Whenever you look at a recipe on a site it has the "what is this dish", "The history of this dish", "Why this dish is great", When you should eat this dish"...it takes 30 seconds of scrolling before the recipe actually starts.

Good old fashioned cooking with good old fashioned produce.
I have heard alarming news from the UK that malnutrition conditions
such as scurvy have returned with the inflation of recent years.
Cabbage is among the cheapest foods there is, and it will keep scurvy off.
(I think I have heard that Captain Cook gave his sailors sauerkraut.)
My dad, who was born in the early 30's and died earlier this year,
suffered from rickets (called the English disease here) as a small child.
Milk in my country has long been enriched with vitamin D to prevent rickets.

Here in Victoria Australia, if we buy a single onion, it can cost up to 85-90 cents. Fresh fruit and vegetables are almost too expensive for the people with incomes under the poverty line. I struggle on an income less than $600 per week, my food shop alone, for my growing grandson and myself is in excess of $300 per week. I keep fresh fruit and veggies in the fridge and feed my grandson well…I am finding that I have to go without a couple of meals a week these days, which I don’t mind cos I’ve got ‘middle aged spread’ 😂 and can do with loosing a few kilos! 😉
Thanks for your recipe…they look so delicious and I will definitely try making them. 🤤😋👍

Crikey! Aussie here too😉. I have no idea what you are buying but it only costs me $150 per week usually for myself & my 2 sons & we buy some junk snacks & treats too. Which grocery store do you use? I prefer aldi but use others too. I would suggest joining some budget cooking groups if you are spending so much just on 2 people. Even just buying a cheap slab pre-made lasagne & some garlic bread & salad is an easy cheat meal for us but we can eat 3 days worth of dinners for us 3 for $20ish. If you can make your own burger & hotdog buns & pizza bases it helps heaps too. Rice is awesomely cheap. My kids always have fruits available. We never have to go without. I'm so sorry you are struggling. It will only get worse with the current system of things so I suggest working on it now💚

You just dragged me right back to when I was a child! My nanna used to run all the school kitchens in London during and after the 2nd world war. What that woman could make out of basically nothing, always fascinated me. The skill completley bypassed my mother lol but I have two auntys that were cooks, I became a cook and my daughter is a chef, she had her own restaurant by the age of 21, using my nans recipies. Cooking from scratch is in our blood. Food tastes so much better I think. Fab video, no messing and clear indication of cost. Love it x

In Malaysia, we have a much smaller cousin to this pasty called "curry puff", which we fry instead of bake. I don't like making curry puffs that much as you need to closely attend to them when frying.

Now got to start again with finding another base van for less than the last as insurance obv didn’t cover what I spent on it. Being the great granddaughter of Cornish immigrants to the gold mines of California in the 1800s I grew up with pasties and made them myself. I now reside in the American state of New Mexico only 30 miles from the famous town of Hatch which produces the legendary Hatch Green Chili 🌶 ❤🎉. May I suggest that the addition of this chili to the pasties filling would delight and tempt all the saints of Heaven themselves! Once you experience the green chili no food can ever be without it and nothing could be better than a bottle of green chili beer with a green chili, potato, cheese and onion pastie; ahhh Heaven 😊

We have steak and gravy pasties, chicken & mushroom, minced beef and onion, even jam on its own. And Cornish pasties are diced potato, little bits of mince meat and veg like swede and peas. In Jamaica, they’re called patties and tend to have a spicy, curried filling. You can go nuts and put whatever you want in them. Enjoy your culinary experiments, love from South Wales, UK 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
