  • This video has been a while in the making as hunting wild dogs is not easy. 9 times out of 10 you don't find a dog. But patience pays off and I finally managed to down a few dogs.

    Interesting amalgam of short expeditions. Work is definitely keeping you busy with little time for leisure. Lots of technical information, great atmospheric landscapes and the fashion show showed what an extensive wardrobe you have. You must have more clothes than your wife, haha. Greetings from France,

      G’Day mate. Yes I have been very busy and haven’t had much time lately to put into UA-cam. Haha no my wardrobe isn’t as big as my wife’s. 😂 it’s just getting colder now so I am wearing my winter stuff.

    Great and exciting video mate.....You called those three dogs in beautifully.....They were all ready for a fight with other dogs when you stepped out and ambushed them....but they really did put the foot down and motored.....Great camera work and loved the dark mode......Cheers from Sydney...Gazza.

      Yes it’s always exciting when they come charging in like that. But it’s better when you see them coming from a bit further off. When they appeared in front of me was the first time I’d laid eyes on them. So they kind of surprised me a bit too 😂 but not as much as I surprised them 😂

    It is unfortunate the call does not have a more localized sound library, like distress calls from native birds where you reside.
    Fox distress might work in your area, for both foxes and wild dogs. Rodent distress would be okay too.
    If you have goats or sheep you could use those distress sounds.

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  2 місяці тому +2

      There are a lot of sounds in already on the caller but I just didn’t use many as I was targeting wild dogs. And at this time of the year they are very territorial as they have just mated and will be getting ready to have pups. So I find howling them to make them think another dog is in the area is the most effective way to call them up at this time of the year.

      @@intothenight1993 your mouth howl sounds much more dog like than the wolf or coyote sounds in the caller...good strategy, sometimes forget it is Winter on the other end of the planet.😉

    What are your thoughts on the ICOTEC caller Josh ?

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  2 місяці тому +3

      Well for me, that model wasn’t loud enough I. This wide open country. It is better suited to smaller more scrubby places. They do make a bigger one that gets a fair bit louder apparently but personally I found that I’d often leave it behind as it was just another thing to carry and I already carry enough gear as it is. I seem to have just as much success with my own voice anyway and it’s no extra weight to carry😂 but for someone that wants to set up somewhere and call up a fox I think they will be a good buy.

      Ye I use a Hellion+ in the UK and agree about the sound. As you say it's great for smaller areas such as here!
      Although, the Bluetooth function allowing you to play sounds via your mobile phone is very handy on this unit.. makes it much more versatile - or you can play you're favourite tunes when you are bored 🙂👍

      Not yet but I will be. I decided to change out the older brass I was using and I bought a heap of factory ADI ammo and I’ll keep the brass and then reload. I now have the use of Dillon 650 reloading press so it will make the reloading process so much quicker. 🤞

    Maybe you should invest in a thermal drone

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  2 місяці тому

      Would love one but it’s illegal to fly a drone at night unless you have the proper Licencing which costs a lot more than the drone.

    Do you get any animals killed by snake

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes sometimes. But there shouldn’t be any snakes around atm because they hibernate in the winter. We think she might have died from 3 day sickness. We actually lost about 3 that we found and were one short when we took them out the paddock. So 4 may have died.

  • @johnmead8437
    @johnmead8437 2 місяці тому

    If dogs killed the weaner there would be serious scuff marks around where it had fought and circled.
    Would the number of shots been loosed off with the bolt action is a question to consider. Accuracy wins over speed every time, and with a rifle that cycles faster the principle remains the same. Those shots didn't appear really difficult, so hopefully better days ahead taking a bit of time to get them in the right place (ahead). Using a caller (on different species) putting it out to one side by nearby cover is something that seems to work ok at times (plenty of failures too). The opposition comes in concentrating on it, not your position. Needs open enough situation to see, have done passing manoeuvres in the bush when after one that sits and answers, which usually means failure.

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  2 місяці тому

      There are always could of’s and should of’s and what if’s but when the adrenaline kicks in and they just appear in front of you not exactly where you’re expecting they have the element of surprise and you tend to make more mistakes. But you analyse your mistakes and try to improve next time.

    • @johnmead8437
      @johnmead8437 2 місяці тому

      @@intothenight1993 For real. Making sure of the short notice shots (and the longer ones) is as still as relevant with a faster cycling gun, & that extra fraction second makes a world of difference. Have been reminded enough on very tech wary animals of that. Too often for the ego. & passing them up is difficult knowing the next "hunter" will probably shoot at them given the chance. Contributes to why pests are doing ok thanks even with the flash tech and more hunters. Wouldn't want t be a pest on your patch though... On the ICOtec caller, had an earlier model get moisture damage. It never got wet to my knowledge but the port covers were poor. Was repairable, but a pain when it was wanted. They have their place.
