go back and cut out the black, it cuts out the live chat in the replay and then, I don't know what you are addressing in the comments. A suggestion would be leave the black in and then, I can just fast forward in the replay and have access to the live chat. If I recall, a comment last week from another Mac user said the same thing.

    Hi Becky, I'm catching this on the replay. Question, could you place the fabric on the mat without removing the paper from the heat and bond first? To me that would help in removing the pieces. Thanks

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  7 місяців тому

      Yes, I've seen that done. However you do run the risk of fabric shifting on the mat if the paper decides to let go.

    The SDX85 does cut on a 12x24 mat fyi. I have a SDX85 and mine came with a 12x24 mat

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, it will cut on a 24" mat, but it won't scan a 24" mat.

    I thought you said to always put fabic pretty side down if you used heat n bond because the mat would pull off the heat n bond off.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  7 місяців тому

      The mats used to be extremely sticky. But if your mat is not as sticky, then you can use HNB side down as long as you have a good adhesion to the fabric.

    Can you create an applique design with the fam file or only with an image file?-i thought the fam was proprietary to brother and i can one get the scan-n-cut to export a *.jpg (not an SVG)-i use mySewNet and can create applique from an image but if it is not “clean” I have to muck with it a bit

    • @PowerToolsWithThread

      Not this time. I created the svg files in Embrilliance from the placement line in the design. Had I not done that, I would have definitely resized a +2.
