Can you imagine being at Anderson AFB in 1945 with a couple hundred of these guys cranked up and ready to take off? It must have made the ground shake.
Perfect timing as I sit here this weekend and just opened a cedar military trunk of my late grandfather's from WW2. Our history is so important. Its so sad people are trying to destroy the history. The B29 is as good as it gets. Such a beautiful work of art. Keep the powder dry
Imagine being on Guam or Saipan or Tinian in1945. Those planes were most likely loaded well over max military weight. Full power takeoff. Those engines were screaming😊
One of my earliest memories is when I was 4 years old watching these magnificent planes fly out of the Witchita, Ks plant over my home town 30 miles away on the way to war, some going East, and others turning West. There were alway several in formation. I can also remember the men coming home, getting off the train with their lunch buckets, after a long day at Boeing building them.

My father was a USAAF B-29 navigator 1944-1945. He died in 2016 age 94. He saved - and I have - his original flight jacket with squadron insignia. My son and I visited (did not fly on) FIFI at Boire Field in Nashua NH in 2018. My family are Friends Of Doc. We wish he would come east (New England).
My dad was a flight engineer in ww2 on a B29. Saipan, Tinian kwajelin, Gaum. He said kwajelin runway was SHORT and you could get the nose gear wet if you werent careful. Thanks dad.
Watching the frame rate error as the propellers start up and go faster, you really can appreciate the level of synchronization it takes to run these muti engines.
I worked on McConnell AFB doing an upgrade on their fiber network and got to go into the hanger where DOC was being restored…even got to go aboard! Was so awesome
@ actually could have been a Boeing hanger…also got to see a couple of the Air Force One planes that were over on the Boeing side that were there for maintenance.
I see Doc flying over my house all the time. Ive got lots of awesome photos of Doc flying over my place. I live 1.6 miles from the B-29 Doc Hangar, Education & Visitors Center here in Wichita, Kansas.
When I was 5 my dad brought me out to the flightline and had me crawl through his B29. It was an active SAC bomber at Biggs AFB, El Paso, Tx 97th bomb wing😊
It was remarkably beautiful, enormous tail aside. Cool that even under the gravest of pressure, American engineers didn't forget about the importance of beauty in design.
My BIL and I rode on Doc out of Coeur d Alene airport a few years ago. He bought the nose seat, I sat across from the FE. A bunch of $ to take the ride but the thrill of a lifetime.
Burbank Aviation. Southwest Airlines BUR to EUG hasn’t been operating. I looked at EUG schedule and it is no longer on the schedule. When Southwest Airlines did do BUR to EUG my Uncle Booked it twice. He got rerouted through Oakland change planes OAK to EUG for the 1st trip And his next trip from BUR to EUG witch is coming up in a few weeks he got rerouted through BUR LAS change planes LAS to EUG .
Can someone who knows something about these planes explain why the engines smoked so much when they were first started? Did they have a loose ring fit in the cylinders? BTW what a beautiful airplane!
My dad did not fly B29s to the best of my knowledge. He did fly B18s & B52s, 18s in WW2 & 52s for SAC. I saw the 52s lined up in Tucson, waiting to be chopped up for scrap per treaty reqs. It made me sad to think my dad probably flew most of them. He is long gone now, but to this day, my sister says "Dad is watching over us" every time she sees a contrail in the sky. Who am I to say that is not true.

Sounds just like our Martin Mars water bombers which one plane The Hawaii Mars made its final flight to a aviation museum near Victoria Canada. the second plane Philippine Mars is being prepared for a final flight to Tucson Arizona museum sometime next year.
Funny how my old 1990's VHS camcorder would record planes starting, taxiing, and flying at airshows and the footage always showed the propellers turning naturally...now all these digital devices can't get the right "frame rate" or whatever technical reason and always show the props turning slowly, bending, fluttering, turning backward..drives me nuts...seems like they could get that right if they could on the old equipment....
Great B29 story from WWII in the book Proof in the Night by a B29 pilot, Ernest Picket, written by his daughter K P Burke. Flying over the hump to China and on to Japan where he was shot down and spend a horrifying year plus in prison camps.

I'm presuming that somebody was supposed to be in charge both in that aircraft & that mob of useless people standing around whilst the engines were being turned over!! I'm totally appalled at the sheer number of people standing, milling around with no apparent job specification but merely chatting with one another whilst the PIC (pilot in command, yeah right) was turning those engines over!! If ever there was a scenario of an accident just waiting to happen this has to be it!! In all reality I just can't believe what I've been watching yet the PIC is going to fly that B-29!! Just confirms my desire to get behind the controls of a B-29 even though my total flying hours are zilch because after watching this guy (supposedly in charge) it simply means its all on for me!! If he can do it, any dork can including me, and they wonder why accidents happen!!! If ever there was a case for Aviation Safety & Security to have a look at a potentially dangerous situation it is indeed this very scenario!! So if this is their level of ground safety just what the hell is their safety in the air like?? (I believe you can pay to fly with them???) yeah right!!
This is such a lame video. Waste of time, in my opinion, beautiful aircraft but losey footage of it taking off. Big let down. Thanks for wasting my time.
Mechanics had to keep these ladies flying! That was my Father. Still being a machanic till the age of 101 in 2021.

Such a beautiful plane and brave young men flying her during WWII
I was lucky enough to book a ride in Doc two weeks ago when it came to Ogden, Utah. Bucket list.
Same a few months ago. What a cool thing that was.

Takes a lot Power to Start Those Engines 😊

What a beautiful aircraft! Love those WW2 planes!
Doc, Fifi, and 4014 could be the most awesome sounds out there today. I would have loved to see 100 of these beauties in the air. Aluminum overcast.

Great video. I got to see Doc fly over a few times while it was in Camarillo it was so awesome to see it in the air.
That Hankerchief conversation had me giggling. Takes me back to hanging with my grandpa as a kid
Amazing machine developed in early 40's.
Flew right over me in Northern Arizona on Oct. 13 - beautiful sight and sound!
I seen the b29 in tomsriver nj years ago . My daughter sat in the piglet seat. I wish I booked. A ride back then.
My father, who was a navigator on a B29 remarked on this video he said that's the longest he's seen a B29 run without the engines catching fire.👍🤣
I love to see and hear radials
Can you imagine the sound of 50 or more firing up to go on a mission Awsome!!
Outstanding footage, I wanted to go really bad, but I couldn't make it, so thank you for the great video - Liked & Subscribed 👍😎
I flew out of Tulsa on ole Doc. Was great.
Love the tiny fire extinguisher.
My dad stood guard over one of the first B-29's to go overseas
Araçatuba-SP... Brazil. Aeronave cromada ficou linda.

I believe I saw this beautiful plane flying 10/03/24 above KCMA and again while taxiing 10/08/24.

About 30 minutes …
It's all about the heroism!
It's fun to watch the propellers - they seem to stop and go backwards.
8 K photography - Ultra Sharp .

Is DOC a Silverplate (or Saddletree) machine - or just didn’t have turrets installed during its rebuild?

My Dad was a B-17 mechanic in Africa and Italy, what has happened to the Mighty Boeing ?
They should be using a High Speed Cleat Track to push Doc.
A question: in war emergency to fly. How long to start this four engine? While the enemy is coming soon to attack. 😅

There are times that I hate digital. Great video record though.
THEY rotated the engines to long with out ignition and over primed them flooding the engines with fuel and oil !!
Can someone tell me why ww2 aircraft always start inside starboard engine first?
Inside them old bodies , now breathes a 19 yr old. You cant see it , use your other senses . Feel it .....
Nose gear part replaced
The B-29 aircraft were built at willowrun aircraft plant in Detroit Michigan
