Wow! This is why we need to pay great people more money to work in government. Thank you #ProfGMedia for sourcing out an amazing and educational interview.
ENGINEER HERE - Jigar is 100% RIGHT pretty much everything but there's a couple of things he doesn't go into that much. I am only going to speak on COST PLUS here. I'll add another comment regarding the returns on infrastructure. My background is I started with a degree in aerospace but landed in industrial control systems mostly working in manufacturing and then mining with some water treatment and other things. There is a company Jigar specifically mentions who builds nuclear power stations that I have worked with in the mining industry. Like EVERY EPC (Engineering Procurement & Construction) company who works in cost plus their goal is *INCREASE the COSTS* because that increases profits. This is a major issue with large scale engineering projects and it doesn't matter what industry its in or if its a government project or private sector. COST PLUS is both a blessing and a curse. Its a blessing in that you can actually get projects that take years to complete done and this is very important to understand. Without cost plus its basically impossible to get these sorts of projects done. Its basically impossible to predict what labor or materials will cost in 2 years let alone 7 or 8 which is the minimum time scale for things like nuclear. Cost plus is a curse because it ACTIVLY PROMOTES horrendous inefficiency. For those who have never worked in cost plus and I have for several of what we call EPCs (Engineering Procurement & Construction). The way it works is like this. Whatever costs the EPC has they get paid those costs plus a percentage. Its usually something like 20% but it can be higher. SO (using cost+ 20%) If you have a person on a project at $100 per hour you make $20 per hour. If you buy $1000 of materials you make $200. If you buy a piece of equipment for $1 Million you make $200k. If the project costs $1 Billion you make $200million. HOWEVER if you can drag out that $1Billion to say $1.1 Billion then your profit goes from $200M to $220M and that extra $20M is as Scott would put it "bonus time baby." So if you have an employee who's gung-ho gets the job done fast you sack them and get someone less competent. If you have the choice between something that costs $800k and $1M you can either make $160k or $200k. So if a supplier offers a discount you tell them to EFF OFF because that costs you profit. This is why the nickname for EPCs is Extra Pain & Costs. There are SOLUTIONS or at least ways to mitigate this if you are the client. - Specify your project down to every detail you can. Give the EPC no wriggle room. - DO NOT make unnecessary changes to a project. Project variations are like orgasms to EPCs because they can EFF the client with them - In the contract include Completion bonuses for getting finished on time and on budget. I've never seen this done but believe it would be effective. - In the contract include clauses that reduce the cost plus rate once the budget is met or the time for completion is over. I've never seen this done but believe it would be effective. - In the contract include PENALTIES for late delivery. This is something that does get used and its effective. - On the client side HIRE the most competent project managers you can find and give them absolute control over the EPC with respect to removing people from the project who fail to perform. This occasionally happens and is also very effective. Go and find the story of Sun Tzu and the Emperors wives for reference
You are not speculating. It is very true. As an MD I am seeing many more young people with colon cancer. Not so today. The trend line is up and to the right.
Kudos to the producer for finding such an amazing guest! One of the best interviews I’ve seen in a long time. I feel like the media should’ve put out these people as the faces of the Biden administration…. That last point about government inefficiency vs govt risk appetite was layers deep! Honestly feel that Mr.Shah would’ve been better at delivering the economic message for Biden/Harris than say Mark Cuban (who was pretty potent in his own right) . Would’ve conveyed the depth of action of the B/H coalition as opposed to devolving around media personalities picking sides (Cuban vs Mr.Wonderful)

Get Jigar a podcast - Energy Now, or Juice Up with Ed asking market related questions and energy takes and entrepreneurship and climate. Scott’s wonderful on many things - but climate is a weak spot, and I think Jigar hits the right spot of solving climate by solving problems.
He used to do a show from 2012-2021 called The Energy Gang. They did an Energy version of Slates Gabfest format (which a lot pods used that format) and his other Co-host was the policy wonk/lobbyist, Jigar was the business guy, similar to what Scott's role with Kara. Jigar said on the last episode because of the cv he knew he had to serve and fix the LPO.
I know Sienna Elsie. as a popular crypto experts' people talk about, her transparency in the crypto community speaks for her, I attended her seminar in Brisbane last year.
Jigar, in the US we call industrialized construction 'pre-fabs.' Not really new. It has existed for years in the US. (I say this as someone who set up more than a dozen public private partnerships for DOE, many of which resulted in US companies you named in this session.) But yes, Government service is good and an honor.
Another factor to consider with the healthy food issue is the lack of parent (mom or dad) home with children. Yes, it's important to have clean healthy food but if nobody is around/has energy to shop for the food or worse yet prepare a meal...you are left with ready to eat unhealthy meals. If everyone has to work, who has time or enery to prepare a healthy meal?
So true. My family enjoys the Green Choice Healthy (no brand names mentioned) that are delivered weekly and prepared in 20-30 min. FRESH all the way (dry ice packaged). Save money and time.
@15:42 Well said Ed! RFK has in a few times in the past called for more transparency in the vxccxne trials-sphere. This is what is causing vxccxne stocks to drop; more transparency means more spending on R&D and therefore the fear of slimmer margins.
I swear Ed should be running the show and Scott should be listening in. Good perspective as Ed schooled Scott on the media bias with RFK Junior. Scott gets a little too emotional about all his people that he has bias against.
Netflix is a streaming platform, not a live streaming platform. They have different architectures and tech stack considerations. UA-cam live or Amazon Twitch could have pulled this off easily. I'm not surprised there were issues TBH. They weren't using middle out.
Hey Scott, as Oscar Wilde once wrote: “There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.” Appears in his 1891 novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. I agree there’s no reason to reply to Jon Stewart ‘s joke. And I agree with you, if they are making jokes about you, then people are listening. Love all your podcasts! Keep up the good work! It’s nice to have a chance to listen to intelligent conversations. Love the guests!
Great quote and great comment. When you consider the joke Scott started this podcast with (like a few others) *HE DESERVES* the occasional mocking. There's actually a serious side to this however and that's the staggering amount of mixed messaging form this whole debacle. Anthony Scaramucci made this great point regarding the overall messaging of this campaign (paraphrasing) If you're the mother of a sone who's stuck in the basement vaping and playing video games. Do you vote for DEI Kamal or the guy who grabs women by the pussy and brags to the World about it. If you're the father of a daughter who's worried about competing against boys in sport. Do you vote for DEI Kamala or the guy who would grab your daughter by the pussy. Similarly if you're a college student who just wants the Genocide in Gaza to STOP. Do you vote for Kamal who said she'd do nothing different or for Benjamin Netanyahu's preferred choice. Then there was Scott. One day he's saying we need to deal with the crisis young men are facing and the next he's saying Netanyahu is executing the War in Gaza perfectly which means slaughtering and maiming young Palestinian boys by the 1,000 and destroying any hope of a future they had. One day he's saying that its bad to vape and play video games the next he's describing how much "daddy likes his booze and drugs." Just yesterday I saw a debate between Cenk & Destiny on the David Pakman Show. *It was mindlessly pathetic.* On one side Destiny (a hard core Harris supporter) said (before the election) they should tell the progressives to get lost because they're losers. In the debate he re-iterated that. SO EVEN AFTER LOSING he was still holding the same stupid idea that you can tell a huge part of your base to get lost. ON THE FLIP SIDE Cenk was still harping on about policies but policies don't win elections votes win elections. Drowning people in a flood of policies DOES NOT WORK. It only confuses people and frustrates them with MORE MIXED MESSAGING. This was the actual point of Jon Stewarts commentary. The MIXED MESSAGING WAS SO BAD several million people simply threw their hands in the air and gave up on democracy. Trump didn't win so much as the Harris campaign confused people so badly that in a few weeks they went from aspiration to disillusionment to losing to "eating cats & dogs boy."
Glad you brought up Scots blind fealty to Israel. I am by no means a hamas supporter (and currently a big fan of the show :) but Scots take that 'we are just killing all the terrorists & then it will be smooth sailing' is beyond naive. Luckily the global Corp think tank guy pushed back on this, hope he was listening.
@tonywilson4713 it's weird that someone who genuinely seems to care about people & be a humanitarian can have such a glaring blind spot. Makes you wonder about your own ha
@@jankuzminski7183 Yeah - I find it amazing that Scott is so concerned about the plight of boys in Western society right now but doesn't care if those boys are Palestinian and instead thinks its fine to drop bombs on them, on their homes, on their schools and destroy any future they might have. Scott has 2 boys of his own. I'd ask Scott to his face how come the future of his 2 boys and the futures of many other boys means so much to him yet the future's of all those Palestinian boys means nothing. If he and others are serious and want Israel to be safe and secure wouldn't you think doing all you can *TO NOT* create the next generation of Hamas would be smart?
On automonous driving: recently very impressed by a Waymo testing near my kids' middle school. It navigated a busy interection with 2 dysfunctional crossing guards, kids and adults running across the street ignoring the crossing guards and a human driver who cut it off from another direction while it waited appropriately for the chaos to settle. Then it continued on its way without even a honk or an e-finger to all hte nonsense. I'm impressed with what Waymo is doing. Using only vision like Tesla? Not so much.
One thing that RFK has said he would like to do is make it easier for people to sue vaccine companies. Since no vaccine is 100% safe (there is bound to be someone that has an adverse reaction) these companies will obviously get sued at some point. The question would be is it the pharmaceutical company or the doctor that is responsible? Can the pharmaceutical company sue the doctor? What would be the risk benefit analysis in giving ANYONE a vaccine if doctors have to pay for adverse reactions? This either makes vaccines more expensive (to cover the added risks) or doctors charge more to administer them (to cover the added risks) or doctors/pharmaceutical companies no longer administer/make them at all. Then, those that DO get vaccinated, because others aren't getting vaccinated (too expensive or risk adverse)and thus lowering the effectiveness of herd immunity, can THEY sue the pharmaceutical company because it didn't work? Though it will probably just be a waiver signed by all parties. Still will increase cost (because they would have to hold on to this paperwork) though.
I didn't even know Jon Stewart was still on the air until I heard people talking about Scott being on there. But now that I think about it, I can't remember the last time I opened UA-cam and don't see Scott's face on every single video thumbnail on my home page, so I might be stuck in a bubble, haha.
Professor Galloway, those comedy sketches had no negative impact on your public image. They brought smiles to my face, because they're true statements. You're an unsung hero! Keep doing you. You're good at it.
Australian here - YES, YES and YES. I participate in the Steve Keen & Friends podcast each week and have been urging Steve to have Gary on there as well. The other person I keep urging Steve to have on his Mark Blyth who is also someone Scott should have on here. FYI - I just bought a copy of the trading game. Its next on my reading list.
24:04 glad Scott pointed at the elephant in the room here. That people who are the top income bracket are living longer and healthier (for the most part) and that those who work long hours for low pay are just sicker (as per the research from the CDC)..
RFK Jr. is being put in charge of HHS, not the FDA. If Trump put him in charge of the FDA, then I would understand your viewpoint that RFK Jr. might do some good. But that isn't what's happening. He is put in charge of a department where his views on vaccines and medicine are relevant, not the food industrial complex. I agree we should view our food and health as more linked, but that isn't how our departments are aligned.
None of these compromised appointments can manage themselves let alone direct millions of professionals. 2.0 brain only knows the demolition and destruction phase. Women have built and ran his worlds. (Ivanna Hotels, Superintendent for Trump Tower). Mr. Bankruptcy has been a consistent failure.
Maybe the preservatives stops us from having to buy food as frequent; what if the prices don’t go down but the frequency in which we have to buy food increases
NYT and RFK Jr are both wrong wrt Canadian vs American fruitloops. In Canada we have more _good_ regulation and America has a lack of regulation (banning various additives, increasing safety requirements). That's not a DEregulation problem as RFK Jr claims, that's a REregulation problem where more and better regulation is required. The area requiring deregulation, or at least simplification, is the tax code in America such that there are fewer loops holes to "avoid taxes", something that Scott has advocated for on a number of occasions.
The problem is that when you have someone like RFK Junior sowing doubts about vaccine efficacy to young mothers you end up with measles outbreaks and the victims are innocent kids. I guess it takes a measles and polio outbreak for people to understand what’s going on.
RFK Jr's request for "transparency" is disingenuous. What he's really saying is keep telling me stuff until I can find something I can make a smoking gun out of with my believe in pseudoscience.
Literally the people that Google the side effects of vaccines and find 1/500000 results that has 1 paper that a D grade med student wrote that says 1 bad thing.
20:00 'make money selling people denatured food and then make money treating their diseases' Well said. Seems like money is our only compass these days.
Autonomous car news is horrifying. In Florida, bros with a net worth of $40k can be self insured. And contingency law firms rarely sue individuals; only sue insurance companies. Chaos.
I’ve been a construction co owner in Industrial / commercial For decades At least in the north east You cant find a citizen between the age of 14-30 that wants to do physical work..
Scott's ageism is really really annoying. Not everyone over 25 is dumb, stale or rich. Also, private is just as inefficient and dumb as government. Government jobs are actually great and well paid
POPTART WAR TRIVIA #profgmedia In 2001, the United States military dropped 2.4 million Pop-Tarts over Afghanistan during the initial attack on the country. I am entertained and depressed, appropriately, by this excellent episode of The Prof G Show.
I'm retired at 27, This video here reminds me of my transformation from a nobody to having over 65,000 biweekly profit, a honest wife and and a good daughter full of love ❤️
He's a pharma fried nutcase. Wormhead perhaps. Do agree on pesticides and some of his early research. He did dive deep. Pharmas have compulsive and overly focused side affects. Too many Trumpians qualify too.
In the last 2 years we've installed one Terawatt (a billion kilowatts) of solar, and a single nuclear plant (1/1000th of solar)... And yet you put nuclear in the headline for this episode
I would highly recommend reading his books. He isn't a health expert he is an expert in corruption. No duality, both the food and drug industries are ripe with corruption.
If I were to immigrate anywhere in the world, it would be Mexico. Why has RFK not been charged with Accomplic to Murder in Samoa and extradited to stand trial?
@@JFromAcc That doesn't make any sense at all, some people are affected negatively from some vaccines. All people are negatively affected by smoking. That analogy makes no sense.
@chacerickard9979 Vaccine injury is exceedingly rare. Dying from smoking is not. Is it the perfect analogy? No probably not. I still agree that it is that level of stupid and that dude should be nowhere near HHS.
might want to go and actually listen to RFKjr talk on vaccines rather than pulling your info out of context and from headlines. EDIT: ok, just heard Ed experience what we who supported RFK from the beginning experienced from NYT and the controlled propaganda from all mainstream against RFK from the beginning (long time Bernie supporters rolling their eyes) . props Ed
I've only heard him talk about he and his families history taking vaccines and what the vaccine schedule looks like then/now, and the lack of double blind statistically significant safety studies, and comparing the European vaccine schedule to ours.@@jankuzminski7183
How can any commentary on energy build out that doesn't include the words 'energy density' be taken seriously? Clean energy build out claims seem wildly unrealistic.
Energy density is an important metric, but it’s not the only factor to consider. solar and wind have lower energy densities but are scalable in nature. The transition is not unrealistic-it’s already underway
@@michaelrogers749 Wind and solar will never be competitive with nuclear or fossil fuels due to lack of energy density. Simple physics. That's why they require massive subsidies to even exist. They will Rust in Place.
You guys do great work, but I think Ed and Scott are too far away from the ground truth on what makes Americans obese. If you give me two people, one who eats organic fruit loops with no artificial additives, and someone who eats mainly GMO beans, and vegetables sprayed with more pesticides than you can imagine, and you asked me to bet on their health outcomes - I’m betting on the GMO and pesticides guy every damn time. Should we get these dyes and additives out of our food? I don’t know, maybe. But it does not move the needle either way.
Prof Galloway John Stewart used to work for civilizational progress, but he just failed to keep up with the times. As so many did. Keep championing causes that address the fundamental problems as you do.

You're good at it.
i think he's great... but he absolutely alienates groups with his comedy
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I’m just trying my luck
I love Ed, but despite his informed opinion, I would prefer to hear more from Scott and his experience and judgment and keep Ed's commentary shorter.
Enjoying your perspective 🇨🇦
Amazing episode!
This was a great show.
I'd pay good money to watch Scott get in the ring with Marjorie Taylor Greene.
They sell Tang at Costco. Open you eyes Ed! Your special eyes!
Day 57: Please bring on Gary Stevenson (Garys Economics)! Thanks!
FDA is under HHS
None of these compromised appointments can manage themselves let alone direct millions of professionals.
2.0 brain only knows the demolition and destruction phase.
Women have built and ran his worlds. (Ivanna Hotels, Superintendent for Trump Tower). Mr. Bankruptcy has been a consistent failure.
@@greivous750 Well thank you for teaching me something today. I stand corrected.
Maybe the preservatives stops us from having to buy food as frequent; what if the prices don’t go down but the frequency in which we have to buy food increases
Great GD lads!
Europe solved GMO.
Pesticides in farming is an issue for sure. Appreciated your comment.
Guys, what was great about Tyson, is that it was free! We have to shell out 80-100$ for any decent fight now days.
Not sure what Jigar means by oil and gas "does" $1B/day......is that Capex? not very clear to me.
Yeah that stat caught my attention as odd when compared to “2 billion” in wind and solar
Profits? Might make sense because operating expenses of wind and solar are so low.
The problem is that when you have someone like RFK Junior sowing doubts about vaccine efficacy to young mothers you end up with measles outbreaks and the victims are innocent kids. I guess it takes a measles and polio outbreak for people to understand what’s going on.
Yup, zero mention of his actual goal which is the removal of mandates, which kills herd immunity. (oh yeah, that wasn't mentioned either 🤷)
My mom's 80 and still drinks tang! Lol!
RFK Jr's request for "transparency" is disingenuous. What he's really saying is keep telling me stuff until I can find something I can make a smoking gun out of with my believe in pseudoscience.
Arrested Development nutcase with Trumpian Contagion Illness.
Literally the people that Google the side effects of vaccines and find 1/500000 results that has 1 paper that a D grade med student wrote that says 1 bad thing.
Why doesn’t the government take some equity also for these loans,(or on bank bailouts). so they can profit from good ideas and pay off the debt
@ed what do you mean you don't like that you can buy regulations. When did they not buy regulations . See above lobbiest, oil and gas, tobacco etc
Jigar is an unfortunate name for the US
Love how you handled the Jon Stewart thing. I hope your son is taking it as well 😂
Jigar Shaw has appeared quite often on Bloomberg's Odd Lots podcast.
Prof g show is becoming red pilled with rfk, and I'm back for it. This was great and more objective episode, faked or not
tang is what we keep in our earthquake shed in California, so if we ever feel that big one, just know it's tang time
SBGAI network
20:00 'make money selling people denatured food and then make money treating their diseases' Well said. Seems like money is our only compass these days.
Where is Jigar going next?
Autonomous car news is horrifying. In Florida, bros with a net worth of $40k can be self insured. And contingency law firms rarely sue individuals; only sue insurance companies. Chaos.
The vaccine skepticism is because of him! He was the one who put out that paper about vaccines and autism in 2004
Tang! I grew up drinking that s*** as well 😂
I’ve been a construction co owner in

For decades
At least in the north east
You cant find a citizen between the age of 14-30 that wants to do physical work..
Love this show and your clips are gold 🪙
Scott's ageism is really really annoying. Not everyone over 25 is dumb, stale or rich.
Also, private is just as inefficient and dumb as government. Government jobs are actually great and well paid

I am entertained and depressed, appropriately, by this excellent episode of The Prof G Show.
If the Netflix crash for the fight surprised you, you definitely don't know about The Primagen lol
I'm retired at 27, This video here reminds me of my transformation from a nobody to having over 65,000 biweekly profit, a honest wife and and a good daughter full of love ❤️
I'm highly inspired.
Please spill some sugar about the bi-weekly stuff you mentioned
How does it remind you?
I was totally absorbed by this presentation. Every sentence had value. Thanks.
Chik-fil-a would be better if they didn't put so much sugar in their biscuits and buns
Where in Mexico?
Baja peninsula, somewhere. Think you have to know what you are doing or have a guide.
Acapulco isn't safe anymore.
Scott, chin up. Best response when there's no great come back..."Next". Ie "there's no interest here, boring, move on".
Does Ed not know what Tang is because he's a fetus or because he's from somewhere else?
Interesting fact! His name Jigar Shah means liver king 😅
FIRST
Kennedy is the least of the worries...he at least truly believes what he says and some of his statements are absolutely true.
He's a pharma fried nutcase. Wormhead perhaps. Do agree on pesticides and some of his early research. He did dive deep. Pharmas have compulsive and overly focused side affects. Too many Trumpians qualify too.
What’s up my Jigar!
Why isn't Jigar Shah being nominated to run DOE? Great guest who is a PRODUCER🙏
Oops...Kamala didnt win.
Tang was (is?) the shit!!!
What did you call him…?
How come there is no pandemic misinfo warning?
I would be a shame to loseJigar and his team's expertise on the altar of political ideology.
What did Jigar do to piss off Ed? 😅 Amazing guest by the way! You guys are my favorite podcast!
Being anti-vaccine is like being pro-smoking. It’s that level of stupid.
Couldn't agree more. And I rarely if ever agree with raiders fans... especially during raiders week 😉
But somehow smoking pot is exempt…because it’s cool now.
@TrendyStone It's always been cool. And isn't pumped full of carcinogens.
How much more would it actually cost to make fruit loops the same as Canada?
Less than the health complications?
might want to go and actually listen to RFKjr talk on vaccines rather than pulling your info out of context and from headlines.
EDIT: ok, just heard Ed experience what we who supported RFK from the beginning experienced from NYT and the controlled propaganda from all mainstream against RFK from the beginning (long time Bernie supporters rolling their eyes) . props Ed
What's his take on herd immunity?
I've only heard him talk about he and his families history taking vaccines and what the vaccine schedule looks like then/now, and the lack of double blind statistically significant safety studies, and comparing the European vaccine schedule to ours.@@jankuzminski7183
Jon Stewart...it was funny
How can any commentary on energy build out that doesn't include the words 'energy density' be taken seriously? Clean energy build out claims seem wildly unrealistic.
Energy density is an important metric, but it’s not the only factor to consider. solar and wind have lower energy densities but are scalable in nature. The transition is not unrealistic-it’s already underway
🤠
You are past the middle age crisis phase old man . Grow up quick friend .
Completely mislabeling RFK Jr. Awful take.
50% off
Not enough emphasis on KOOK🤪
I show women Scott’s off color jokes and I shit you not they like them more than men do.
