Hi jeff thanks for such a handy video. I am wondering if you fast reading memory card can be used for trsnsfer the raw photos into a solid portable hurd drive ? Thanks in advance.

The memory card reader I featured in this video connects to a lightning port compatible with most iPhone models. To transfer to a hard drive, you will have to transfer files from a memory card to the hard drive via a device that can link/connect the two. I don’t believe there is technology available that allows you to backup content directly from the memory card to a hard drive without a middle man.

Hi Jeff - Hope all is well. Do you have any recommendations for camera gear insurance while traveling on a safari? Basically insurance for drop and spills and theft/lost/stolen?

Great, informative video. Thanks for posting. I've got a Nikon D7000, but I don't think there are enough pixels (camera is about 13 years old now; +/- 16.2 megapixels). Thinking about trading it in. I kind of miss the older manual cameras with film. I'll check out your Amazon storefront.

How do you pack all of this in a back pack ? What backpack are you using ? Do you pack a carry on and a camera back pack ? What about a day bag for you camera while on adventures ?? 👀

If you love image stabilization, go with Lumix. Either LUMIX S5 (FF) or G9ii (m43). The latter is better for long lens.

Why on earth would you buy an expensive FF mirrorless camera only to skimp on the lenses?? Invest in good glass over camera body

Why use a APS-C lens on a FX camera ?
It defeats all the purposes of a FX body like wide field of view, 24MP becomes 10MP in photos, Low Light ability, Noise, background separation. You could just use a APS-C camera like A6600, A6700 which are much cheaper with inbody stabilisation. But since you already have a FX body, its better to buy a FX lens like the Sigma 100-400mm for Sony which costs almost the same as the Sony APSC 70-350mm or the Tamron 150-500mm. You get better background separation, better low light performance, same everything when used in DX mode as you are currently using and you get much wider field of view in FX mode with less noise. Most importantly you get the full 24MP of photos instead of 10MP, you always get the option of using your Camera body fully and also use it in APSC mode with a full frame lens.

Agreed! Anyone watching this video, please do not purchase this lens for a full frame body. that 70-350 turns to 105-525mm on a full frame body and drops your megapixels down drastically. Tamron 50-400, or Tamron 150-500 are your best budget options for full frame. Main point, don't buy APSC lenses for full frame.....unless you ONLY plan to shoot video with it.

Canon have muddied the waters. RF 24-240mm zoom and RF 100-400mm zoom. Both FF and fit their R series FF and APS-C. Very competitive on IQ and price, even against APS lenses. Sadly Canon R cameras only and they are not allowing third party lenses for RF mount. I'm sure other makers will sit up, note and compete.

What do you suggest as a good starter beginner set up? Was looking at the a7 but the 6700 being cheaper might be better? Or possibly Olympus om-d? Seem to know what you’re talking about!

@@derekfeld9779Sony A6700 + Sony 100-400mm would be best for safari scenarios, as the cats come pretty close giving you a perfect range of 150-600mm without being heavy. The next best option is the 200-600mm, also very good but heavy and you lose the close range, it gives you 300-900mm. You can find both of these lenses used. The next best light & cheap option would be the Sigma 100-400 (gives you 150-600mm), Sigma 60-600, Sigma 150-600mm & Tamron 150-500mm.
But keep in mind whatever you do, don't buy APS-C lenses. In a few years you might buy a used A7iv, then all aps c lenses will be useless.

@@derekfeld9779 Sony A6700+ Sony 100-400mm giving a field of view of 150-600mm. Perfect Light weight combo for safaris. If you want a cheap full frame, A7C version I has the updated autofocus rather than A7iii. For serious birding lenses, other recommendations are Sony 200-600 (but you lose the near end, it gives approx 300-900mm and it's heavy), Sigma 150-600mm & Sigma 60-600mm (90-900mm). Tamron 150-500mm is also a choice. One other light weight combo for A6700 is the Sigma 100-400mm. For APS-C cameras like A6700, I would suggest either the Sony 100-400 f/5.6 or Sigma 100-400mm f/6.3. Its light and gives you 600mm. For Full Frame like A7C I/Sony A7iv/ A7R3, i would suggest the Sony 200-600mm.
