Dude EZMix 2 is literally a life saver. I use it on everything I make in some way or the other
The thrash is strong with this one
Sounds like Kreator
Grab a coffee, sit back and let's make some Metal with EZ Mix 2! \m/
My first thing I've done was coffee as usual! :D
Great video anyways, I'd appreciate a unique video of your basic setup in cubase!
Keep it up!
That riff at 0:39 just KILLS! I love it!
EZ Miz 2

Pete is just a dork that got bored then got really good at guitar. It's awesome.
Outstanding riffage!
Thanks! :)
Great work! Riffs are AWESOME!
I am waiting so hard for an album of yours! you are a gift to us!!!
Pete, thank you so much! Love all you do man. Truly inspiring my friend. I'm so close to recording my first project. it's taken me many years to get to this point. I hope I can figure out all the technical stuff with help from guys like you, Leo and Fluff I feel like I have a fighting chance.
This is awesome Pete! Talented man!
Thanks for showing the way master Pete! :D Love your vids, such good riffs, many tips&tricks
I'm gonna Patreon you tomorrow, you got me a job to do with my mixes :D
Keep this awesomeness up!
That bass track is EPIC! Brilliant work as always Pete!
Thanks! :)
These type of vids are so fucking amazing!! Thanks a bunch for sharing and for the amazing tones as always!
Thanks for watching! :)
This was really great. I have EZ Drummer 2 and EZ Mix 2. I haven't really experimented with EZ Mix 2 but now I think I'll give it a shot.
Yas, Riffmaster Pete is back!
I've been gone a month which is far too long, more videos soon! :)
Pete Cottrell ..hope so
Agufish heyyy its agufish!
ayyyyy it's Emir!
He sounds like Sylosis, and he sounds awesome!
Amazing Riff! Great video! I just started a riff section as well, I'm not that good though haha, thanks for the mixing tips!
Man,you are a riff god! I was always wondering why do you post a video once a week and not do it more often, but now I see how much hard work you put in this videos.I've been watching you since you had about 25000 subs. You deserve much more subs for sure.Keep up the great work! \m/
Thanks, yeah I've been running behind for a few weeks and this took ages to put together. But next video won't be a Month away like this one was :)
God damn u can write some killer riffs, great channel man!
Love the way you explain things. Straight to the point with no unnecessary bullshit. Keep rockin' Pete!
Thanks for watching! :)
Yo Pete!!!! Great video, I've been subbed for awhile. Keep up the awesome videos!! Cheers!
Thanks for watching and the Sub! :)
Great work sounds awesome!

Pete Cottrell I've had to turn this up so that my neighbors could hear it. Keep up the good work.
Awesome job! 🤘
Always rocking it Pete...cheers M8 🤘

Pete ''The Bottomless Pete (Pit) of Amazing Riffage'' Cottrell.
Absolutely amazing as always! \m/
I absolutely love when you're doing this mixing/mastering/recording type of the videos, wish there could be more of these in the future ^^ highly informative and entertaining!
Great DIY session, Pete, thx. I've sworn by Cubase for years, just started on it by reckoning the ProTools market leader was subject to every differing mfg'r DAW 'sonic signature'.
So to be different.
I also like mids better as they go in Cubase.
thanks for the Vid! Very interesting!
wow, that's one MONSTER of a song!
Thanks! :)
Pete Cottrell would you make it a full length song oh my riff god? *.*
Damn this one is sick ! Nice work :)
Thanks! :)
what a sick room \m/
Good sounding, ive use th-u for guitars, but this mix sounds good too in my opinion, great video 👍
I am one of those guys that have been playing guitar for over 25 years, and have some seriously serious lack of knowledge when it comes to EQ and things like that. EZMix2 has completely fixed that for me! If you have Zero knowhow abot EQ, mixing and mastering, I can't recommend this enough!
Sounds fucking incredible!
Wow, Awesome vid.....
Finally uploaded!:3 when I listen to this it makes me feel like im in a scary haunted house :D nice riff!
fascinating
Fucking incredible playing mate really creative and love how informative and helpful it is
Awesome, thanks for watching! :)
The lead at 1:10 is very Nobuo Uematsu. Sick as always Pete!
Amazing as always! Unfortunately I've already had a coffee and I can't sit here for the next 20 mins, but I find it interesting that your show us how you edit and mix your stuff
Watch it on x1.25 speed and save some time! Thanks for watching :)
Ha thanks for the tip! You sound a bit anxious on 1.25 speed, now you're the one who drank too much coffee, aren't you? :)
Ha ha :)
Sounds huge dude, awesome video as always. My only critique: I would have liked to hear you on/off the effects a bit more so I could hear the differences.
Awesome!
21:12 sounds like some background music from Quake II.
Getting some very Sound of Perseverance-era Death vibes from that track. Nice job as always, Pete!
Thanks! Love Chuck's music :)
This is definitely tempting me to get some more EZ Mix plugins... Great job!
Scratch that, I'm getting the Ambient EZmix Pack for sure.
Awesome! Tell them I sent you! :)
Will do! And thanks so much for this video dude! It takes a lot of guts to strip down a personal creation like that and show everyone in detail exactly how you've done it. I've learned so much from watching this video so, once again, thank you! :)
Man, that is really cool!
Would love to watch (and hear, my god those individual channels rock just separately) some mixing. Music listeners maybe does'nt like it that much, but the guitar playing fanatics like I am would like it a lot.
I actually really dont understand the levels of effecting that one channel goes throu in your setup, tho I am watching your videos for a while, and I am crawling towards an engineering degree. :D
It's great to get some good tips to help with mixing. It's something I'm starting to look in to at the grand age of 42! Thanks Pete!
Genial!
Kinda sounds like some Sylosis, decent stuff
Love Sylosis! :)
Fusion of metalcore and mainstream thrash.
Great video, really inspirational! Going to play guitar, click drums and drink coffee for the rest of the afternoon.
Awesome! Thanks for watching :)
Sick track man
Thanks! :)
This is Golden. Beginning to end. metaaaaaal \mm/
That song sounds like it came off Chimaira - Resurrection, nicely done man!
your bass sounds sooo good
Thanks! :)
Really nice.
Thanks! :)
Nice content! Keep it up!
Thanks for watching! :)
Man my biggest gripe with Superior Drummer is that snare volume. Gotta pull like 6 db out of it from the construct if you're gonna run it at %100 velocity
good stuff!
I love the gallop riff 😍😍
+Drum_Instinct Thanks! :)
Finally. It's been forever since you last uploaded
I know, planned video fell through so had to change my plans. Thanks for watching! :)
it's ok. Congrats on 100k, btw
Thanks \m/
considering i've had your channel running on a loop the whole day, this is the perfect way to end this pretty boring work day :) whoop, thank you !
Thanks for watching! :)
great video!
Thanks for watching! :)
I dunno how you learnt how to riff like this but I envy it aha, keep going man you're doing some awesome work, like really, I don't often comment but you motivate me to create and play music! so I just wanted to show some support :)
Happy to help with that music motivation! :)
It has an As I Lay Dying kick, different in a way, but still good.
Ever consider trying Get Good Drums? Loving the riffage my dude!
Sounds like Exodus, I like it!
SYLOSIS guitar riff and rythm ??
Good :)
Thanks for the video, I've been using EzMix for a few months and always had a problem with the fact that in order to have a certain attack, I would use a TSE preamp sim in front of ezmix on Keith-Conquering tone, which led to noise problems and me being forced to use a gate and cut off most of my beloved sustain. What you have shown is absolutely magic. Did you use any additional noise suppressors? I wouldn't have known about the Mark Lewis pack without this video as I never check Toontrack news. Cheers mate :D
sick riff. reminds me of sylosis a lot lol
Pete, I'd love to see what some of your pre-playing warm ups are. Do you stretch? Besides playing do you warm your muscles up in anyway?
Love the content!
I do lots of Legato and Alt Picking exercises around the G Major Scale in 3 note per string configuration. Thanks for watching! :)
I may have asked this question before, Pete, but is the Chapman 7-string currently your favorite guitar you own? Awesome work as always. Keep rocking and riffing!
these riffs remind me of Sylosis. I'll take it!
I've seen a lot of engineers saying bad things about EZ Mix in forums. I have EZ Mix and Superior Drummer 2 and love them both. If you don't know anything about mixing and expect some products to do it for you, don't expect a good result. If you know what you're doing, EZ Mix can be a great tool. A lot of the metal tones are a little too harsh on the high end for my taste, but a small EQ dip can easily fix it. The packs I have are Alt Rock, Ambient, Amps, Bass Toolbox, Drum Toolbox, the original EZ Mix 1 and 2 packs, Lead Vocals, Mastering 2, Metal Guitar Gods 3, Rock, Rooms & Verbs, and Vocal Toolbox. Sweetwater was having a sale where you could get 6 packs for $120. Usually, a 6 pack is $149. I also got SD2 for $99. That's currently the price to upgrade from SD1 to SD2. I never had SD1 and I only paid the upgrade price for SD2. Sweetwater doesn't disappoint.
I'm not a member of any forums, but if anyone else is, this mix ought to shut up the haters.
Sounds rad, man. Reminded me of Sylosis, you should check them out
I'm very familiar with them, Josh and Bailey are awesome! :)
That's exactly what I thought. Just needed the obligatory sweep arpeggios to complete the sound.
any date of release for the new album??
Nice song. Sounds much like trivium and sylosis.
I see you like the Battlecross presets. those are from my friends Band . Battlecross from Michigan.
Sweet! :)
Pete sorry but i need something to ask you
how you record your Screen and the sound appear too??
since i usually record everything when doing mixing, etc and never getting sound appear when record screen /sob
That lead he plays in the beginning... sounds like something Synyster Gates would play! 😁
Thx Jesus I got a new pair of Focal Studio Monitors to put them right next to my ears to fucking smash my brain with this great music !!! sounds totally awesome
Awesome job Pete ! did you put the both basses on center, or L and R ?
+devilsplotz Thanks! Yep, both tracks are in the Center and the Bass Buss is Mono :)
Will you make any lessons on writing riffs? i would totally buy that stuff, along with many other people i suppose.
+CarnivorousRoach Probably not, I'm never happy with the riffs I write. I honestly don't know how to explain to someone how to write riffs or songs, but the best advice I can think of is to listen to the music you love, identify the song structures and what you like about their music and incorporate it into your own songs. Thanks for watching! :)
0:20 sounded very Blotted Science, not the harmonies and polymetres, but the tones and the octaved lead
Omg :D Awesome song
Thanks! :)
Love your videos man! I was wondering if ezmix was worth getting. Glad you made this video. Just one question. What are you using to get your distortion? Was that a part of ezmix or did you use your default distortion through ezmix on your guitar bus?
Thanks! They're all presets in EZ Mix 2 or the Mark Lewis Metal Tones Expansion :)
Pete Cottrell So that expansion is for ezmix?
Yep, you need the base EZ Mix 2 Plugin and then the expansion packs work within that. Kinda like adding patches to a Kemper, Axe FX or Line 6 POD :)
Pete Cottrell Too awesome man! Thank you for your time. Liked the vid already and subed a long time ago. ;) Peace man!
bad ass
Похоже на группу Sylosis, местами.. В общем круто звучит, в миксе просто зашибись, из этих рифов можно собрать хороший, полноценный трек.. ))
i wanna start making my own music but i don't have the metal foundry expansion for sd2 or the progressive foundry, can you still get good metal drum sounds out of the default kits?
miles janes totaly bro the default kit con sd2 its great!
the most important thing is to just start doing it because your first couple of projects will sound kinda bad no matter how good your gear is. it's a learning process like everything else. in fact, if you start out simple and get good with whatever is available to you right now, you'll be able to appreciate it much more once you finally upgrade to something better. and you'll be able to actually hear the differences in order to decide if an upgrade is really doing it for you!
Too drunk to watch all of it.. Maybe tomorrow..
He said drink some COFFEE... Make it Irish.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have my guitar running threw a focusrite interface set on inst to my desktop that has Cubase and Easymix 2. I've added Metal Gods 3 pack. My guitar sound is not even close to yours. Is it because I'm using headphones? Or maybe my stock BC RICH villian 8 string pick ups really suck? The tone seems sorta weak and dull. I have my gaming headset plugged into the front monitor headset output. Or is it because I running it direct and your using a mic on a amp?
The black metal intro 👌🏻
Nice! Would have been sweet if Toontrack provided you with a coupon/promo code for some of the products used in this video.
Thanks! Maybe next time, there's a sale on lots of the EZ Mix and Superior Line right now though :)
I don't like EZMix2 using it 'cause it generates a LOT of noise.
Some could call me a noob or whatever, but I prefer Amplitube 4. And with the drums, I prefer Addictive Drums 2.
Sowy but no sowy.
Great video btw
Do you have a reason not to use the drum editor in Cubase? As opposed to the piano role?
Ctrl + D shortcut that snaps to the grid much easier. I just find it easier to work with, if I want to edit the velocities of lots of the notes I'll open it up though. Thanks for watching! :)
Pete Cottrell thanks for the quick response. and it's cool seeing how other people do things. love the videos, never stop! \m/
I have a problem which is kind of frustrating. I just bought ez mix with 6 packages. I did everything like you did, same presets. But my guitar tone sounds like crap. Muffled and very unpleasant to the ear. It also happened with neural dsp, bias fix. My gear is:
Cubase elements
Universal audio arrow
Mac mini
Ibanez prestige 7 string with dimarzio titan pickups.
Ibanez premium with dimarzio evolution
I’m running out of options literally. The only thing I didn’t change was the guitar cable... it would be stupid that my crappy tone would be the result of a cable... got any ideas on this issue? Btw, like your videos and subscribed.
Good stuff, Pete! Why the jump to Cubase, though? If I remember correctly, you were a Reaper guy!
+Aman Bhargava I've been Cubase almost from day one, started with Sonar but moved over years ago. Thanks for watching! :)
What is your main 7 string tuning? I've been trying to find one that can be melodic but still heavy, but not really a fan of tuning down to G, what would you suggest?
Also, how do you go about writing? I'm kinda having trouble writing guitar riffs tht go well together, any suggestions?
Vid says straight into the interface with DI? So is that guitar plugged directly into the interface, or via a DI box then in?
Directly into the interface :)
@@peteplaysmusic Brilliant, cheers! :)
apparently \m/ is the hand sign for "middle position"... I didn't know that! ^^
You would a piece of onion Sound good! Instant like
There's almost no point in forming a new metal band with pete constantly spitting out new riffage
