You know i found this channel about a month ago and it didnt even click with man at arms in my head until recently but i gotta say i like this channel better, you show more of your work and actually bring us along with the project i tried blacksmithing as a hobby and got quite good for the tools i have at my disposal but i got 4 kids so i can at least watch yall do it and learn until the times get better and i can get back into it
Much respect for continuing to challenge yourself! i like that you used a lower layer-count to create the look you wanted rather than use the "more is better" approach.
Absolutely brilliant! The symmetry and cleanness of the pattern is a sight to behold. As for the handle, as a hole, what a beauty! That ff disc is a killer. Fantastic job, really glad for the new video.
Man, Matt, you really are such a fantastic bladesmith. I don't know, I understand that people are wondering "Where is Ilya" but it's a shame that some people don't recognize that your work is genuinely great. I am watching some of this after having worked on a swordsmithing project for a while and I just realized that you have more skill than I ever will. No glazing lol. Sorry if this is parasocial or weird or anything but I felt it needed to be said. I can't wait to see the projects you'll make next. ThatWorks is really the best bladesmithing channel on UA-cam right now.

@@ThatWorks one of these days I want to stop by the shop again to show you the knife sheaths I’m making for your Journeyman set. At the moment I’m still in the drawing phase.
You bringing it back to welding temp after the twist is good I have to do that when making twisted wrought iorn rings cause they do shear a bit but nothing you can’t close back up if you do it proper you’ll weld all of it up leaving some beautiful twist in it
A Japanese sword with this color scheme would be pretty awesome. Seriously. People will shout "mall ninja" but the overall color scheme is very good, and a tsuba done in that style would be great for an anime villain.
That's a great looking piece of wood, the stain and oil really gives the whole rondel more pop. I also like you went with the uniform triangular blade to show off the symmetry of the damascus.
That has to be my favorite rondel dagger I’ve seen from any website/youtuber. Sad to see Illya not here, hoping he’ll guest star in future episodes, but glad to see the quality is still here.
I agree, Illya's contribution is missed and the quality of the builds is still there. I can understand why Illya has stepped back though, being a Master Armourer and only ever being asked to produce blades doesn't help him grow in his craft. Where is the request for a scale mail suit of armour? Or plate mail? or even ring and chain mail? For a shield? Helmet? With Illya being focused on all of those and never getting to actually build them by request it is understandable why he has stepped back to focus on them, sad he has not chosen to bring us along on his journey to explore his craft.
The man that repopularized the rondel among the internet, at least. Also have to say Tod's works are impressive, and it feels mysterious however he makes them, since he's never shown the process. His making of Geralt's sword has to be one of my favorites. Good enough that others have replicated it.
Lovely work as usual, and the sandwich guard with roping is the highlight. I’m not sure I’d have gone with an octagonal shape over a hexagon, to compliment the threefold symmetry of the blade.
this question has been asked so many times but ive never seen them answer it only thing i can think is Ilya left or is just done with the youtube part of the business and Matt is worried if he confirms that then the channel will take a big hit since alot of people were prob here for Ilya so hes just pretending its business as usual

Amazing Build! as far as other weapons from Dark and Darker I'd want to see, it would be the Arming Sword. hope to see more builds form this game, cuz yeah they have a lot of Good ones! also a fun challenge you might want to take on if you are going for More detailed Builds is to try and recreate the Artifact weapons. they are the highest grade of Weapons in the Game and are Magic variants of the normal weapons.
I’ve always wondered why people don’t use a big tap tool to twist the billets. First time I’ve watched this channel. But so many others do the shifters thing
Gator piss may etch you a depth on a blade, but will not not darken the pattern on it. also if you need a perfect forge weld, why not a cover gaps between sheets with TIG weld? or weld a tin sheet piece over them to prevent an air inside a packet?
Rondel daggers didn't punch through armor - unless you mean mail. They were used to go between the gaps in plate armor - and they did so very effectively. No need to give the dagger a magical property it didn't possess.
I knew I should have driven this through a piece of metal in the demo. Yes it was meant to find the gaps in armor but it certainly can be driven through plate if needed. At least cheaper foot soldier armor.
Thank you! I hope to make a series out of Dark and Darker builds and have more streamers involved. Thanks for you great content! I watch almost every day!

@@ThatWorks Makes sense. Most things are more fun without pressure... and nobody is questioning your bladesmith skills. Thank you for the answer. Have a nice day. 👍🌞👍
The rondel paired best with a full mitten gauntlet often used by the armored knights known to carry these daggers to defeat ring mail, puncture visors and gaps, etc. Matt Easton's channel Scholagladitoria has a great video on rondels, and so does Tod Cutler's channel, Tods Workshop. Tod actually males them and tests them in several videos

I love the wood spacer in the guard. That’s a cool touch, having it visually mix with the wood of the handle. Great job brother.

Beautiful piece. I bought a Tod’s workshop twisted Rondel dagger about a year ago. They just look and feel so purpose built.

Beautiful dagger, love how crazy dangerous three sided blades are
You merely adopted the darkness. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see light until I was already a man and by then, it just gave me sunburns. 😂
More actual work and skill went into this dagger than the entirety of dark and darker as a game. Fantastic work as always.
