- Welcome back to the channel and part 3 of the short series on the underside restoration of what used to be a very very rusty VW T4 Transporter. In this video I fit the final pieces of the puzzle including the rear brakes, all the smaller brake lines and flexi pipes, the handbrake mechanism/cables etc, the fuel tank and tank straps, and of course the wheels!
The van is now back on the ground and rolling again. The focus now moves on to the engine which I will clean up and do a major service on, before refitting and hopefully getting it running. Please subscribe to the channel to stay tuned and up to date with the build and if you haven't already, please consider subscribing to help the channel grow!

Cheers for watching!!
Brilliant job again mate, never mind the baw bag comment on the copper brake lines not being professional, whole jobs been ultra professional ... at least they will never corrode!
Keep em vids coming… loving this T4 restoration👍🏻🏴
Cheers mate much appreciated, its a good job its nae his van eh ! 🤣 More vids to come , cheers for watching as always 👍🏻🏴
View 101! Boosh! 😊
Great series here. I'm watching avidly in preparation for the restoration of my own T4.
Loving the in-depth videos.
Thoroughly rewatchable with detailed steps throughout the build.
Definitely a thumbs up 👍
Keep them coming!
Thank you for watching, much appreciated!
Having already seen the photos on Facebook it’s looking great
Thanks!
It’s looking wonderful! I bought a T4 last week myself, I’ve already started working hard on it haha :) ready for MOT !!
Good stuff, they are great wee vans, best of luck with it 👍🏻
Good to see your progress 👍. I'm in the process of doing alot of this to my own 97 T4. There is light at the end of the tunnel, I hope 😂.
Thanks Graeme, it will all be worth it in the end!
Great work, one tip I would give you is buy the clutch repair bracket and fit it whilst engine is out as its a pain to get to when the engine is back in. :D
Hey, thanks for tip - I actually have fitted one already! 😃 thanks for watching
@ I made that mistake when my engine was out 😆nice work
Awesome job!
Thanks!
Brilliant work. At 17:15 I reckon that rubber bit sits inside covering the plastic and pokes out the hole, if it fits that is, I could be wrong though
You could be right actually, I'll need to double check that - cheers!
The bars at @16:55 are correct, but the cable leading form the rear caliper to the bars is upside down. When the handbrake becomes slack, over time, the bars will fall away form the rear cable. It happened to me when i bought my T4, couldnt understand why it was like that, then it clicked, it was upside down and allowed to fall as the pads wore/hand brake cable stretched.
If you need more clarification on this i can can try to explain more. Basically, the rear cables at the caliper need to be released and the ball turned 180 degrees. The bit that connects to the bar will now be the correct way and a slack cable will not let these two separate easily.
otherwise, great video!
Thanks for letting me know, makes sense! I will swap these over next time I'm under there - cheers for watching!
all this work and you install copper brake lines? not very professional
Good job its my van and not yours then eh?
